Are you all using the Sky Hub too?

I'm supposedly getting activated today so will be able to add to this discussion later. Maybe.

Sky's SR101 hub here. Never used to get the pattern at my old address using the same hub though, although I suspect the pattern would also be seen there now.

Nope, and I am using the Linksys E4200 running DDWRT connected straight to the OR modem

Obviously there is no impact on our connections but I would still like to know if it is caused by x or y on Sky's network or if its something to do with the route to TBB for example.

Its definitely unique to Sky and happens across both ECI and Huawei kit

Nope, dont have Sky TV

interestingly though, I used to have different patterns before my DLM profile change last week:

Before -

Day of change -

Ever since -

Re: Post Your Fibre Think Broadband Ping Graphs (Not VirginMedia Cable)

I'm stumped them considering Mick's post (you had to be different! :D) and yours Craig. I would have put it down to routing/a common hop if yours was not DLM related but instead a route change which increased your min latency to TBB.

This is gonna bug me now :(

Re: Post Your Fibre Think Broadband Ping Graphs (Not VirginMedia Cable)

Maybe its the internal firmware updates they are rolling out to resolve the "half speed" issue?

---------- Post added at 16:06 ---------- Previous post was at 16:02 ----------

To be honest, I didnt actually check whether DLM had changed my profile, but I have noticed my tracert's do show higher latency as well as the TBB monitor

Re: Post Your Fibre Think Broadband Ping Graphs (Not VirginMedia Cable)

So I went from this on BT:

http://mattlantis.net/bt.png

To this on Sky:

http://mattlantis.net/sky.png

Initial connection was via Sky Hub, then disconnection while setting up the 7800.

Much happier with latency in general, eg this to froschroom.com (QW server):

Spoiler:
Code:

Tracing route to froschroom.com [212.13.200.91]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  home.gateway.home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
  2    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  3    10 ms    7 ms    7 ms  ip-84-38-37-12.easynet.co.uk [84.38.37.12]
  4    10 ms    7 ms    7 ms  ip-84-38-37-223.easynet.co.uk [84.38.37.223]
  5    7 ms    7 ms    6 ms  linx-gw-a.jump.net.uk [195.66.224.34]
  6    6 ms    6 ms    6 ms  froschroom.com [212.13.200.91]

Where it was around 18-20ms on BT.

And this to BBC:
Spoiler:
Code:

Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.253.67]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  home.gateway.home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
  2    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  3    13 ms    7 ms    7 ms  ip-84-38-37-12.easynet.co.uk [84.38.37.12]
  4    7 ms    7 ms    7 ms  ip-84-38-37-21.easynet.co.uk [84.38.37.21]
  5    6 ms    6 ms    6 ms  ntl-ge2-9.prt0.rbsov.bbc.co.uk [212.58.238.189]
  6    *        *        *    Request timed out.
  7    8 ms    7 ms    7 ms  ae0.er01.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [132.185.254.93]
  8    8 ms    7 ms    7 ms  132.185.255.156
  9    8 ms    8 ms    8 ms  www-vip.cwwtf.bbc.co.uk [212.58.253.67]

Not seeing the spikes you guys are, could be because this graph is through f8lure.

is there a way to get sky FTTC without sky line rental?

Don't know for sure Chrys, but I'm sure I read somewhere you could retain the line rental with BT and still get Sky BB but I dont know if this applies to Fibre.

You thinking of dipping your toe in the dark side :)

Re: Post Your Fibre Think Broadband Ping Graphs (Not VirginMedia Cable)

I was told sky talk was a requirement to recieve sky broadband, fibre or otherwise.

Since I was looking to dump BT and sky talk was cheaper, accepting the deal was a no brainer. :)

Re: Post Your Fibre Think Broadband Ping Graphs (Not VirginMedia Cable)

Unplugged the Fibre modem by mistake last night, slightly higher latency when it reconnected and back on 94. range

[img]Download Failed (1)[/img]

Hope it negotiates its way back down although saying that, ping tests are still showing the same as before even with the TBB graph showing 1 or 2 ms increase.
