samuelnw53 - the STB service has not been upgraded for 1.5Mb anywhere in the country, merely having a box swap out doesn't mean anything. |

My problem is that NTL are unaware that my area has not been upgraded and I cannot convince customer services that I haeven't been upgraded so therefore can't get any sensible advice from CS about when the upgrade will happen as they refuse to believe I haven't been done already  |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
All I want to know is when are the STB users going to be upgraded?
And to whoever stated I am paying £37.99 for the 1mb service I subscribed to yes I am however the 1mb service is no longer available and has been upgraded to 1.5mb so by rights I should be on that speed, if not then NTL should reduce the cost of the 1mb service and offer that at a lower price If I could go with any other cable company I would, Telewest managed to upgrade their network in a short period of time...NTL announced this 6 months or so ago and its still going on...Telewest announce it and bam within 2 weeks every area is upgraded. Although there are not any ADSL companies that offer 750 or 1.5mb services there are cetainly many that offer a lot faster. Bring on the day this shambles known as NTL ends up being bought out by a company that can actually run a proper service and listen to what their customers have to say instead of pretending to and then doing nothing about it. Just one question to anyone who works at NTL - why announce and upgrade you are nowhere near ready for? Just amazes me how our cable system is actually meant to be better than the one in the USA yet they can have their speeds up left right and centre no hassle, while us poor sods here can't even have that done without no end of trouble. |

One final word as I don't think I'll be coming back to this thread till the STB upgrade. On ADSL they'd charge me to upgrade my speed. On ntl that would be free. It's not universally greener on the other side. |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Orangebird how can the extra 500 be for free when there is no 1mb connection anymore, you cannot even sign up for that service - £37.99 gets you 1.5mb according to NTL - care to explain where this extra 500 for free is then? that would seem to suggest that it should be a 2mb service.
We might not be America but considering their cable networks are older and crapper than ours, seems strange they can have triple our speeds and more. And what makes you think NTL will never be bought out? can happen quite easily if someone wishes to invest or take over. Also I am aware the date given is October, but thats not a date thats simply a month of the year (although given NTLs track record they wont specify what year). Someone more sensible can you actually give a date? |

Damned if you do, damned if you don't  I'm sure there's plenty of people more sensible than me on here, but I'm damn sure they wouldn't be able to give you a date either..... :dunce: |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Ok if the 500 is for free, how come I don't get it? at the moment I am paying £37.99 for a 512k service then judging by your argument.
NTL will always be damned as they are biggest pile of crap to ever grace this country - never have I seen such a shambles of a company attempt to run a business, quick take your money but slow to give anything back. Well if £37.99 is the price for the 1.5mb service (and thats accorind to NTLs website) can someone please let me know the price for the 1mb service then that I am currently on as its still unfair that us on the STB service have to pay as much as those on a SACM who are on the higher speed. |

I pointed out the fact that the price of 1meg went up to £37.99 in June. You have a 1meg service, which you are paying £37.99 for. :) A little while after the price rise, ntl announced FREE upgrades to their BB services. They have also since announced that stb bb'ers won't get their FREE upgrade til October. What exactly is it you don't understand about that? Quote:

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
At the end of the day I don't know why they cannot say when in October, I have been told numerous times it will be the 1st only to find out on here that will not be happening. They managed to do that with the SACM using the postcode checker as it stated my area was done in August.
Even so the price went up to £37.99 they also announed the speed was going up and that for £37.99 you get 1.5mb. I don't have a 1.5mb service as of yet so therefore should not be paying that amount as you can no longer subscribe to a BB speed of 1mb. NTL are quick to shove up prices on the tv packages and make sure you end up paying that as soon as possible, yet they are not quick in giving out the refunds. Look at it from my point of view - no SACM constantly told can't have one, if I do have one (if they ever say I can, as different people tell me different things and I dont really want one!) all the direct debits have to be changed which is a ball ache to be honest - paying £37.99 like other people on the top tier of BB speed from NTL yet the majority are actually getting a faster service. At the end of the day regardless of the size of the network, Telewest did a wonderful job, and as usual NTL do the pants job. At this moment in time I believe the £150 plus a month that is currently paid to NTL can be given to some other nice companies who actually attempt to deliver a service aimed at the consumer And not arguing but I never did actually sign anything for BB, when it became available in the Manchester area I called up, it was added to the box I provisined the box, no terms or conditions were displayed and voila BB was mine. The only thing that was said to me on the phone was that it was a 12 month contract (which I am way way way past now) and I couldn't cancel without paying the extra months in that time. |
