My mother-in-law moved to a residential care home just after Christmas, for a six week trial period. Her health has deteriorated over the last year, as she has been suffering from Alzheimer’s and Senile Dementia (mild, but noticeable - very poor short term memory, not taking care of herself, not eating properly, missing medication).

Happy to say she wants to stay there long-term - she has lots of company, the staff are very friendly, foods good, and this should give her a good few years more in better health (she’s 91 years old).

Update on this - we put her house on the market (3 bed detached bungalow), and the details were published yesterday morning on the internet; we had two viewings yesterday, and got an offer this morning (full asking price, no chain - the buyer has sold her house already to a new buyer).

That's quite a good start.

Heading to Rome next week for a much needed dose of culture, wine and pizza :)

Also fitting in a day trip to Pompeii, which is somewhere I've always wanted to go.

Nice Mr K as while you are over there try the Italian ice cream Gelato as well as my parents rave about it.

It'll be 5-6 hours of travel but what a memorable place it is.

What I do remember the most was the food (& coffee). Unbelievable. And the scenery ain't bad either (Rome, Amalfi, Pompeii, Positiano, and Sorrento). Enjoy your time there.

Nah, its 70 minute 150 mile train ride south to Naples, the Italians already have 'HS2'. Then a 30 min slower train to out to Pompeii. At least that's the theory....

Even better, I went by road, felt like it took forever. Still, had some good stop offs though, all part of the experience.

Just paid the gas bill for the winter quarter: Only £92 odd. Thanks to the mild weather. :)

My Niece has passed her theory driving test, and booked her test, but not telling us the date.

I have sat with her as she drove, and she drove like she had already passed her test.
