Should have gone for the V6, bud. You Tube stutters and fails on the original TiVo, in my experience.

Is this a free upgrade as they phase out the V+?

Free upgrades if you have the older Scientific Atlanta V+.
The Samsung V+ is still a chargeable upgrade as it can still receive the HD channels after the end of the month.

It seems Virgin are also giving customers the chance to upgrade from the old Tivo to the V6 for free now too. My mum got a call last Tuesday saying she had been selected for a free upgrade. She accepted and the V6 arrived on the Thursday...I had to do the self-install mind you, she isn't the most tech savvy person in the world, but she's impressed with how quick it is. She even thinks the picture quality is better too.

Well if that's the case I will be cancelling everything today if I do not get the same offer!

You can only ask mate. Not sure why only some customers are selected and others aren't. My mum isn't on the most expensive package either:

Full TV
Sky Movies
100MB Broadband
Weekend Calls

I take it in the foreseeable future VM are not getting any new channels?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Maybe those with a SA V+ can get a free upgrade to a TiVo and then get a free upgrade to a V6!

Maybe they're upgrading existing TiVo customers to free up TiVo's to give to V+ customers??

An Asian channel war is predicted on Sky with the advent of a new Asian pack, new channels and conversions to HD. As advertising revenues decrease due to more competition and costs rise (apparently, it costs over a million quid to convert to HD), casualties are expected.

How this will affect VM remains to be seen:

You know what Richard, I phoned retentions today to see when my contract was up, unfortunately it isn't up till early October this year, so I enquired about being chosen for a free upgrade to a V6, and as I had anticipated, the girl said that the customers were chosen at random, to which I replied, so I've been a customer for 20 years or more and can miss out on a free upgrade given to someone on a lower package and a much lower service in terms of loyalty, and you guessed right, yes she said.
I find this totally disgusting from VM, if anybody deserves a free upgrade it's long term, high paying customers, their PR dept is a friggin joke!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

This was exactly the attitude of frontline staff when I wanted a V6 ie total and utter indifference, then when I cancelled in protest and said that I would take more business elsewhere too, she effectively just shrugged her shoulders.

I had to pull a few strings to get it sorted out, but I shouldn't have had to and not everyone is able to do this.

This is why I no longer do VM any favours and no longer take non commercial reasons into account when reviewing contracts as they expire. If they no longer appreciate and recognise customer loyalty, then I think that it should be withdrawn.

This attitude does seem to have developed since LG bought the company, in fact I was told at the weekend that complaints sent to the CEO are now simply shoved in with all the other complaints.

Other option is to hit them in the pocket and leave completely (if other services are available) best thing i did leaving virgin media no more throttling, youtube works perfectly, no more site blocks either and content i want to see.
For those who say i've gone to darkside or bts spokesperson you know who you are :p: i'm no longer with sky or bt am wrapping up my switch over to Origin for truly unrestricted broadband without traffic managing and none of this nonsense blocking torrents, a lot of torrents are perfectly leagal such as drm expired content, or videos new and upcoming artists want people to see for free etc.
