The negotiations between SKY and Virgin probably went something like this;

Sky: we have to shaft BT with this OFCOM thing
Virgin: yes, but how?
Sky: let them announce their pricing, then we'll up the wholesale cost
Virgin: great, as long as we get a good deal with the HD
Sky: about that. You have to stop saying HD is free with you lot
Virgin: we need to try and get more subscribers for our phone and broadband, so we bum up the TV side to make it look good
SKY: all we get from our subscribers is moans that you lot dont charge for HD, so why do we
Virgin: why dont you just get rid of the HD sub?
Sky: f**k off! its a sodding goldmine. We will never get rid of it.
Virgin: right, gives us a good deal for the premium HD stuff, and we'll charge for that, but you will have to buy our VMTV channels for a good price.
Sky: OK, we'll buy your channels and you start charging for HD. everyones a winner.
Sky: better still, make the charge "per box", that would be the ultimate mindf**k. Do that, and we'll throw in SS news HD when it launches
Virgin: great you've got yourselves a deal
Sky: (on the phone) hello....Mr Murdoch. We've got them to start charging for their HD, bought their channels, and we're all going to increase prices this year before we add in the VAT rise in January. happy days

I guess we'll just have to wait and see VM are bound to announce something by the end of the month.

there's nothing on Five worth watching tho lol :P

A few Eufa cup games and now and again a documentary about a kid with 5 arms and 2 heads, apart from that its a steaming pile of turd :P

I don't really see the logic in bundling the movies and hd sports channels together tbh, i wouldn't want the hd movie channels, i'd want the sports only, seems pointless to have to pay for movies if you don't want them.

Not fair for people with just $ky $ports - XL & VIP should get it included in the premium pack. Up to £40.50 is too much to pay for just $ky $ports with 2 HD channels :(

I'm curious, but would any Sky Premium HD charge include the forthcoming SSN HD?

I think on Sky, you would have to subscribe to the Sky Sports pack to get that channel, so I'm not sure if it would be defined as a 'basic' HD channel, on either Sky or Virgin.

Sorry, I don't get it... Are Sky charging you or Virgin Media..? If Virgin Media then surely they have agreed the price and so are to blame if you feel you may be charged too much ?

I just don't understand how Sky can be blamed for Virgin Media agreeing a deal..? If the deal wasn't good enough to VM then they shouldn't have signed it.

Am I alone in thinking Sky Sports News HD (when launched) is the biggest waste of an EPG slot going?!?

I admit to enjoying watching Soccer Saturday during the footy season but do I really want to see Stelling, Kammy, Le Tiss, Merson and worst of all Phil Thompson in glorious HD... I think not

On the flip side, there's always Georgie Thompson during the week :rolleyes:

My one complaint is that XL TV used to get a discount on the sky premiums, now all tiers pay the same (except for M), so not only have we lost out relative to the other tiers, we're also going to be expected to pay the same as them for HD variants? If what's being said is true then XL TV has been devalued by this deal.
