Season 22-23

A little late what with the EFL starting last weekend but a shiny new thread to discuss the 22-23 season.

Will Newcastle crack the so called big six?

Will the race for the Premiership title be between Man City and Liverpool.

How will the sides do that got promoted to the Premiership?

Which one of Celtic and Rangers will be triumphant in Scotland?

Will Norwich bounce straight up again?

5 substitutes will change some games for sure plus the tweaks to the offside rule.

Taking the knee looks like it will be stopped.

On a personal note I'm looking forward to a trip to Forest - I think they'll do ok this season.

I think Arsenal will be a team to watch as they have bought well.

I'm off up to Tottenham on Saturday for my team's first game. :)

Matches used to finish at 4.40pm and you had 20 minutes to get to the car - but now half-time is so long it is not possible.

But Sport Report is a part of the match day.

Well if they don't get rid of the Glazers real soon and the endemic rotten player culture where players just stroll around the pitch seemingly without a care in the world for their club l would not rule out relegation.

No club is big enough to go down.

World Cup 2022: Alcohol sales banned at World Cup stadiums in Qatar

Alcohol will not be sold to fans at the World Cup's eight stadiums in Qatar after Fifa changed its policy two days before the start of the tournament.

Alcohol was set to be served "in select areas within stadiums", despite its sale being strictly controlled in the Muslim country.

Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol.

The World Cup starts on Sunday when Qatar play Ecuador.

Budweiser, a major sponsor of Fifa, is owned by beer maker AB InBev and had exclusive rights to sell beer at the World Cup.

"Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar's Fifa World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters," said a statement from world football's governing body.
So fans pay a fortune to get there, a fortune to stay in very over-priced accommodation, another fortune for tickets, and can't have a beer - sounds fun...

Seems an enormous expense , to get sunburnt, bored, disappointed and worst of all sober. If they haven't got drink, guess they could kick off a bit of trouble to pass the time.... They love a bit of that.

Agree 100%. The 2 bad decisions on this occasion didn't matter but if it had been 0-0 when first England didn't get the decision with the foul on Maguire then VAR awarding Iran a very dubious one then we'd be much more vexed, wouldn't we?

Didn’t see much time wasting in the second half of the England game, a brief stoppage for Maguire and all the subs couldn’t possibly have amounted to 10 minutes?

Re: Season 22-23

Incorrect Den, 14 minutes in 1st half of England game for keeper concussion, plus another 10 in 2nd half. There was 24 minutes extra time in total.

---------- Post added at 09:11 ---------- Previous post was at 09:01 ----------

According to Opta, the four single halves with the most stoppage time in a single World Cup match since records began in 1966 were all on Monday:

England v Iran first half (14:08 minutes)
England v Iran second half (13:08)
USA v Wales second half (10:34)
Senegal v Netherlands second half (10:03)
Unsurprisingly, all that added time led to some VERY late goals.

Mehdi Taremi's penalty for Iran against England came with 102:30 on the clock, the latest World Cup goal on record excluding extra time.

That was swiftly followed by the second latest, with Davy Klaassen's strike for the Netherlands coming after 98 minutes and 17 seconds

---------- Post added at 10:22 ---------- Previous post was at 09:11 ----------

Another slightly irksome innovation is the on screen graphics. I’m guessing they were written by the Yanks. I didn’t actually see any attempts on/off target but may have missed that. What I did see was an unusual Possession graphic and also a Total Receptions and Defensive Line Breaks graphics. Pointless stats from someone who has only watched NFL before.:o:

You're totally wrong and out of order! If the German fans are blaming the 'distraction ' of armbands on their teams failings they really are scraping the barrel!. The ONLY reason FIFA are making their stance is because they took the filthy lucre from the host nation are are now frightened of upsetting them! The world cup should NEVER of been awarded to a bigoted country in the first place by the very least they can do now is allow the players the freedom of speech!

Esp those who seem to think adding "!" after everything somehow makes them right.
Just because you dont agree that doesnt give you the right to rant at me in that manner.

It was pretty good, and Brazil deserved to win.

Yes but at least england sit on one knee for some reason and fuss about armbands.

Also keep bellend kane and other favourites in the team and boring southgate as manager and don't expect much else......

A simply awful performance from a manager who seems to leave his better players out of the team.

On the plus side it’s the first and may well be the only game at this World Cup to have registered not one single yellow card. Either a tribute to the fair play of both teams or possibly a lack of real commitment?

Watching the FA Cup on BBC atm, Alvechurch scored a fantastic free kick not long ago.

He has retired from the pitch but I believe he now has an important role ‘upstairs’.:D

No yellow or red cards was not good for my free bet builder.;)

Impressive win for England, after an indifferent start to the match.

Lets see if we can shine against the French on Saturday.

denphone 05-12-2022 07:55

Re: Season 22-23

Given the French are World Champions all the pressure is on them rather then England.

A Quarter Final spot was the minimum for England so any further is a bonus.
