Are there any Belfast/Swansea or Ashford broadband people using set top boxes on 4mb yet or are they all using cable modems? like you (or someone from the admin side) asked NTL certain questions, this is one that certain customers need to know. so it may be months before I get this speed upgrade, after all I have been with NTL for about 10 years now as a customer and about 7 years with their internet, so I think it is only fair that they upgrade people like me at the same time, after all I have paid a lot of money to NTL, but not treated as a valued customer! Re: New Speeds - June 1st
I would like to know why NTL should find there is a problem with the 120 modems & the 4mb upgrade when my one worked perfectly on the 10mb speed. Or could it be more to the point of a greater proportion of users have the 120 & 100 modems & its a smoke screen to cover network problems that will arise from the 4mb upgrade?

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Here's a question. On 10meg I only ever got around 3-4 meg speed at best. I switched down to 2meg (in the thinking it was already 4meg) and now get around 1meg download speed. I am going to end up with roughly 2 meg when 4meg is introduced where I live?
It seems crazy as I would have expected that by switching down from 10 meg to 4meg, that I'd still get the 4meg I was getting while on 10meg. Does that make sense? But it seems that proportionally I am getting 50% of what the supposed speed is no matter what tier I am on. Can that be right? |

Cardiff, Swansea and Belfast do not have broadband through set top boxes, they are stand alone only areas.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Thanks fingy. This does not look good for us STB users then does it? I always wonder why certain areas get upgraded first and that shows why. I hope that this does not lead to troubles though. I believe that the Samsung STBs can go as fast as 6mb so it may not be a big prob for NTL.
I am in the merseyside area so does anyone know how i find out what NTL area that i am in? please don't say merseyside lol. |

Those do not indicate when tier upgrades are happening. They are 'business as usual' notifications only, so those people in the areas being worked on shouldn't hold their breath ;)

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
I was told two stories while on the phone the other day (surprise surprise) I was on the phone to retention firstly though so I guess that guy wouldn't be as in the know, he told me I should get 4mb now and he'd send a hit to my box (which promptly knocked off my connection completely)
I then had to call tech support for broadband and set about registering my PC again thanks to that. While talking to him I was told that I'd have 4mb by the end of the month as the work was ongoing throughout June. He made it sound like I'd definitely have to wait until the end of the month for it. I'm getting only 1mb speed today again which is great seeing as I can't even get 2mb speeds. |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
I think the 4meg upgrade has happened round here as my upto 10 meg service is now offering 2-5meg when prior to this it was 6-8meg.
utter dross and I suspect proves the theory that 20:1 contention is not being maintained. |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
I can't think of a time when I've ever had speed that resembles 2mb. Of course I'm not going to complain about them upgrading it to 4 for no extra charge but I don't feel I've ever had the benefit of the speeds they advertise.
|
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
if you assume only 50 4mbit users on a ubr then 20:1 would need 10mbit, thats excluding what you need on top for 1meggers and 10meggers.
worked that out quickly so if I am wrong someone will correct me :) |
