censorship on tv

/rant on

ok im sick and tired of the censorship in this country with regards to television censorship

i sit down and watch a show in that show you may hear the world f**k or certain expletives way past the 9pm watershed but guess what its f'ing censored isnt it

ok so tonight we had some anti french comments due to the current climate guess what censored again

wtf is going on we live in a nanny state whats the point of censoring stuff like this past the watershed

/rant off

Steve H 21-06-2003 01:31

Yeah - I think some of the Censorship sucks.. I mean, They try and Edit it out, But it just makes it all the more obvious as to what was said. Anything after 9pm Should be allowed to be full frontal swearing/nudity :D/Anything else.. Its at the parants discretion if they allow there children to watch it then..

bopdude 21-06-2003 01:35

On the subject,

I think that it should be up to the individual or his \ her parent \ gaurdian to censor what is good or bad.

Also you cant tell me that todays kids dont know and use langauge, I have a boy of 10 and a girl of 6, I've told my lad in no uncertain terms that I know he knows the words but never to bring it home, so as for hearing it on the t.v. come on who's kidding who ?

kronas 21-06-2003 01:42

exactly its up to the the parents if youngsters are involved but remember we must think happy thoughts :spin:

I know what you mean, its like you're paying for the prog so why dont you get ALL the prog and if its not to your liking then YOU can CHOOSE to turn off \ over... key words being FREEDOM OF CHOICE

exactly i have written to sky about it as one of the shows is hosted on there channel and they said that most of it is edited from the states then they have to make sure that the program complies with itc standards

more BS

gary38 21-06-2003 02:37

i'm sick of tv and film censors telling adults what is right and wrong,i think as adults we should have the choice in what we watch and listen to after 9pm,and i'm 100% certain that must parents (my self included)know what our children should or should'nt whatch.

Martin 21-06-2003 03:06

I'm pretty much against any kind of censorship. If i want to hear someone swearing or not thats upto me. My belief is if you don't like it don't part take in it, in the case of TV don't watch it. People will sometimes sit through a film and then spend 20mins saying how bad the swearing was and it would have been good but for the swearing. I'm just a whatever kinda guy.

Hick 21-06-2003 03:10

I hate the way things are so censored in this country  How come only a double figure number of complaints can come in for a programme watched by millions and the regulator says "Yes, your right this is totally unacceptable to the British people" :afire:

kronas 21-06-2003 03:10

hick and martin (again) i agree with you common sense cant prevail to some though

bopdude 21-06-2003 03:11

What makes me *ahem * laugh *ahem*

Is that all these so called censors sit there and watch all the films in all there uncut glory ( gory ) and then decide that no no no, YOU cant watch it.

What makes them so special \ gifted \ wise \ as to know what we, the public want and are capable of watching.

Do they think we are all idiots ?

actually i want to be a censor so i can loosen the grip on censoring too much at the bbfc i think it is for movies but they have let some things go in a few films that might have been censored in the past

European Laws have been the only loosening brought about to film laws in the UK. Hardcore porn was illegal, but now due to European laws they have to be rated 18r. If it wasn't for other countries dragging us forward then we'd be stuck in the dark ages on some issues.

Granted that things are getting more relaxed, although it is slow going, but IMHO things are about 10 years behind in the censor board, in the real world can you honestly tell me that your kids or kids you know have not sat down to an 18 rated vid, not talking about porn either. I know mine have, I mean they have sat and watched with me, god my youngest used to laugh her head off at some stuff that 20 years ago I would have puked at..lol

I mean look how "childrens tv" has come on, death matches ( dragon ball z ) dan dare ( a fave of mine years back )

Anyway, my point is that the censors ARE way out of touch and could do with a bit of " kronas " where it hurts

Thank you for listening to the rants of bd :wavey:

np i hear ya if you think your kids are old enough wise enough to watch certain froms of 'entertainment' why not let them parental responsability is the key not this blanket censorship

IMHO it also " enlightens " them into the big bad world that they are growing up in, by that I dont me that they have cart blanc over what they watch, even I have some morals, but to shield them to much could do just as much harm, IMHO again.

That said it is getting a bad world to grow up in, makes you wonder about these " futuristic " films, how much of that is to close for comfort ?

carlingman 21-06-2003 05:02

I find the warning this program contains strong langauge from the start suitable enough and i can then make me own mind up whether or not to watch..

poolking 21-06-2003 09:18

What gets me is that they censor the f word but let other just as bad expletives go uncensored.

The joys of watching wwe on a Friday and Saturday night. :D

I absolutely agree. The censors are well out of touch. As a result we have far too much bad language, gratuitous violence and unnecessary sex. Give me a film or video with a decent storyline that's well acted, well filmed and well planned anytime.

If some of the films were of the calibre and style that we get from CSI on Channel 5 then more people would go to the cinema.

kink 21-06-2003 16:07

Did anyone see that documentary on Channel Four a few years ago on film and television censorship where they showed most of the clips and scenes that had been censored and unbroadcastable during the course of the programme?

They were slapped on the hands, face and given a right royal bol***king (i had to censor that myself... bad nthell ;) ) for it..... :D

Good old Channel Four.... i really can't believe they didn't know what they were doing at the time :D

Nothing to do with politics, just " them " being complete a****s, maybe they should bring out an new channel that doesn't have censorship and see how popular it is, sort of get the public's reaction and go from there

I beg to differ, it's *everything* to do with politics, or rather, votes.

If The Powers That Be dare to even *think* about relaxing the censorship rules in this country the right wing media and politicos will immediately leap up and down and scream that they're contributing to the moral decline of our Great Nation etc etc etc.

They will follow this up by claiming that anyone who agrees with this or votes for anyone who agrees with it is, therefore a corrupt deviant who is going to turn this last bastion of moral purity into a den of sleazy iniquity where our poor innocent little children will be unable to go out or even watch TV without being faced with a barrage of corruption and filth...

(There will then be a brief pause as they wipe the froth from their mouths...)

Unfortunately that won't happen because our Thought Police will come down on them like a ton of bricks and sieze all their methods of production, computer equipment, paperwork etc "to check it's not breaking the law" and by the time it gets returned the company would have gone bust.

Let's hear it for democratic freedoms....!

Cheers,
Graham.

kronas 21-06-2003 19:51

i dont think polictics plays its part its just about keeping things under control and letting everyone think happy thoughts :D :D :D :D

nanny state there is no democracy we just live under rules made FOR us

Makes me laugh watching the circus of WWE on sky - they bleep out what is obviously just the word 'arse' but you've got people in the audience holding up signs saying someone is full of c_r_a_p?!!
Is 'arse' more of a swear word in the states than it is here ?

yes though they even censored the word B_I_T_C_H even at 11pm

dd2k 22-06-2003 10:42

surley if they got of there ass's and investigated they would be able to find away that you could press a button on ya control to enable/disable censorship, and perhaps stick a pin code on it.

nice

zoombini 23-06-2003 14:39

As a parent I do not want my kids watching TV and hearing obsenities that they will then use themselves.

Neither do I have the ability to screen everything or make an-second loop so it can be bleeped out by me before they hear it.

9pm is early these days, older kids get to stay up much later, especially when a good film is on.
