Grammar question
Which is grammatically correct?
Roy regarding this contacted you. or You were contacted by Roy regarding this. |
Re: Grammar question
Roy regarding this contacted you.
|
Re: Grammar question
First one sounds stupid, so I presume that's the correct one!

Re: Grammar question
I think the first one would be correct if it had commas in it.
|
Re: Grammar question
What about "Regarding this, Roy contacted you."?
*EDIT* or "Roy contacted you regarding this." |
Re: Grammar question
The first one is correct but badly punctuated. It is a more Germanic form, but not 'wrong' for that. I voted for option two because the first one is wrong due to lack of commas.
|
Re: Grammar question
I *think* they are both okay, given the correct punctuation.
|
Re: Grammar question
Roy rang, call him back .... :D ;)

The first one should be punctuated as "Roy, regarding this, contacted you". The second should be punctuated as "You were contacted by Roy, regarding this", although it's more informal. |
Re: Grammar question
Personally I feel this forum could do with some more grammar tests on a regular basis..... :D

Re: Grammar question
It's interesting as Microsoft claim it is "Roy regarding this contacted you" without punctuation.
Is there a difference between our grammar and american grammar? Personally, I'd say "Roy contacted you, regarding this" |
Re: Grammar question
Yes there is.
Eats, shoots and leaves or Eats shoots and leaves highlights a number of them. THe book itself is not being re-edited for american grammer but left as is. |

Oo, the gloves are off now - I love it when all our pent-up frustration over bad spelling, grammar and punctuation starts to spill over. :D

And for the ÃÃâ€*’¼bergramm arians - would it have been better for me to have used a comma above, rather than a semicolon? |

Hey!! I come here to relax after a hard day in the classroom, not to face a discussion on WORK! :pp

Re: Grammar question
I chose, 'You were contacted by Roy regarding this'.
One thing bugs me though. I wonder what it was Roy contacted someone about? One thing's for sure. If he hadn't felt it necessary, we wouldn't have to give opinions on the correct way of writing about what he did. That Roy's got alot to answer for! :) |
Re: Grammar question
I guessed.
