Never going to happen.
Liverpool want it because they know they're the weakest of the top sides at the moment, but have massive overseas support. They'd gain by far the most out of it as they're the team that needs the biggest investment to compete.

All the other teams will laugh and them and tell them to jog on.

We need more even revenue distribution, not less. Football could learn a lot from the revenue models in US sports.

From Liverpool's point of view though, they are getting overtaken by teams like City and Chelsea who have buckets of cash. Meanwhile they are expected to share the revenue they bring in, due to their brand, from overseas rights to be shared equally amongst all the teams.

Manchester United and Liverpool are by far the biggest draws for that international audience after all yet they get the same amount as Blackpool did last season (not counting domestic tv income).

Liverpool's point of view is short sighted. They have the appeal they do because of the strength of the premier league. Break up collective bargaining and everyone except the top few clubs gets a lot weaker. The league gets a lot weaker, and eventually, the top teams get weaker because no one wants to watch a game where the winner is obvious. On their day anyone can beat anyone in the premier league. That's what gives it it's appeal.

That teams can do a Chelsea shows that we need greater financial control, not a free for all.

Well, for now. If it was actually on the table as an option I would expect them to take it, as I would expect Arsenal to take it. The only 'top' teams that wouldn't stand to gain is Man City because it's in their interest to limit the income of the other top clubs.

Barcelona aren't weaker because of the position they exploit in La Liga and nor are Real Madrid. It's not as simple as that. The rights sell well in places like Asia because of the United/Liverpool brand, not so much because the Premier League is the most competitive league in Europe (it isn't). If it was a case of a exciting league where teams are more balanced then Germany or France would be raking in the case. It's a range of factors that help the EPL, brand is a big one.

Wonder if he is worth taking if he misses the first three games?! I guess there is certainly enough room in the squad, and it will probably be reduced on appeal.

If England scrap through the first three games, then Rooney would be an advantage for knock out games, so I'd probably take him.

Then again, I'm not English, so maybe I'd leave him at home :D
