Of course, I do realise that both Virgin and Sky do this for a reason, namely that some channels simply wouldn't sell, so it's not going to happen.

You`ve got it in one. As for channels that won`t sell or don`t sell drop the them,( as Virgin I understand buys them or are they paid to take them these days? ) that`s what happens in all other trades.

It doesn't really happen in all other trades though. Most trades offer a product to the mass market and not individuals e.g. cars, tvs etc where the product is what they consider to be the best compromise.

What channels do you enjoy? The whole point of multi-channel tv is choice, take the bundled channel packages away and you'd have an awful lot less to choose from.

Ive just looked at the cast for "enemy of the state" and i saw jack black on it but when i looked it wasn't on the cast list according the virgins tivo box..so its not totally up to date.

Also why cant we have a tivo forum app on the tivo box it self where we can all talk nicely

Sorry you misunderstood my point "would not sell if not bundled with others" or words to that effect - If it would not sell get rid if it.

As to what I do not want & I stress this is my household only. ALL MUSIC channels . ESPN* ,EURO SPORT TCM current TV, Bio, Sky arts, Blighty, Eden. others which I can not recall the name of ! :D
As I said before the ones watched mean that we have to ( Ok don`t really have to) take XL package. *Santana was fine as it had Celtic league rugby on ( BBC Alba would be good for the same reason. Not sure if BBC 2 regions have games on - BBC Wales 2 does).

I wonder if the long tale effect can account for all these minor channels. Individually they don't have many viewers but add the audience figures up for all of them and there's probably a sizeable audience.

I didn't mind all the minor channels, but wish Virgin boxes had better ways to set up your favourites so you only saw the channels you wanted on your TV Guide. When I had my TiVo, I set up my favourites and would switch to them, but for some reason the box would always default back to showing all the channels.

That would be a good move the channels we watch are all over the place holding favorites would be great. add V+ style red button & reminders & Tivo would be good instead of getting " fed up with this " cry`s from her who must be obeyed :p:

How do you know you would be better off if you only received the channels you want? Whats not to say that VM lose customers by dropping channels meaning they need to recoup their returns from a smaller no. of customers?

Sorry, if they pay for channels that do not sell ie MAKE A LOSS how can they recoup the cost.
O` I get it I go to the supermarket pick up what I want. They add things I don`t want & charge me for them to cover the loss they make by having them of the one customer that does. What a great business plan. Tesco`s take note !!!:D

Not the same thing though. In pay tvs case we are all cross subsidising each other because more channels equal more customers which equals more deals for all customers.

Look at the difference between prices we pay on Sky and Virgin and what people have paid in the past for services that offer pick anf mix channels.

Sorry as I see it & your argument I would say supports it. It is exactly that.
In my case I doubt that most of the channels, need more subsiding than the rate I pay anyway .:) As I recall my costs have gone up since the lack of choice, but I am only looking a limit number of channels just across a number of packages.
