Film Four Free Weekend

Just seen the ads, this weekend.

Having said that, just seen the listings and theres not much on. Mostly repeats of stuff I've seen many times.

If the last time is anything to go by, even though according to Film 4 the free weekend runs into the small hours of the morning, ntl will cut it off just after Midnight on the Sunday/Monday morning. Don't get yourself too engrossed in a film :(

Very subtle MGP, another approach would have been to ask the question will it happen? Some would have tried to help. Others of course would say get Sky.

You can get engrossed on Langley. I will also see what they can do for Bromley customers.

Hmm, sorry but last time Film Four did this, it did get cut off, just as it was starting, so I considered a warning appropriate. When I posted on NTHW.com about that, the concensous of opinion seemed to be "tough" it was free so don't complain!

Of course if there is a means to guarantee the freeview will be available for the entire period Film 4 intends, great, and thanks for any efforts that can be made :)

Since the loss of Film Four Extreme it's not been worth watching, the only film I'm looking forward to this weekend is Battle Royale but even that I've seen a few times on SciFi.
The Weekly channel has got to be the worst idea anyone has ever come out with, especially as it meant loosing Extreme and World.
I know the 10 and 12 slots are now Extreme and World fillms but its not the same.

What days/times constitute a free weekend - Saturday to Sunday I presume?

We subscribed to F4 for about 6 months as missus is into arty cinema and we thought it would be right up her street. How wrong we were. The schedules are just packed full of obscure rubbish. After discovering we just weren't watching it at all, we ditched it - only to discover that ntl kept piping into our home for about another 12 months free of charge anyway.

Eventually we got a letter from ntl saying they had spotted that the channel was available free by mistake, and it would now be removed but don't worry, you won't pay for it - which was just as well as we didn't even bother with it when it was free.

FilmFour - a great idea sadly drowning in mediocrity. Rant over.

We subscribe to Film4, and we have hardly watched it since they introduced Film Four weekly. My gf keeps telling me to ditch it, and I've managed to not do it, but I'm tempted.

I also feel that their redesign of the website from an excellent overview of the day's films to one where you have to check every channel separately hasn't helped much. I used to check their site (almost) daily. Now I never check it. Result: I don't even know what's on F4.

Thought you would also be interested to know that the following channels will also have a freeview this month:

National Geographic 2-9 April
Cartoon Network 12-19 April
NASN 5-11 April

Used this page and ntl:'s website: http://www.ntlhome.co.uk/ntl_tv/freetoview.html

I just watched "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", and near the end it seemed to jump backwards about 15 seconds. It happened when we see a dog find Everett's Dapper Dan pomade in his old cabin, followed by the sheriff going outside to arrest them.

I thought at first it was part of the film, but then it became obvious there was no reason for it! There's no mention of it on the imdb.

For my own sanity, can someone tell me if it was a weird Coen brother's thing, or did FilmFour mess up? Cheers!

... now off to watch Battle Royale - loving this freeview weekend :)

Yep very good film, hollywood will probably remake it like they did 'RING'.
Oh well the free weekend is over. Shame as that means I'll miss the film 'High Hopes'

We had Film Four when we originally got digital and lasted about 3 months before getting rid - there was hardly ever anything on that we hadnt already seen at least twice.

Having said that, I took the opportunity to record Dark Water on Friday night which we've wanted to see for a while :D

I've sometimes wondered whether part of the original intention behind FilmFour was so that the fledgling film studio of the same name would have an outlet onto the Digital TV platform, enabling them to make more money than they would get by selling DTV rights to the likes of Sky Movies.

Sadly, FilmFour (the studio) has more or less gone belly up because, so I heard, for every money-spinning Four Weddings or Notting Hill there were a handful of loss-making dead ducks. FilmFour (the studio) no longer has a permanent staff and Filmfour (the TV station) presumably benefits from fewer smash-hit British movie premieres than its inventors hoped for.
