Discovered a new one. I paid £10 for 4 passport photos with ID code (I remember when you got six, for six quid!) and submitted the code online - and the Passport Office rejected them! The damn booth said they passed checks, so WTF?

Call me paranoid and cynical, but is this an arrangement between Megroup and the Passport Office? The passport alone runs to £102!

However, I rang the number given - you get through to an answerphone. It directs you to help.megroup.uk, where you can get a refund. I'd bloody well better!

I'm thinking of a new computer desk . . once again nobody local has what I want 'in store'
I can order it and collect it from store tomorrow . . but they also want my name & address, phone number, and email address.

Hang on a minute . . it's being delivered to YOU for me to pick up from store.
If I go to the corner shop and 'collect' a loaf of bread, bottle of milk, and a mars bar they don't ask for all that info.

Just piss off with the data collection bollox

You need to get with the times, there is no issue giving someone your email address, just give them one you use for spam if it is an issue for you.

I really don't see the issue and if you're paranoid just give them the wrong mobile number.

Most of my stuff is bought online other than food stuff.

do you use a credit or debit card? you are right of course as long as the item is paid for you should only need the receipt to pick it up

I guess if there is a problem they would want to be able to contact you, the CC will also need an address to confirm it's your card I guess.

But . . if they had the bugger in the store, I'd just pay over the counter with my debit card, pick the box up and walk out, right?

If they're transferring the item from one of their other stores to this one, (which is what they intended to do), why do they need all my damn info instead of allowing me to walk in, pay, and collect the damn thing.

Because if something went wrong with the delivery to the store they would need to contact you, it's still an order even if you get it from the store. If you just walk into the store to buy they won't need address or email info, but some stores these days do ask for an email address for the receipt( I'm looking at you New look) but you can just ask for a paper receipt. Ultimately if giving someone your email address is your issue then just give them one of them that you don't consider to be a main address, I have atleast 4 I use for various things.

If you order online like most people do these days and then want to collect it in the store, obviously you would still need to provide an email address to prove you ordered it because they will send you the order number and there are boxes to tick to tell them not to do anything with your information, I really don't see the problem.

Trust nothing and believe no-one, they walk among us, one mans lie is another mans truth, walls (and lizards) have ears, and finally, if all men (oh, and women) were created equal, I'm just glad the pattern wasn't the mother-in-law

It's true I have failed in my feeble attempt to buy a new computer desk, so will continue to use the old one. I've saved a few quid, a shop/outlet/manufacturer has lost a few quid. I reckon I'm up on the deal ;)

As far as watching (crap) on the TV goes, if you watch it you watch it, no matter how or when or by which convoluted method is chosen.

Follow up to the 'buying online' fiasco.

Spent 10 minutes on the phone trying to get through to a human at the bank.
10 minutes of a recorded voice telling me which wonderful services they can offer me, and the apps & websites to use.
10 minutes of me repeating *a certain naughty phrase* while waiting . . I read something online the other day about people giving abuse to AI, not surprised in the least . .
Anyway, eventually reached a pleasant woman who couldn't sort me out today . . . because after confirming all the security crap she threw at me that tied me to the account, I still need to be contacted by posted letter containing a code I have to ring back* and pass on to them.

*quite obviously another frustrating 10 minutes of uttering spectacular swear words at an inanimate object . . . such is life.

It's not 'my own doings' at all.

It's not me that decided I have to jump through hoops to spend my own money.
It wasn't me that thought making financial transactions online was easier and more secure than carrying cash . . until it wasn't.
It's not me that put in place 14 levels of security to access my bank account, yet it still wasn't good enough for them to act on.

I still like a modicum of control on how I live my life, not how the machines and their masters want me to live.

That’s going well for you… ;)

Strange - I pay for things online quite frequently, using 2 Factor Authentication, and don’t have any of these issues.

I think I can see a common factor/theme in your shopping issues…

I think what is holding Carth back is the age of their bank account and lack of use in more modern ways. I would personally consider setting up a new modern account that will be app based from the off. The lack of proper contact details means the delay while waiting for the 2FA via mail

So, the GP surgery managed to fit me and our twins in for flu jabs next week after cancellations.

But today I was called and told that mine is being postponed for another 3 weeks, as they only have enough jabs until midday that day. And they can't request another batch until ALL the ones they have have been used.

The missus is still housebound, and the GP will not do a house call to give her a jab.

My GP called me last month out of the blue and arranged a home visit for the flu jab on the 21st Oct. I must be lucky (or just unlucky to be put forward for it).

My wife is getting hers done at work in Nov via her company.

It’s easy - just log on to your app, go to profile, and add/change telephone number - takes about 10-15 seconds…

Oh, wait… ;)

Problem with using your online account through a web interface is that they will want to send you a confirmation code to your phone number…

It was in reference to his point he was trying to put his phone number on to his bank account, as it wasn’t there, so it would be problematic getting an SMS…

There was never a need for it to be there, they still send letters (not emails) about any changes

. . . and how many times do you see it said "the bank will never ring you . . "

It’s for the security code they send you by SMS, so you can confirm it’s you on the bank’s website, so you don’t have to wait a week for the letter with it to arrive, then have to ring them and undergo the frustration you described previously…

I have seen that never. They say they will never ask certain details that could compromise the account if given the wrong people but of course they call you. If they suspect a fraudulent transaction what is the quickest way to find out? yes speak to the customer and how pray tell do they try to do that quickly? that is right they call you . I personally then say thank you very much hang up and call a known legit number for the bank and ask for clarification on what has happened but no they do not say they will never call you

Oh and you do not need to bank online to get your card spoofed it can happen at a cashpoint

We won’t ever ask you to:

- move money into another account
- tell us your Personal Security Number (PSN) for Telephone Banking
- share your log on details, like your password, user ID or memorable information
- tell us your card expiry date, PIN or one time passcode.

Yes, needing a verification/security code sent to the phone before you can buy anything online, which is why I now need to (not to be confused with want to) give them my phone number.

The link says a lot of things they will not ask which is what I said but shorter but the fraud dep. It is common practice for them to call for possible fraud unless they can report it through the app

My bank says they will call me for legitimate fraud checks, although I never pickup the phone if I don't know who's calling, I would expect my banking app to flag something but I've never been in a situation with anything dodgy as far as I know with my main bank and savings bank.

As papa says, "your bank may vary", which was for Carth - my post was in support of yours (sorry that wasn’t clear).

I rarely see dog poop on the paths these days, but a neighbour shares a fairly new pet hate with me now that we have several reusable bags and containers to put out for recycling.

It's dog owners who let their pets pee all over those containers when they are out on the pavement.

spray vinegar or diluted essential oils . Strong smells like that repel dogs
