Both. Prefer iBooks but Kindle is pretty good. So far I've only bought one book from iBooks. The rest have been free downloads.

Good. Youtube is good and my videos that I've copied from the computer look great.

Nope. The wireless was a bit flaky to begin with but seems to have settled down now

Nope to the times app. The choice is a bit pants just now but the potential is amazing.

I really want one now, will have to sell some existing gadgets/tech in order to fund my purchase though!

Was going to pop out earlier to get one. Looked back through this thread then checked on the website. They want an extra £100 for 3G??? they won't be taking it from my wallet. Steve Jobs can go and do his jobbies on someone else.

I will be getting the wireless version as at present i just can't warrant being tied into another mobile contract and paying a monthly fee , can't see myself using the ipad away from a wifi connection anyway to be honest .

Should i ever see the need for it though i would get one of these :) , http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/bro...=consumerdeals

also saves a little money.

I also see little point in the 3G iPad because where would I use it where there is no Wi-Fi? It's not ideal to whip out in many places other than locations that should have Wi-Fi anyway. On the other hand it's not like you can just upgrade later...

I'm trying to resist the temptation, but a chum is off to the US at the end of next week, and the wifi 64GB version is $699, which converts to around £480, £120 cheaper than the UK pricing.

I'll have to think about it a bit more........

Make sure you know where you stand on the question of the warranty and recourse if the iPad breaks or becomes faulty is anyway.

also remember its $699 +TAX (about 6%) , also if he gets stopped at customs he will have to pay import duty ;) , mine is also coming from the US :)

I don't think he'll have to pay if he 1) has it opened or 2) wraps it up and claims it is a gift. Although since my experience of law is what we call 'non-existant' I would quote me on that. Also sales tax varies from state-to-state does it not? So look up the state he is visiting.

1. Yes he will if they (customs) can prove that it was bought while away and not in this country ie. if they find the reciept.

2. Gifts are only up to £390 if i remember rightly , so if the 'mate' buys anything else and doesn't declare it and then gets caught he's stuffed.

Ditto. I see no real point in paying an extra £100 for 3G plus whatever you then need to pay per month for actual 3G usage.

It's not something you're likely to carry everywhere with you like a mobile phone. Too big.

Although you could easily take it when travelling, the chances are that any hotel etc. you went to would have WiFi anyway.

The only other thing the 3G model has which the WiFi only model does not is GPS... but why bother with that on a device the size of the iPad? It's too big for using when out & about on foot (unlike an iPhone or other GPS enabled smartphone), & I don't think it's particularly ideal for in-car use.

He just needs to hide the receipt then! ;) :D

As it's now out in the UK, they can't just automatically assume "Ah! You have an iPad with you sir, you must have bought it in the US!", as he could have quite easily bought it here & then taken it to the US & back.

If it's unboxed, & has no receipt with it, it should be safe from HMRC I'd think...

I agree , just need to make sure it can't be tied to the holiday , i have a retired customs officer in the family , the amount of people that used to travel back from America with brand new golf clubs saying they had taken them out with them from the uk only to have the reciept found in their wallet :dozey: .

Back on topic , i believe the ipad plays video at 720p , i have aquired 'Avatar' in 720p in mkv format , how would i go about putting this on when i get my ipad? i have tried to import it to itunes but the options seem to be limited for video now ??
