Have you tried system info.

The biggest change is it uses a new VOD system. Hopefully no differences are apparent yet, but once everyone is on the new software, we'll be able to start introducing new features.

Apart from that, the main UI change is the introduction of "Series Link+", which blurs the line between recordings and VOD.

I then have to manually change these to 'Keep until I delete'.

Should my TiVo be doing this or is it a bug?

That's arguable. TiVo engineers would tell you it is operating as designed. Whatever, it will delete your recordings if it needs the space regardless of the settings.

Setting everything to KUID is not recommended. Use it only for the most important recordings, and leave the rest at default.

I'm sure this is a basic question and it's buried in a menu somewhere, but how do you check for last rebooted time on Tivo?

I don't know of a way you can do it from the UI. But you could ask me :)

I don't want to go back over old ground :), but if Tivo does the deleting to free up space, it deletes the oldest recording first. If my hard disc is getting full, I want to choose which recordings to delete. If my Tivo stops recording because the disc is full, that's my fault and responsibility.

VM/Tivo need to credit their users with a bit more intelligence than they seem to think we have ;)

Nothing wrong with setting automatic delete as the default, but make sure that KUID option does exactly what it says it does. Richard is suggesting that the new software may have affected the KUID functionality.

I still think KUID should be an option in the Recording Default's Setting; an option not the default. That would save people who like KUID having to go into every SL to change it.

Uh oh...i've always gone in and told it to KUID. It makes some future planned recordings grey out, is there anything else I should look out for?

And even if you do go into every SL and change it to KUID, it will ultimately ignore it if space gets tight.

I would rather it didn't record new things due to lack of space than delete old recordings.

New material is more likely to be repeated or be available via VOD than older programmes and there might be something that I've kept for archive purposes.

The old software didn't. it just stopped recording if the disc got full.

So we won't get the new picture based screens with the update, then? I was looking forward to that!

Yes, you do for VOD, as suggested, for Catchup and On Demand.

Ahh, thank you Robbo, now I understand!

Unfortunately it doesn't. It would more accurately be called "Keep until something more important comes along".

I'm not aware of any changes in this area. If you look on the VM Community forum, you'll find plenty of old complaints about KUID recordings being deleted.

Sorry, I forgot that that was quite an obvious difference :monkey:

But the 'importance' is decided by the user; that's the important thing ;)

I've not had any KUID recordings deleted. Was the problem solved for those experiencing the problem?

You haven't had any deleted because you manage the space yourself.

When it ran out of space it would sometimes delete many more recordings than it actually needed to, which caused most of those complaints. That is now fixed, but it will still delete individual recordings if necessary - and if you've set them all to KUID it can't prioritise.

That is not the case with me. When the hard disc was full it just stopped recording.

A few years ago I was in hospital for three months. When I got home, both
the Tivos that I had then, just stopped recording when full. All the shows recorded prior to that were still there.

KUID needs to do exactly what it says on the tin.

Re: Major TiVo update started about 3:20am.

Completely agree passingbat.

I find it laughable that a setting called 'Keep until I delete' does not do exactly that. Otherwise what is the point of it???

If anyone with any influence is reading this then lets get this 'feature' changed. I would much rather it stopped recording when full than to delete old shows that may not be on again for some time.

I don't know, VM do shoot themselves in the foot sometimes

I do think they listen, but sometimes to people who have views that are not shared by the majority of users.

Often at the expense of the majority too. I do think the VM community forum is a buffer zone to prevent VM being bothered by people who want to make suggestions and give feedback to make things better. If the moderators listened to those that matter, they wouldn't need to fob people off about the same issues and faults day in, day out.
