Another question for tomorrow, will there be extra recording capacity, ie in the cloud?

Have any Cable Forum staff be invited, as they could report back here?

I guess the main things we want to know are:

- When can existing customers start ordering it, and are self instals recommended?
- Are 2 TB versions available?
- What is the monthly cost and are there any one off charges, such an installation and/or connection fee?
- Will additional apps (eg Amazon) be appearing, and if so, when?
- What UHD content will be available? Will there be additional charges to access this?

I think we have worked out the answers to other questions for ourselves (eg it will have six tuners, the same UI, etc).

Indeed, there's only been the 1TB version mentioned thus far.

Has anybody with a V6 actually been charged anything for it or an ongoing extra monthly cost (I wasn't)?

Maybe customers will be upgraded to a 1TB for free, but have to pay for a 2TB box?

Guess we'll find out in the next couple of days :)

I wouldn't have minded a 2TB one, but won't be upgrading if it costs extra.

Where did you get that from? The invitation on my link above clearly stated that the arrival time was 8.30 and the start time was 9.15.

Crikey, and I thought the old Tivo was slow. :D

Ignitinonet suggested something about the boxes making more use of the cloud. So I surmise it could be 1Tb boxes with additional capacity in the cloud.

His post is worth reading:

Dudes, this STB has cloud storage, a cloud EPG, etc. It is basically a thin client with an MPEG decoder.

Will it impact on your broadband given it uses your Superhub to connect to the network? Probably not: VM have QoS working which will ensure that VoD from the v6 will have its own bandwidth. This capability is needed as part of the voice over cable project, which is nearly sorted.

What this STB will mean is that the reliability of the broadband network has be taken care of as this guy will require 2-way communication with VM to deliver TV services.

VM / Liberty have some busy times ahead, however there are a bunch of projects in progress towards this. The old modems and really old set tops should stop working soon as the kit they connect to is retired, and the newer kit is more reliable, delivers far higher bandwidths, and will be a way better solution.

Much higher upload capacity being delivered too, both through upgrades at headends and hubsites and some network rebuilds.

The engineer I spoke with said the current iteration of the V6 will not be cloud-based. Bit embarrassing for him as he'd been telling customers it would be...

Well we know how excited they were a few months back announcing 20.5.7 that was supposed to make the old Tivo comparable to Sky Q with a few extra pictures and with some other "improved feature" that well frankly escapes my mind right now but instead they somehow managed to unleash some huge dog of a performance clanger making many of our boxes next to unusable for months.

Wonder if V6 will be more successful than Sir Richard Bransons Brexit Block Campaign in the face of a Virgin Boycott:

Could be. I was told that when it's fully up and running, it will have much more functionality.

I think you're thinking of Series Link+.

I don't know where you got that one from! There is/was, no way the current VM Tivo was/is going to match Sky Q functionality. You just had to look at the US Tivo product line to figure that one out.

The V6, using the Tivo software, at a minimum, seems to be a combination of the software functionality of the Bolt plus the extra tuners and bigger hard drive of the Roamio. Hopefully there is even more functionality.

The US Premier (pretty much equivalent to VM Tivo, software functionality wise) is effectively a dead product.
