ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
As you are all aware ntl are reshuffling the analogue packs and have put a channel ntl presentation on some channels' downtime. The problem with this (and the letter received) is that there are *s indicating a channel not being available in all areas. The problem is that it doesn't tell you which areas. I have found a rather old channel lineup and notice Challenge and Sky Cinema are both listed as channel 12, I don't know if these timeshare or if Challenge is not available in my area. The letters were a missed opportunity as they could have given the regional details, but ntl didn't. This means it's hard to make an educated decision to decide which pack to go for. Even on the channe; ntl thing the woman says TCM is great for an old movie on a Sunday afternoon when it doesn't start broadcasting 'til 9pm
I'm in Renfrewshire (I think this comes under Glasgow for TV) if that helps :) Any advice appreciates, and if ntl could put this on their website it would be useful |

Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
Hi
There is information on the analogue channels available in each analogue area on our website, although it's possibly slightly tricky to find. Go here http://www.ntlhome.com/ntl_analoguetv/index.asp. On the right hand side, there is a link to check which channels are in your area. Put in your postcode and it will tell you. It won't do channel numbers or broadcast times though. Hope this helps! Cheers Sam |

- one comment about the channels advertised as available, is that several of them 'time share' - only plus/men & motors seems to indicate that? TCM not coming on till 2100 has already been mentioned. Discovery 'Home & Leisure' & Discovery swap at 1600 is another example. - that's a comment, not a complaint :) - but perhaps why the analogue base pack 'seemed' better than the digital one, I presume each of the channels 'available' on digital are discrete & not time shared? |
Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
Cheers for the link Sam, but
"Currently there are no channels available for this postcode. Enter a new postcode to view channels." Other than it not working I think broadcast times would be very useful. It is one of the major drawbacks of analogue and it seems a litle misleading not to mention it. Even something like, "Not all channels broadcast at all times on ntl's analogue TV service" would cover it. |

I have heard that there's an adapter available that u can add 2 digital STB to receive the analogue signal though. Any1 know if this works with current issue STB's? |

Cust services should be able to arrange for one to be fitted for you. |

And if so, can anyone confirm that it would work with a Di4000-N??? And just to make sure I've got the right end of the stick, this would be to allow viewing of channels 1-5 on analogue cable, right??? Cheers, Browneggsandham :) |

I think there is a box which allows analogue passthrough on 4000's, but I cannot say for sure, CS should be able to help you. |
Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
What exactly is this re-shuffle? Number changes or what?

I just want to clarify this though - is this to allow analogue cable pass-through or terrestrial analogue?? The reason I ask is because our house has no aerial socket, so an analogue cable pass-through would be perfect. Cheers, Browneggsandham :) |

Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
I was always told that analogue pass-through units are only available in Langley areas. They were never a feature of Bromley cable boxes, going back right to the days of CWC.
Might have changed thouhg... NTL are going for network parity, after all... |
Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
Well, I suppose we can only ring up and find out.
But please can someone tell me if it's analogue cable or terrestrial?? Cheers, Browneggsandham :) EDIT: just been answered :tu: |

for now afaik - a digital box can have an analogue pass through that doesn't need an external aerial. an analogue box can connect an external aerial such that the terrestrial channels the aerial can receive are 'merged' with the cable channel. either way it enables record, at least, 1-4 and watch cable at the same time. - analogue pass through, built into the box, or a 'widget' to enable it are an area based thing, though, CS in my area didn't know when I enquired? That doesn't mean you won't get an answer if you enquire, btw, :) |
Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
Yes, it's a Langley-only thing. So it'll work in Cleethorpes but not Hove.
I only know of one person who chose where to live based on the availability of ntl services... |
Re: ntl analogue TV - what channels, where and when?
To try to clear this all up a bit there are two basic ways of viewing/recording the off airs (BBC1, BBC2 etc.) on 1-5 on your TV :)
1. A bypass, these are fitted internally on some of the older Digi STBs and externally on the newer ones, afaik the analogue STB's are all external. (though I'm sure some one can probably prove me wrong ;) ) The bypass uses the analogue off airs provided by the cable company so an aerial is not needed. I've been assured that there are bypass's available for all Langley Digi STB variants with exception of the Samsungs (which don't count yet anyway) as I posted earlier. 2. An aerial Combiner, these are all fitted externally on Langley Digi STB's but internally on Bromley STB's and require you to have a serviceable aerial on your roof, top of TV etc. for you to get your off airs. They are also available for all Scientific Atlanta brand analogue STB's. Not sure about the GI analogue STBs. In short then; Langley digital, both bypasses and combiners available, no aerial needed. Bromley digital, no bypasses available so an aerial is needed. Analogue, bypasses and combiners available for SA STB's probably for the GI STBs as well. There may be some regional variations though and cust services should be able to give you an answer for your region. hth |
