Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
It's the last day of meterological summer.
A winter of fuel shortages , factory closures , debt, strikes hyper inflation awaits. And we have Dizzy Lizzy to look after us. Enjoy ! ( I did post this on the right thread didn't I ? ;) ) |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Just got back from a nice day trip to Burton upon Stather to help celebrate my brother and sister-in-law’s 55th Wedding Anniversary - weather kept dry, only 80 minutes drive each way, and it was great to see my nephews and niece’s families as well, as they live quite a distance away (Newmarket, Warrington, & Godalming).
I was up in Glasgow last weekend to celebrate my sister’s 70th Birthday, so saw the Glasgow branch of the family then. |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Had friends round for dinner, planning next year’s road trip.
After much discussion (and fizz and red wine), narrowed down to May 2023 and either San Francisco/Hawaii or Washington DC/East Coast (Virginia/North Carolina/South Carolina). Investigate tomorrow when less fuzzy… :D |

Better start saving now Hugh, May will soon be upon us if this year is anything to go by. :) |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Car insurance renewal has just come through. Usually have to ring up and haggle to get the same(ish) price as last year.
It was £350 last year, now its £190, exactly the same cover. Either the AA have cocked up or I'm now seen as extremely boring ! Will renew quick or should I still haggle ? :D |

We saved over £65 on our two cars’ insurance on the previous year. |

But insurance premiums are mysterious things. Mrs P and I both reduced our premiums by adding each other as named drivers to our policies. How does that work? |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My home contents with Tesco went down from over £6 to £4.50. New insurance rules seem to had benefited. I expected prices to rise due to no longer offing online deals but it appears renewals and standard quotes have matched the old online deal criteria. Bonus

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
We use Saga insurance and both our Car and Home policies were reduced. Not as much as Taff's 😥.
I did check with other insurance comparison sites but across the board they gave higher quotes so no incentive to move.. |

(Yes, insurance is weird. I've added myself to one sons insurance and lowered his premium. However if I'm added to my other sons insurance increases it for him !) |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I have 1 final payment of my 25 year mortgage left, so this time next month it'll all be paid off!
Unfortunately I won't really see any financial benefit as the mortgage was small(was all I could afford 25 years ago) so it's now all being eaten up from cost of living increases from Gas, Electricity and Food, but it's a nice feeling when I hit retirement in around 12 years I won't have to pay to keep a roof over my head other than the normal bills. |
