Re: [Merged] Snow!
Dunno how things are going to go.My husband was supposed to come home from hospital today but I can't see it happening if all the local news is right about stranded hospital staff overnight and having to stay on and work overtime to cover missing staff.Add to this that it's snowing again.
William has texted me to say he doesn't think they will let him out and not to try and visit.:( |
Re: [Merged] Snow!
I want to know what all tbe fuss is about. News reports says don't travel unless you have to, extreme severe weather warning for Surrey, blah blah blah. It stopped snowing at midnight with less than 2" on the ground. They were suggesting up to 16" was possible in some places. What an over-reaction. Last February was much much worse with a good 6-8".
Most people have made the effort to get to the office except the two bosses who can't get up their respective hills (despite their having 4 wheel drive cars). And in any case, surely when they say "don't travel unless you have to", work is a have to reason  What you shouldn't be doing is going on a sightseeing tour to see how bunged up things are. Of course if the authorities really don't want us to venture out, then they should be paying our lost earnings and compensating businesses. But if they had to pay such compensation maybe this country wouldn't grind to a halt in bad weather because there would be a reason for investment in gritters, de-icing trains and all the associated kit needed to keep the country moving. |

Re: [Merged] Snow!
Last time I saw snow like this was about 19 years ago. Had a load more come down last night and it is clouding over so it might start again here soon.

Re: [Merged] Snow!
My car is stuck in the car park next to our house, couldn't get it out today it slid further down the slope and my wife's car is stuck too.
At the moment the thermometer in the back garden is reading -6 so I guess our cars are not going to move tomorrow either. |
Re: [Merged] Snow!
I uderstand it's been quite bad over Bedford way, but it's still not too bad here in Potton.

Re: [Merged] Snow!
About 7" of snow here in West Berkshire overnight / today.
The boss closed the office (sensible decision) so we worked from home using our Citrix portal. We were still able to provide support to our customers - the only stuff that got canned was site visits but they can be re-scheduled. |

More than 15 inches of snow here in NW London maybe more... never seen so much snow in front of my eyes

Re: [Merged] Snow!
I still haven't been out to get the promised photos of all our ice (not so much snow here, but very, very cold) ... weather-related mishaps keep preventing me. Like being stuck behind a jack-knifed beer lorry on an ungritted road this morning. Took an extra hour to get home from the school run, what fun.
Still, some of the loch is now so frozen you can go walking on it, I may try to get a snap of that tomorrow if I can. |
