How has that footage been leaked. We see nothing of the sort over here unless it's taken by Joe public.

Front gardens, that are no longer front gardens, but paved to make space for several cars..... More flooding, no bumble bees, and climate change continues to spiral out of control.

Nice people with proper gardens should get a tax credit for carbon and water capture. :)

We are lucky as we have a longish driveway so have been able to do our bit for ecology by keeping our gardens.

My little moan .....We had to have our beloved Catalpa tree felled a few weeks ago  My Happy thought ......but we still have others including Cherry and Crabapple trees and a fair few shrubs and plants that attract lots of wildlife including several types of Birds, Bees, Butterflies and insects. Will not hold my breath on any plans for a tax credit being considered in my lifetime. :)

On a sad note the Sparrowhawk has been very active lately and our patio seems to be his personal dining table, RIP to Mr Pigeon this morning.

I was about to leave the local Lidl when I heard a loud squeal of brakes and a few car horns. I looked out of the window to see a tatty white car racing off after obviously ignoring the temporary traffic lights.

I walked to my car in the car park under the shop, and noticed a large white mark on the rear offside of my car. As I quickly inspected the damage, 2 women came over and told me that a woman in a white car had hit mine, got out to see what she had done, got back into her car, shot forward hitting it again, then drove off at a rapid pace.

Luckily, the white mess on my car was white emulsion paint! It washed-off easily, but there are several scrape marks in my car's bodywork. No cameras in the car park. :-(

Are you sure there's no cameras in the car park? My Lidl has 'parking eye' cameras to ensure you dont overstay. It should capture reg no's, whether you can get access to it is a different matter.

I asked the manager, and he said there were no cameras operating. Truth of bluff, I have no idea.

Printers whose cartridges cost more than they do.

I got a Canon Pixma TS705a for 40-odd quid. Sorted, I thought. But a week later the yellow cartridge ran out. I went to Ryman for a new one...and discovered they're 20-odd quid individually, so I "saved", if that's the right word, getting a multipack. Saved a trip, too, for when the cyan runs out (I think that was getting low, too).

£56.99.

More than the printer.

Oh, I see their fiendish plan - sell the hardware cheap, then sell the consumables for more, and that's where they make their money.

I miss the days of dot matrix printers. Noisy, yes - but they worked straight out of the box, connection was no trouble at all, and printer ribbons were cheap.

Compare that with the "improvements" of today!

Don't think I've ever bought an 'official ink' cartridge. My Epson printer accuses me of all sorts & warns of the world ending, when i install the much cheaper alternatives. I then tell it to shut up, and it then prints away, same quality, a quarter of the price.

The toner for my laser would cost more than double the price of the printer, high capacity toner each costs about the same as the printer. Since the supplied toner lasts years I am thinking of just replacing the printer. My old OKI took cheap (£50 a set) toner that worked fine but was needing new fuser and belt hence the HP multifuction, the scanner is great to get receipts to my work email.

My mental state since I lost my dog has plummeted. I am so depressed and there is no help . Those around me keep saying just get another dog or pull yourself out of it. This is making it all a million times worse because they make me just want to stay in and not have to hear it. People make it sound so easy. It isn't if it was no one would suffer

Way too soon to get another dog mate.
Staying in is probably best, but you need to do mundane things to take you're mind off the loss.
Watch TV, bake a cake, do a jigsaw, spring clean, decorate a room, anything that will stop the mind dwelling on the 'wrong' thing.

Time, as they say, is the great healer, easy to say but hard to get through.

Personally I think staying in is the worst thing you can do. Get out in the fresh air, walking , cycling , swimming. Any physical activity can lower stress/raise mood.Whatever ypu do dont spend all day on CF ;)

I think going for walks after losing a dog is likely to bring memories back of when you walked with the dog, which is why I suggested not doing so.

Last weekend I went to Krakow, and on the 17th we did a trip to Auschwitz-Berkenau.

It was a real emotional visit, and hard to believe that within 1 hour all non white men 16-45 where sent to the gas chamber and murdered.

I stood inside one and it was hard to believe that hundred of thousand where murdered here.

Depression is not a nice thing but please don't try and deal with it alone, go see your doctor he will prescribe some pills(this helped my friend get his life back on track again and hasn't messed him up).

Also don't discount getting another dog, obviously you miss your dog and it's very sad to lose a pet just like it is with a close relative, but seriously consider taking in a rescue dog, give it a happy home make that dogs life whole again, it's what your previous dog would have wanted.

Also don't lose track of your weight loss journey you have done what most people could never have done, don't knock it into reverse.

Private Dentists,!

Just got back from mine after having to sign-up after discussing the treatment plan, I'm shocked at the cost of a crown as never had one before, I also need a few complex fillings so that adds to the cost alot and this doesn't take into account the monthly plan I'm on.

But it is what it is after being kicked off my NHS dentist during the COVID period.

Any recommendations for an electric toothbrush?

