I caught the red button on GOLD by accident last night (was intending to press 1) so had to wait for the on demand stuff to load not that it did had an error message

Maybe this is why we have now got truTV and after all these years it looks likely that Universal HD will be starting.

Apart from the Sony film channels, Spike and Your TV, what else is there to go for?

Edit: Could Sky Atlantic be back on the agenda?

If VM want to provide Sky Atlantic, I am sure there is a way to do so without breaking the bank. However, I think that this is most likely to be provided via the Now TV streaming app. This will have the added advantage of allowing subscribers to access the Sky premium channels more cheaply. VM make no money out of these anyway.

Ofcourse they make money out of them, they'd like you to think they don't but trust me they make a nice tidy profit out of them.

AIUI they never used to make any money out of them, so never really marketed them. They were only there as a convenience for customers and to compete with Sky via channel parity.

When the Sky basics returned after the dispute, part of the settlement was that the pricing structure for the movie channels would be changed to allow VM to make something from providing them in return for marketing them more aggressively.

Maybe things have changed, then. I remember distinctly that some years ago Virgin stated that they could not make a profit from these channels as Sky would not negotiate a wholesale price.

I agree virgin must be making some profit because why else would they have tried hard to persuade me to not cancel sky sports?

Times change. You may well have been right then and others right now. Only VM and Sky know for sure. ;)

The movies and sport were at one time indeed none profit but now VM do make a profit from them, not a huge margin but enough to keep them interested.

I think post #1474 is probably the explanation behind the confusion.

I imagine there is a sliding scale and kickback their percentage if they hit certain volumes.
