You are correct sir!

You can get a STI without sex it is called a sexually transmitted disease because it is transmitted by sex but it is not the only method of doing so, only usually the most common. Expect for thrush.

Also a lot of them are not STI'S but are commonely labeled as such.

Mmmm thrush, oh happy days, blokes if you're gonna get something from sex, pray it's that :naughty:

Genital warts was the worst I had for treatment. The "oh **** that ****ing hurts" ointment chemically burns the skin. You walk like John Wayne for about a week!
The real arse of it was I got it from my lodger using my towel, not from sex.
All clear now tho.

doesnt that mean you have it for life and they keep re-appearing?

Another thing is that how doesn't that get passed on? we where told to watch out if they have warts but if they disappear via treatment then how do you know?

How do you know that your parents don't use your towels? (assuming they don't have their own bathroom).
Personally, I'd not use someone else's towel unless I knew it was fresh, but obviously some people aren't that considerate.

Warts can take several sessions of treatment, I had two, turns out I only needed one as the doctor mistook a neavus in the same area as a wart!

Gentital warts are caused by the low risk (low risk of cervical cancer) variants of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), this is the same virus that causes verrucas and normal warts so be careful of your towel on the floor of changing rooms!
Most people will catch HPV's throughout their lives and not know it, studies have shown that someone may have it one month, and a couple of months later be clear.
High-risk HPVs are not linked to cervical cancer.
The wart is an overgrowth of skin caused by certain types of HPV, it's not a fungis like some people seem to think.

Thrush is a fungis however, normally kept in check by bacteria in the woman, hence why some women get it when they've taken a course of anti-biotics.
There are many treatments for thrush, pessaries, oral tablets, and my favourite, creams :naughty:

Herpes re-appears, its not a HPV so totally different to warts.
Cold sores, genital herpes and chicken pox are all related.
The body is never able to get rid of these, they lay dormant, hence why people with chicken pox can later get shingles which is a reactivation of the virus.

Right, you have a friend round, you give them their own towel, they get it soaking wet and decide they need another one, so they grab one of the other towels, bingo, possible transmission.

Or you go to the local gym, work out, have a shower, in the changing room you dry yourself off but drop your towel, it pics up a HPV, you then carry on drying yourself, you happen to rub the virus over a broken bit of skin in your groin, hey presto.

<edit> if i was being 'picky' I would challenge whether thrush was a yeast or a mould, within the overall taxonomy of 'fungi' :)
