lol. Bloody clouds. It all fails if the internet goes down. This is supposed to be the future of business also, but your business stalls if the internet goes.

I'm sure the cloud certainly is the future however were a good few years off that time in my opinion , catchup simply won't replace people recording shows in the short term , as the article states rights issues is a massive stumbling block and many broadcasters currently don't offer any sort of catchup service meaning recording your favourite shows on those channels is essential for the time being , short term I'd much prefer bigger HDD's.

In a way it's counter-intuitive to say that the future for Virgin Media is with catch-up when it's flagship TiVo product is (rightly) lauded for the fact it has 3 tuners.

Catchup services are all very well but at present they only keep a week of programmes.

We manage alright with the 1TB box, we don't keep that many programmes more than a week probably about 250GB.

It lacks the flexibility of a pvr as well. I've only just recently finished watching a complete season of a show which I recorded January to March last year, 2012. That simply wouldn't be still available over a year later on a cloud based system.

Why do we need 4TB of space, I record everything in HD and have never gone above 50%, and I like to record HD films off Sky Movies and not delete afterwards so...
