Those listed are mostly Dutch (NL) pirate stations, with a few such as Energy & Weekend Music Radio operating in Ireland. The UK pirates have all but abandoned AM. There are also a lot of pirates on SW if you have the equipment to get it & not too much local interference.

Yes I used to listen to shortwave alot....

I saw a thread listing 1 on 1530,can you hear anything of that one where you are?

Cannot hear any pirates where I am to the north of London. You really need to be on the east coast to hear any Dutch ones. Could possibly get Energy 1440 at night if it wasn’t for the nearby high power Lyca Radio signal on 1458 which tends to swamp everything on adjacent frequencies.

Wow on 1.458 and they splash out 1.44??

They must be really close...

I’m 5 miles away from the Brookmans Park site which Lyca operates at 125 kilowatts. They also now have a permit from OFCOM to use 14Khz audio bandwidth, which doesn’t help either.

Wow... I can see why!!!

Im curious at night do you ever hear AM stuff from eastern USA?? (Cape cod,etc)

1st BBC Radio 5 live AM closure announced. Folkestone to close on 31st July 2026.

Not enough room for another national network on the band. They could turf Radio 1 off of FM, but it would not be a popular move. The BBC have already upset Radio 3 listeners in Wales by replacing Radio 3 FM with Radio Wales at most of the FM sites.

I hadn’t spotted the announcement, but apparently Bexhill further along the coast closed at the end of March.
