Re: [Merged] Snow!
No snow fall today, the roads are clear though the pavements are still icy. I went over to Brynmill Park to take some video http://bit.ly/DucksOnIce and some photos http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=bryn...=7944055%40N08

Re: [Merged] Snow!
I was just reading that article. Was thinking it would be cool to visit these places one winter and see how they coped.
Used to work in Denmark and Sweden and they never had any problems at all no matter how much snow there was |

I'm sure the UK would cope far better if this sort of thing was a more regular event. I'm told, by people who claim to know far more about these things than I do, that in Scandinavia the winter tyres have metal studs and cause a great deal of damage to the roads which have to be regularly resurfaced at great cost. |

Re: [Merged] Snow!
Things are getting serious here - the extremities of the house are frozen!
All the pipes in the (unheated) scullery are frozen, there's a suspicious puddle under the washer and the large radiator at the front of the house is stone cold. The pipes to it run along the front wall - just above the air bricks. I've given the pipe a wiggle and there seems to be a crackling noise so I guess that's frozen too. Our solitary 3kW fan heater is doing a poor job in the scullery at the moment. Just hope there aren't too many leaks when it's all unfrozen again. Fortunately, all our pipes are plastic so we may be lucky. It was below -16C in nearby Woodford on both the last two nights. |
