Re: Netflix/Streaming Services

Also, if you are using a smart DNS (around £2.80 p/m) for Netflix to get global Netflix access, you can get access to Hulu and CBS websites, which gives you access to pretty much all the current US network TV shows.

I cancelled pay TV a year ago and get the free M TV from VM and pay for Netflix, Amazon and Now TV and a smart dns and I find I'm well covered for what I want to watch.

I did plan to dip in and out of Now TV depending on what was on, but the 3 and 5 month passes can be had for £15 and £25, so currently using those, working out at £5 p/m for Now TV.

Just freeview channels on the M package mate it's really a sweetner to keep the tv service with them as each subscriber they keep keeps their numbers up.

Can you watch Now TV on your television, or do you have to watch it on a computer, tablet etc?

From the NowTV site :

Quote:

NOW TV Box, Chromecast, PS4™, PS3™, Xbox One, Xbox®360, Roku, YouView†, LG Smart TV, PC or Mac, Mobile*, Tablet and more
Most people use it with a box plugged into the TV be it a NowTV box which only costs a tenner, Chromecast etc.

Spot on.

I was going to cancel the TV side of VM and return my Tivo, and just keep BB and phone.

It turned out it was cheaper to keep the Tivo with M TV than to cancel TV and return the Tivo.

Does the cost of your broadband go up if you cancel your TV sub?

For those that kept Tivo with TV M do you still have to pay the Tivo fee?

I think the nexus player will do everything I want bar Amazon so might by a fire stick for the bedroom.

Some tvs have nowtv app on them, also youview boxes now have nowtv i believe.
You can just connect you pc to your tv via hdmi if you wish or get a nowtv box, roku which has nowtv apps on them.

I remember how hard they tried to keep me on their tv despite me constantly saying i cancelled my tv licence and only use on demand lol.

TBH I'm not sure. I priced up, via the website, the cost of Xl BB and XL phone on it's own and the price they gave me for that plus TV M and one of my existing Tivos was less. They applied a £5 discount for 6 months plus a £8 discount for eighteen months. This was February 2014.

I did get two Tivos when they first launched, so theoretically was on the £3 per account Tivo charge. Whether that was factored in, or the fact that I have been a cable customer for over fifteen years, I don't know. My second Tivo was returned to VM.

I'm pretty sure NowTV on Youview is Movies only, certainly this is the case with BT.

TalkTalk used to offer more NowTV services but it's now been cut back to just movies on demand. The retail boxes just offer the movies on demand as well.
