Re: Moans and Pet Hates

Socks with holes is different matter entirely, and has been known for many years.

At one stage of it's evolution there were master craftsmen (actually older women) who could, with the deft use of a needle and cotton (or wool), efficiently repair sock holes in a magical process called 'darning'

Sadly this has long disappeared as a new pair of socks can now be bought for less than the price of a needle and cotton.

It's already started to, they have brought out a new model that has 825GB instead of 1TB at the same price point. I think the PS6 is going to be a problem.

Cheer up, the price of board games has stabilised , any they don't need RAM, just dice.

Carth 09-12-2025 14:27

Re: Moans and Pet Hates

but . . . couldn't using a dice be classed as some kind of gambling?

In which case expect those games to be banned soon as harmful to children.

back to "I spy with my little eye" then . . oh wait, isn't that a slur against people with small eyes?

Dammit, no fun & games anymore :(

I am currently not in the market so I am not sad about it. My Dad however is about to have a new machine built and it will add to his costs substantially but he is loaded so it does not matter to him

Blimey I hadn't realised this at all. Mine for 32gb is now £380 odd. That's crazy. Hopefully the prices will crash again at some point, can't stay like this surely. I was thinking of adding another 32gb at some point, not now by any means.

I'm pretty sure you're repeating yourself but I can't be bothered to check ;)

The thing is, technology is already 'falling over' in some areas of concern, and I for one can only see things getting worse.

Doesn't help that one of the biggest 3 manufacturers of memory and storage(Crucial) has just announced it is pulling out of the consumer market. Storage and RAM has gotten ridiculous already. AI will end up causing a big market crash.

Personally I find self serve a lot quicker and easier. Age check I get.as most modern alcohol free stuff was made with it and later removed. So there is usually a very small percentage still, like 0.001%

The return bus didn't turn up, the second was 10 minutes late.

And yet we are being told to "use public transport".

And the Day Return ticket within the city has gone up from £3.50 to £5.00

Had an unexpected letter from my Credit Card company saying I've been late the last 2 months so this caused me alot of frustration because I knew it was wrong as I pay it the same time I get the notification, so this bloody automated letter is clueless.

So I did something I hate doing and that is phoning up just to confirm what was going on, well she said I was paying a day too early which was bollox it's their system that's wrong, something that has worked perfectly well for the last 20+ years so why now, maybe it's an AI generated letter! So from now on I'll either setup a direct debit or pay a few days later.

Hi sweetie. I ended up doing the same on Boxing day so I share your pain.

During 2025 I sure got my monies worth out of the NHS and their emergency service. My local hospital doesn't have an A & E just a daytime urgent case service so Sod's Law kept doing it's thing. Every time I had a crisis it seemed to be out of hours and I would end up in a blue light ambulance into central Manchester with John following on in the car knowing that I would soon be sent back to my local Hospital where they knew what I needed and the quickest way to get there was by car.

My MOAN .... Sod's Law firmly in place ..... late Boxing Day evening I knew I was in trouble and John had to dial 999 knowing that I needed to be admitted somewhere as I couldn't go direct to my local hospital" as "there's no A&E"

I wish red tape could be bypassed but that's a whole different, and ongoing, massive moan.

To add a happy note, I do carry a letter from my Consultant explaining what needs to happen so I saved some time in A&E by getting blood tests done while I waited for them to contact a member of my medical team. Within an hour John drove me to my own hospital where I was finally admitted and I immediately got my PRBCs blood/high dose intravenous immunoglobulin* transfusions and was allowed home next evening.
*As it turned out to be a serious viral infection I may, hopefully, still be in my version of remission as my leukocytosis is dropping fast and my RBC is staying stable.🤞

:bigcry:
Back in my bubble and, due to still being on high dose antibiotics, I couldn't toast the new year but had a strong Vimto over ice with a slice of lemon on the side.

Tinky I hope you at least got to have something a little more potent.:D

I've never had my windows cleaned from the outside. The weekend just gone by I cleaned the inside and saw the outside could do with a clean.

Why is it so difficult to find somebody who'll clean windows. Virtually everyone on Google maps is busy or no longer offer their services. Checkatrade yielded one positive response all booked in for Wednesday but I must have called 10-20 with no joy. Terrible :(

Funny you say that. I just got a few callbacks from earlier calls that weren't answered. One guy quoted £20  I thought £5 a window would be the reasonable cost for frames and glass but this one guy wants to do it virtually free  a tip goes without saying permitted the windows are given a good clean. Also that quote was a one off, scheduled cleans would be even cheaper :nutter:

Ours is £15 per month by bank transfer (and that’s for a 4-bed detached) - they use their own water from a van, with extending poles for the upstairs windows.

Almost the same here, £14 a month (only 3 bed detached) using a van with integral water tank and . . specially filtered water apparently.

Years ago it was a chap carrying a ladder, bucket, and mop . . on his pushbike :D

Nope. I like to use physical sims.

Ok. I replaced my physical SIM with a esim. Sadly the QR code doesn't want to show in Gmail on my main daily driver :( so I have to manually input the activation code. Hopefully this sorts the issue.
