Not to be unnecessarily critical of the women’s game but often these attendances are inflated by free tickets.

That’s a world apart from tens of thousands of paying customers at £30-40 a ticket.

I'm fairly sure ITV have signed a deal for AEW by now so WWE can't reach out to them. What BT sport get with this is a ton of live tv and all the other shows as well which will fill out their channels throughout the day. For Sky sports yet more rights they've lost which is becoming a downward trend whilst their prices are trending up still....

Any news on Serie A rights in the UK? I hope premier sports don't keep it

In the UK WWE is Sport - in the US it is Sports Entertainment.

WWE is really struggling for an audiance at present - their last PPV could only attract an in-house audience of less than 6000 and it seems nearly half those were given tickets to make up the numbers. Areas of the area had screens put up to hide the empty seats.

AEW on the otherhand sold out their August PPV in 15 minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sky decided "this just isn't worth the money anymore". Raw and Smackdown are the flagship shows and those watching have a very good idea how each part will end up as they have no decent script writers.

It looks like ITV are the winner out of the last Pro Wrestling deals.

I think with WWE you get a ton of shows to fill your many channels. That was the benefit of having wwe.

- raw which you can repeat throughout the week
- smackdown
- main event
- specials
- weekly reviews
- catch up and on demand

Its a lot of programming and sky have lost an awful lot recently. Will they have enough stuff to fill up all their channels? The other good thing about wwe is it had no off season unlike majority of sky sports programming.

I'm not sure if ITV have landed gold with AEW. The ppv last night was a bit of a mess which i'm not sure will connect with the casual viewer. Also lots of empty seats at the AEW event even though they stated they had sold out. Bit concerning they couldnt fill up the arena for their second ever show. Think its a bit too early to big up AEW at this point

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I understand the current audiance for the live Monday night show in the US is just over 2million.

BBC/ITV would be disappointed with that in the UK for a live prime time show.

Too much programming - too little script variation.

Sport doesn't have script writers, hence wrestling should never be described as sport it should be entertainment

Not neccessarily. If the ratings don't work on fox then its likely to be moved to fox sports. Worldwide you can find it often being broadcast on sports channels. Not really a big deal though

With you poort script writing - you should get a job with WWE.

I wonder if the cost of PPVs on Sky being around £20 per month while you get the 24/7 WWE Network which includes them as well as a massive video archive all for £10 per month - has anything to do with the Sky/BT changeover.

Celtic games were certainly on Prem Sports - Irish connection I presume.

Shame ICC sold out to Sky. It would of had a far bigger impact if the whole world cup had been shown on free to air TV. The whole tournament has gone under the radar apart from the avid cricket fans.

And if popularity dips, subscriptions suffer. Hence a balance between free and pay tv needs to be achieved. Cricket is a prime example of how interest is falling off with everything behind a paywall.

The authorities of these major sports not just cricket need to start realising that as when these sports are shown on FTA they deliver much greater audiences and a much greater uptake of participation of the sport at grassroots level.

I remember the good old days home tests ruined by BBC showing tennis and racing during play, away test highlights only either at around 5pm or near midnight - in the days before Video Recorders became normal.

I seriously doubt any free-to-air channel would have devoted anything like the time sky did. I suspect the best you would have got would have been 30 mins highlights at a ridiculous time of day.

Give me sky any day. (Obviously if a free to air channel devoted the same coverage it would be better)

That's the reason the game of cricket is diminishing in this Country. About thirty years ago there were five cricket teams based in my local park there are now none and we had a local cricket league . I know this is only anecdotal evidence, but none the less it shows what happens.

They still make money on FTA, but not as much. However, if they put everything behind a paywall, interest in the game will diminish over time, as a result of which the number of subscriptions will decline.

They need to strike the right balance.

Maybe this is what's behind the latest sky newspaper advert which is stating "get the FULL sports action for only...."which is all the SkySports channels but at first reading leads you to believe it would include ALL sports channels not just the Sky ones.

I was trying to reduce my monthly payment, rang sky to see what they could do and was told currently you have to subscribe to BT sports direct, but this would be changing towards the end of the year.

Assuming you then pay via Sky there will be scope for sky reducing the cost to high-end tv packages and giving discounts.

I also have a minimum sub 2Tb HD box which I would want to retain as a recordable freesat box if I went the sky route - they admitted this was possible but wouldn't guarantee it.

I offered to have a 2nd dish -again they weren't keen on this. What I probably should have done was start a 2nd subscription in my wife's name thus ensuring either the lob was compatible with both or a 2nd dish was fitted - might have got a better discount as well?

In the end I rang Virgin to cancel, had to wait 30 mins on the phone to speak to someone who offered me a 12 month deal at a 25% discount.

Today I received a letter saying my sub was going up by £4.50 pm from 1st Sept, bit of a liberty - however I am presuming this won't happen as my deal starts 28th August.

l suspect we will have a very late eleventh hour agreement with some UK broadcaster which is likely to be somebody like ITV4 or Eurosport perhaps just before the season starts.

Good for the punters if it is not behind a paywall.

Why go behind a paywall as it was clearly a unmitigated disaster last time IMO.

Amazon join forces with BT Sport to allow their PL games to be shown in pubs

I know those of us with a prime subscription can watch the December games on the V6, but it appears that this new partnership will allow those of us wanting to participate in the amber nectar in pubs the opportunity to see the games there as well.

With there being no accepted broadcaster for La Liga yet, I wonder if BT and Amazon will unite and submit a joint tender for those games.

IMO sky have realised they didn't lose that many viewers by not having la Liga, as lets face it most are only interested in El classico. Eleven could not sustain its model at the price it paid. Now everyone is low balling la Liga and they don't like it.

If the match is also available in UHD I believe it will be filmed as such and down scaled to HD for mere mortals, thus giving a better picture.

Most of sky's football is filmed in HD only.

Additionally, the camera position is a big factor in PQ - Old Trafford is particularly poor in my opinion, whereas Rugby League is so much better as the cameras are lower and nearer than most football grounds.

That's exactly it , last year Sky Sports HD Premier League games looked vastly superior to the EFL games in HD.

Thankfully this year Sky is showing a lot of the EFL games in UHD so that should improve things for those viewing these games on the HD channel.

A member of staff at Sky has DM me via the sky forum to say the delay in getting this is due to Sky ensuring they can get BT Sport UHD. The plan is too hopefully launch BT Sport UHD along with Sky Sports UHD by August 1st

This same member of staff at Sky has told me Sky will announce today that BT Sports will be available for Sky customers to purchase directly from Sky tomorrow in time for the new Premier League season. I’m also led to believe BT Sport Ultimate will be part of the package but more likely to be this coming Autumn.

Hopefully the information I was give proves to be correct
