The grammer test

wasnt a hard test really though was it? or is that just me boasting again and bucking the trend cos im 19 and should be useless according to all the news reports? ;)

While your English is not exactly perfect, you are still more grammatically correct than just about every American. Still, there is always room for improvement...

Colloquially, it was referring to your perceived comprehension and reaction to the evidently Colonial viewpoint iterated within the remit of the scource website.

Clearly this commences from a tanget viewpoint with regard to correct English. Consequently, in your circumstance, I would remain unconcerned.

By virtue of random - does that mean selected on a purely chance basis from a known base? Is sporadic a further complication of the odds, or is that a one off on this occasion? :erm:

it's done by this i think...........its slightly random to make it look difficult, certain words/sentences/comma's etc are already predetermened to look difficult, and confuse the subject. ;)

Umm - its slightly intended to offer alternatives to the correct choice by virtue of some extraneous options that may be selected by the lazy, unknowing, stupid, misguided or ignorant.

Its a bit like 'O' levels became in the 80's - if you don't know, have a guess - you still get some sort of grade - hey carry on and get a degree.

What on earth is the point of this test when it doesn't *tell* you the *right* answers??

I even tried it in IE to see if it was something to do with Netscape but it didn't make any difference except that I got a message asking me if I wanted to run "Clock Sync" on my computer!

Does "Grammar God" mean you got 100%? Or is it e.g. 80% to 100%? What level of wrong answers gives you Ba$$$$d?

And some of the questions are questionable in themselves.

For example the difference between "go boldly" and "boldly go" is only of interest to those who think that English should be like Classical Latin where you don't split infinitives, but English is *not* Classical Latin, despite the attempts of some people to force it into that mould, so it's pointless.

Splitting infinitives used to be a bad thing, but these days it is acceptable English to me. (And the Associated Press and Canadian Press)

I picked "boldly go." What can I say? I like Star Trek.

*groan* my philosophy a-level teacher used to have a thing about split infinitives... it became a joke between us.....he would correct my split infinitives in every essay......and when he had an essay he had given to us to mark (to see it's philosophical merit) i used to correct his...it became a bit of a joke between us.

but i agree with graham some of the questions were dubious...

a while ago i was helping my cousin (who was 10 at the time) with her english home work and she was doing similar to the questions in the quiz, but had the missing words at the top of the page; i was discusted to see that one of the sentences actually made no sense. The teacher was, supposed, to be teaching the kids good grammar and sentence building when she herself had made a sentence which made no sense :pp

And you should have had a question mark at the end of your sentence, shouldn't you? :).

Don't even bother starting on the rights and wrongs of starting a sentence with the word "and" either.
