I got an 8track today and a VHS tape in the mail I ordered...

1) 8TRACK: Santana - First album
2) VHS: The Time Machine (2002)

This is a special copy of this movie.. Its on the original analogue master! (And you hardily see any movies on VHS this new on its original analogue source)

Looks much better than the copy I had from DirecTV!!

Does anyone know how late they used analogue film?? -- I know all the saw movies were done on tape. (Except the last one)

Anyone know when they stopped using film as a standard?

Re: What Media did you last get??

That's a hard one to answer as there are still a number of movies every year shot on film. Certain directors use it a lot. Christopher Nolan shot, inception, Tenet and others on film. Wonder Woman and La La Land wee also shot on film.

But it doesn't hurt the film to be then mastered to digital as they have more control in terms of editing and mastering. Digital is just cleaner and by mastering or even scanning old 35mm film reels they get easily get a 4k or 8k high res master from them. Digital also protects the movie quality, as no matter how many copies are made it's quality stays the same.

Where as VHS and Betamax before that. Had a master tape of which a sub master was created and that sub master was used to make all the other VHS tapes. Then once the sub was worn out a new sub was created. So the quality of copies degrades over time. You don't get that from digital. Also colour correction and colour issues dint happen at all.

Ya that may be true but I dont like how it looks as much, doesnt look as natural..........

I dunno......

It looks as natural as they want. Digital can be manipulated and colour corrected easier than film. I remember how off some of my Star Wars VHS tapes colours were compared to my DVD and eventually Blu Ray discs. Even the Laser discs I have all have different colour tones.

This is a RENTAL TAPE so I was hopefull it wouldnt be ruined (Back to the future 2 and 3 are not ruined on thier official rental tapes (It looks like your watching over analogue cable))

Sadly its thin looking and not pleasant..... My copy from PPV is much better.. Im gonna try copying the movie to another tape in SLP mode and hope its better..... (Sometimes I can make them look better by doing that,I think it depends how they put it on the tape))
