If Viera goes and Lunjberg follows suit then so could some of the other star players as well as I don't think you would retain the trophy without those two. You've never retained it yet when you have strengthened your team so when you lose players it will be ven harder. Wengers contract only has about a year to run and if alot of players have gone by then he could consider moving on as well. Something he himself has already stated. If you have the best youth team in Europe why didn't you win the FA Youth Cup last year ?? |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Hopefully the curse of the Charity/Community Shield will strike again.
BTW, does anyone remember what happened the last time Arsenal scored 3 past Man United in the charity shield? |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Ljungberg isn't going anywhere, Vieira well might, but there's so much media lunacy I really can't tell.

So don't look at who won it last year, look who won it about 3 years ago. I seem to recall a certain United side won it in 1992. |

Come on....he's got a point. Not sure about Bellion, he hasn't settled in yet but as for 'donkey' Diego Forlan......as much as I hate to agree with an Arse fan, they need to pack him back off to Uruguay NOW.

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
from the FA web site - past winners
1992 Manchester United Crystal Palace 6-3 1993 Leeds United Manchester United 4-1 1994 Arsenal Millwall 5-3 1995 Manchester United Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 aet Manchester United won 4-2 on pens 1996 Liverpool West Ham United 4-1 1997 Leeds United Crystal Palace 3-1 1998 Everton Blackburn Rovers 5-3 1999 West Ham United Coventry City 9-0 2000 Arsenal Coventry City 5-1 2001 Arsenal Blackburn Rovers 6-3 2002 Aston Villa Everton 4-2 2003 Manchester United Middlesbrough 3-1 2004 Middlesbrough Aston Villa 4-0 we have both won it twice.. no details on full sides though.. Wenger does seem to have a knack of signing young french players.. don't forget he used to work in the french youth school and managed Henry when he was at Monoca. If he hadn't worked with some of these players before and knew what he could do not sure if he would be as good if he didn't already have this inside knowledge.. thank God Fergie's Scottish.. can you image a team of Scottish players in the prem !!! |

As for Forlan he should go. The thing is he does have the ability look at his volley against Chelsea the other year.. Think if he went to Spain where he had more time on the ball and a less physical game then he could get 20 goals a season... mind you he should go for that haircut alone.. |
Re: [Merged] - Football talk
Apparently Fergie asked Forlan to look at Joe Jordan for inspiration, but, judging by his hair it seems like poor Diego got his Jordans mixed up.... :D

Re: [Merged] - Football talk
have been thinking about this the past few days.
When clubs get a foreign manager in the prem they go the country they are from as they know the players better and sign loads of players from there. When you get English or Scottish managers they go abroad and buy loads of players from there as well. That's why there are very few English players comming through at the moment. Even at youth level the clubs can now sign foreigners. Both United and Arsenal have youth teams that are littered with foreigners. I remember reading a few months ago that either UEFA or FIFA were going to try and bring in a law that limited the amount of foreigners but don't see anything happening. One of the reasons I hate the EU and Jean-Marc Bossman. It was that case that got rid of the foreigners rule and ruined the national leagues in all the European states. I remember the Lison Lions of 67.. 11 players all from Glasgow who took on the best Europe had to offer and one the European Cup for Celtic. Don't think that will ever happen again until the authorities step in and do something about the rules. I'd like to see something whereby clubs could have a squad of up to 25 or 30 players of which 70% had to be the clubs home nationality. That way you could still sign foreigners but would have to have a home grown core of English players. |