I didn't have to do a plan but it gives me 10% off any work needed plus 2 free checkups as well as hygienists a year, so I'll see how it goes for a year and then decide whether to stay on the plan or not.

My Father died in his early 90's, and still had most of his teeth in decent condition at that age.

People thought him strange because he only used a regular toothbrush and tap water, none of this fancy rotating stuff and special formulated toothpaste garbage.

I'd guess diet also has a bearing on teeth condition too, can't ever recall him drinking any kind of fizzy pop.

No I mean when I know there is an update available not from my phone but from browsing online, so I go to System and update settings on the phone and and start the download and install there, it then takes an eternity before it's completely installed.

It was so much quicker when I had a Samsung phone, so on a Pixel it is very annoying especially if I have to leave to go to work or if I do it late at night because I need to remember to avoid that because of alarms needed and Android Auto.

Edit - it wasnt too bad this time but it still took the best part of 30mins.

I explained that I can't have the phone installing at night I use it for Alarms plus I need a full charge and don't want it plugged in when sleeping. :)

So I often do the update when I'm not in a rush and not at work but it still takes far too long and I'm left shouting at the phone....come on for god sake I've got work in 2hrs and the install bar still looks to be at 5% and hardly moving. Lol

I realise that the Tax system in the UK is complicated.

2 letters from HMRC. One says 24/25 I paid £26 too much tax which I can claim back. The other for 25/26 says they think I will owe £42, so they fiddle my income to get that back.

They could have just taxed my State Pension, but that would raise too many pensioners' hackles, I suspect.

No, it's just simpler to take it from another income source (such as Private Pension) and match the State Pension against the Personal Allowance, as it is more likely to be less (not in my case, so I get a K code against another of my Private Pensions (to balance it out)).

Ordered some Reebok Ridgerider 6 trainers this morning from Amazon for £38.91 which was a good reduction from the normal price and an Early Black Friday deal.

I've just checked again and the price is now £29 so I cancelled that order and reordered at £29. Even though the cancelled order is due for delivery on Thursday they're unable to cancel it so I have to either refuse delivery or return after delivery, so if I refuse delivery assuming I'm home how easy is it to get a refund? I think they are delivered from Amazon EU.

The "silent dump and dash" tactic used by some delivery companies has now spread to Royal Mail deliveries.

I went outside this morning to find a package on the open porch, in full view of passers-by. Contents value £160.

Then about an hour later, I found 5 large packages, total contents value £300, also just dumped on the porch, delivered 4 hours earlier than they said they would arrive.

I tested the doorbell, and it's working (and very loud).

Also, this past moth, we have had 2 packages dumped on the porch that were for an address in the next street.

They are just asking to be defrauded either by thieves or by the customer denying delivery occurred or theft after . My Recycling bin is right next to my front door . I have instruction in place to either put items in the bin or behind the bin essentially hiding them. How often do you think they do it? not very

While reading the latest posts in this thread, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a white van just pulling away (between myself and a neighbour).

I hadn't heard the 'letterbox' noise, a door knock or the doorbell, and have on a couple of occasions found stuff outside the front door so decided to check.

Yep, sitting there on the front doorstep . . in the rain . . was a parcel dropped by the usual foreign chap (had words before) in a dirty white van, that can't be bothered to let me know he's been.

It’s something that really became ubiquitous during covid, with good reason, but then carried on afterwards as a bit of a lazy habit. Royal Mail puts stuff in our designated safe place if we’re not in, and most Amazon drivers round here do, but the ones that don’t bother to ring the bell and at least see if we’re in are also the ones who just dump it on the doorstep.

About an hour after the first 5 packages arrived, but still before the time Royal Mail said they would be delivering, the doorbell rang.

It was our local walking postie. He was unable to put letters through our letterbox as the second batch of 5 packages had been silently delivered and were stacked blocking the letterbox.

He spotted that they were Royal Mail 24-hour service, so said I should contact the main office and demand an explanation.

I have found its easier to accept it, then just do a return.

So I just initiated a return as item wasn't needed and then a box popped up saying if I keep the item they will refund me £3.24ish which I've never seen before! Still returned the item though as the other price was far better.

I have occasionally gone to refund/return and they have refunded me and noted I dont need to return the item.
Usually on cheaper stuff where its just cheaper to refund me than pay for it to be returned to them.

I once had an email from Amazon noting that an item I had purchased at £n had reduced in price to £n-x within a certain period of purchase so they were crediting my account with the difference. I think this was linked to a sale price also.

Amazon used to have a price promise that if an item you"ve purchased , falls in price (and you notice/claim), they refund the difference. Don't think they do it anymore, obviously too many claims. But always worth asking anyway if you're a valued customer.

They used to do it with pre-ordered books, I think that still applies.

This city's "Integrated Transport System" has one again shown that it is, in fact, still a "DISintegrated Transport System".

Windows updates (again).

Gives you 2 options:-
Update and Shut Down
Update and Restart.

They both do the same thing, update and restart. The illusion of choice....

The former ends up with the PC off, the latter it reboots back on. :dunce:
