Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Socks with holes is different matter entirely, and has been known for many years.
At one stage of it's evolution there were master craftsmen (actually older women) who could, with the deft use of a needle and cotton (or wool), efficiently repair sock holes in a magical process called 'darning' Sadly this has long disappeared as a new pair of socks can now be bought for less than the price of a needle and cotton. |

The return bus didn't turn up, the second was 10 minutes late. And yet we are being told to "use public transport". And the Day Return ticket within the city has gone up from £3.50 to £5.00 |

Had an unexpected letter from my Credit Card company saying I've been late the last 2 months so this caused me alot of frustration because I knew it was wrong as I pay it the same time I get the notification, so this bloody automated letter is clueless.
So I did something I hate doing and that is phoning up just to confirm what was going on, well she said I was paying a day too early which was bollox it's their system that's wrong, something that has worked perfectly well for the last 20+ years so why now, maybe it's an AI generated letter! So from now on I'll either setup a direct debit or pay a few days later. |

Three have been calling me with my network stating possible scam, that's a good start. I had been ignoring it until I got curious this afternoon and answered. The lady offered me an email offer to extend my contract. I declined because it hikes up in April. My last renewal was a final offer from Three or my monthly charges will go up. I think I'll wait and see what they offer as a final attempt to get me on a new contract.
Spam scam call my arse. It was Three  |

During 2025 I sure got my monies worth out of the NHS and their emergency service. My local hospital doesn't have an A & E just a daytime urgent case service so Sod's Law kept doing it's thing. Every time I had a crisis it seemed to be out of hours and I would end up in a blue light ambulance into central Manchester with John following on in the car knowing that I would soon be sent back to my local Hospital where they knew what I needed and the quickest way to get there was by car. My MOAN .... Sod's Law firmly in place ..... late Boxing Day evening I knew I was in trouble and John had to dial 999 knowing that I needed to be admitted somewhere as I couldn't go direct to my local hospital" as "there's no A&E" I wish red tape could be bypassed but that's a whole different, and ongoing, massive moan. To add a happy note, I do carry a letter from my Consultant explaining what needs to happen so I saved some time in A&E by getting blood tests done while I waited for them to contact a member of my medical team. Within an hour John drove me to my own hospital where I was finally admitted and I immediately got my PRBCs blood/high dose intravenous immunoglobulin* transfusions and was allowed home next evening. *As it turned out to be a serious viral infection I may, hopefully, still be in my version of remission as my leukocytosis is dropping fast and my RBC is staying stable.🤞 :bigcry: Back in my bubble and, due to still being on high dose antibiotics, I couldn't toast the new year but had a strong Vimto over ice with a slice of lemon on the side. Tinky I hope you at least got to have something a little more potent.:D |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
I feel your pain Joglynne believe me, I have the added problem of transport Mr T doesn't drive. Also I have had 16 ambulance call outs this year. I am lucky to have acute care at home visiting 2 times a week plus district nurses calling also. PS I did manage alchohol free wine.

I've never had my windows cleaned from the outside. The weekend just gone by I cleaned the inside and saw the outside could do with a clean.
Why is it so difficult to find somebody who'll clean windows. Virtually everyone on Google maps is busy or no longer offer their services. Checkatrade yielded one positive response all booked in for Wednesday but I must have called 10-20 with no joy. Terrible :( |

One guy quoted £20  I thought £5 a window would be the reasonable cost for frames and glass but this one guy wants to do it virtually free  a tip goes without saying permitted the windows are given a good clean. Also that quote was a one off, scheduled cleans would be even cheaper :nutter:

It was a tenner when we first started using them. Paid by direct debit so no cash needed for payment. |

My Google pixel 6 pro keeps dropping incoming calls. I have to eject the SIM then reinsert it. It then works for some weeks then reoccurs. Anybody able to advise please, or do I need a new device?
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Have you tried it with an e-sim to see if that helps?
|
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Nope. I like to use physical sims.
I just tried Google support. They estimated a repair at £389  Ok. I replaced my physical SIM with a esim. Sadly the QR code doesn't want to show in Gmail on my main daily driver :( so I have to manually input the activation code. Hopefully this sorts the issue. |

Google pixel feature, wallpaper and style, after choosing a wallpaper choose effects..

The soft chocolate chip cookies I used to love finally got changed over by the new idiots that merged with freihophers..
IT STILL SAYS "ORIGINAL RECIPE" on the new boxs but THEY HAVE XANTHAM GUM and the original did not!! That garbage shouldnt be in food we eat. Its caused me alot of problems!! I left the company an email telling them what I think!! THE BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE EVER RUINED!! |

It is literally just a thickening agent used in many food products. Often in salad dressings and sauce to prevent them separating. Binding and stabilising many vegan products Produced by fermenting sugars with Xanthomonas campestris bacteria, it's a popular ingredient for improving texture and binding in low-carb and gluten-free recipes, |
Well for awhile they were still making the orginal Freihopher Chocolate Chip Cookies (Original) and they didnt have that crap in it..
No need for a thicking agent,it makes it taste worse!! Nesquik Chocolate Milk Powder used to have carreegen in it and thankfully they removed it and its delicious! |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Xanthine gum does not change the taste at all. Its literally made from fermented sugar. It is in so many foods and sauces.

Yes your right Stevie its hard!!!!
They put alot of garbage in our food that doesnt belong there!! Lactic Acid - They didnt ever put this crap in our food! MSG is back in alot of stuff...... Its sickening...... |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Quote:
MSG really isn't bad, many don't understand it so label it as bad. It is a really good and natural flavour enhancer, derived from glutamate acid and adds a savory, meaty "umami" taste to foods like soups, sauces, and meats. I use a pinch in stews, stir fries and Chinese fried chicken at home. MSG is also found naturally in Tomatoes, cheese and mushrooms. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Quote:
Lactic acid is a natural chemical your body produces from glucose, for energy. Monosodium glutamate, also known as sodium glutamate, is a sodium salt of glutamic acid. It is found naturally in some foods including tomatoes and cheese (in the glutamic acid form). |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Lactic Acid - A natural product of salt fermentation that is a preservative.
MSG - an amino acid found naturally in foods like tomatoes, cheese, and mushrooms. It is also a by-product of fermentation. |
Well stuff I have had that has LACTIC ACID has caused my throat to burn and not feel good!!!!
One day at a friends house we had mac and cheese that had Lactic Acid in it and hours later both of us had throat problems... From http://frogfind.com/read.php?a=http%...of-lactic-acid Quote:

Re: Moans and Pet Hates
It was likely not the lactic acid that caused your sore throat.
The levels in food will not do any harm. Your food would go off quicker if it or something else was not there. |
Re: Moans and Pet Hates
My daughter asked me to go online and try to get Harry Styles pre-sales tickets for Wembley on the 12th or 13th July 2026 (she is at work and in a meeting at this time).
The Pre-Sale (Amex) started at 11:00, and I joined the "waiting room" at 10:50 - it's now open, and I am currently 114,650th in the queue (I started off at 116,369 four minutes ago). I could be here for some time (or not very long if they sell out first...). |
I hope ya can make her happy Hugh :)

Having to pee just when you're doing something you'd much rather be doing! I can sympathise with Dumarest in #7, Technos: “And you could not sleep?” “No, sir.” “Why not? Did something wake you? A noise, perhaps?” “No, sir.” It was safe to lie. The whispering voice had been on the verge of sub-aural diminution and the officer could not know the state of his hearing ability. “I just woke and wanted to go to the toilet. That’s all, sir.” “Why?” Dumarest made a helpless gesture. He was an ignorant worker from Loame. How was he supposed to know what the officer was getting at? “You passed three ounces of urine - hardly enough to have made your visit imperative.” - yeah, I'd have said, "Sir, when you've got a bladder like mine, it bloody well becomes imperative!" |
