So are we supposed to have 10MB right now and the trial has ended? I recieved my NTL bill today and they have now changed the 3MB to 10MB on my bill. Gits have also added a £1 non direct-debit charge without any warning :(

Im in Stafford using a NTL 200 modem. Upgraded yesterday and these are my results :
Fri, 25 Nov 2005 22:06:22 UTC 1st 512K took 922 ms = 568642 KB/sec, approx 4686 Kbps, 4.58 Mbps 2nd 512K took 859 ms = 610347 KB/sec, approx 5029 Kbps, 4.91 Mbps 3rd 512K took 875 ms = 599186 KB/sec, approx 4937 Kbps, 4.82 Mbps 4th 512K took 875 ms = 599186 KB/sec, approx 4793 Kbps, 4.68 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 4861 Kbps, 4.75 Mbps Haven't got anything over 5mbps yet. No idea why.....Is the 200 modem ok to use with the upgrade ? Could it be something to do with my area and NTL not optimizing it for the 10mb yet ? Any info appreciated |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Hi.
I have done a search of this thread, but cannot find the answer to my question. I know there is a monthly limit of 75GB on 10Mb, but is there a daily limit (like there is on the other tiers 1GB) of how much you can download?:erm: ATB Ian |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
No daily limit applies.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I apologise in advance for not reading through all the previous pages to this topic but search isn't quite as specific as you need it to be sometimes and I need a relatively quick answer so I'm posting this before I go out. I know when the upgrades in the past were moving 1Mb upto 1.5Mb and then 3Mb were brought in they did it in phases gradually but you could phone up to have your speed upgraded before your area was scheduled and NTL would do that.
The question is pretty much along those lines, I'm on the 3Mb service right now and after rebooting the modem last night to make sure, I'm still only on 3Mb but I know there are members from one of the other thread posting from the Middlesbrough area and are on 10Mb now. If I phone NTL and ask to be upgraded to 10Mb now will it happen or is it different this time and you have to wait for your area to be upgraded? Thanks :) |

Currently on 3MB on Guildford UBR Tier Upgrade Website: No Joy. CS: Initially adamant that the was no 10MB Service then said not available yet outside of trial group and upgrades would start sometime in December. The CS computer system doesn't have the facility to upgrade people to 10MB  TS: Which didn't sound Uk based, Upgrades cannot happen until end of this year when they are automatic for everyone.:o: ---------- added 26-11-2005 at 11:50 ---------- Quote:

CS Attempt #2: Explained previous dialogue with CS & TS and said I wasn't happy that I was getting a straight story. Knowledgeable CSA explained that roll-out wasn't complete so I might not experience a full 10MBit/s service until post December but if I was happy with that caveat that they could upgrade my connection to 10MBit/s. They also commented that letters would be going out during December to those 3MBit/s ntl customers who would need hardware upgrades to get the full 10MBit/s service and that they would be supplied with replacement Cable Modems (Blue ntl 250's).

Must say Big Thumbs Up To NTL!!!!!
Ive been with them 2.5 years now and never had any problems! I called up Customer Care two days ago asked about the upgrade, got through to a very very helpful person named H****y she explained I may not get the full 10Meg which i was more than happy with, any speed increase was appreciated!! I got home that evening and started downloading from newsgroups at a mighty impressive 1200kB/s and uploaded at 60kB/s :) Very very impressed Im using a NTL 120 Modem in Hemel Hempstead btw :) I must say tho all the people givng NTL hassle when they get told its not available, give em a break, not every area is ready for the upgrade! some parts of the network in certain areas are more congested than others for example. Just go with the flow and you will get your upgrade when the network is ready!! |

to answer this
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...544#post638544 It wont be unusual to get worse perfromance to pre 10mbit because you are contended heavier now meaning max possible speed is higher but probably contention will also be higher. |

I just phoned CS. First time a woman said I couldn't even be let into my account (its in my mums name but I am registered on the account!) because I could not remember the password thing, but I could give every other bit of info.
The 2nd time (phoned back cos I was angry) a guy said there was no password on the account at all... anyway he checked and said my model (NTL 200) could not support the service and I had to wait. This was the closest I have ever been so I tried again... "One second let me check... Yes you should get the file in about an hour" 60 seconds later the modem resets and I am on 10mb! Manchester btw. Very nice :luv: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 08:57:27 GMT 1st 512K took 422 ms = 1242389 KB/sec, approx 10237 Kbps, 10 Mbps 2nd 512K took 437 ms = 1199744 KB/sec, approx 9886 Kbps, 9.65 Mbps 3rd 512K took 438 ms = 1197005 KB/sec, approx 9863 Kbps, 9.63 Mbps 4th 512K took 421 ms = 1245340 KB/sec, approx 9963 Kbps, 9.73 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 9987 Kbps, 9.75 Mbps http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/sp...3f5f7744dd10c2 |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
yeees.. we're in Manchester too (well, Stockport...) and we've gone through the mill.
The indian call centre - twice, the nice guy on the desk who put us through to a very closed customer services and well, we got so sick of calling we're just sitting and waiting for the 10mb shtuff now. We got close a couple of times, and other times it was like communicating with a brick wall.... so while NTl doesn't know whats happening and if it does it's only vaguely, I'd rather sit back, if you know what I mean... let it happen.. heck, I suppose I'm letting myself get too relaxed about it lol! Our speed at the moment is erratic and sometimes drops well below 2mb (and we're on 3mb). At present, it's holding slightly steady. But I wonder how many people have said "10 mb connection" and on the other end of the phone, they've misheard it as "2 mb connection"... Like the gravy, the plot thickens.. One day, they'll have an idea... for now... :bsmack: |

Phoned CS 4 times today to try and get an engineer visit to swap my Ambit 100 to a 250.
1st try : Got thru to an Indian helpdisk. No help at all. Refused to send a guy at out and was intent on working from his set of questions. 2nd try : Got thru to a nice chap (Mr Y)who ran a test on my modem while I was @ work. He confirmed the ubr I am on is fine, but modem logs were not looking good, so he asked me to run some funky test which would have me mucking around with the co-axial cable. I agreed to ring him back when I got in from work and was ready. 3rd try : Got thru to some chap (Mr X). I asked to speak to Mr Y but he told me his line was busy and if he could help. At this point. I decided to hang up. 4th try : Got thru to Mr Very Helpful. I asked to speak to My Y (who was still engaged) so I decided to take Mr Very Helpful up on his offer. I explained the situation and was shocked by what he said. "So what would you like from me sir"... errmm An enginner ?.. and a new 250 modem... "does 12 till 6 on Thrusday suit you ?... :D Proof that different people give you different results.... which is a shame. I will have to book Thrusday of work, (only after I have rang CS to confirm the engineer visit).. I have read to many horror stories of people missing work for a no-show. Hurry up Thrusday. :D (ps... I realsie that this is a test of the new service and everyone and his dog is probably downloading like jackrabbits but my Speeds have once again dropped BELOW 2mbit levels, web page browsing is painfully slow, FTP speeds all over the shop once again etc.
COme the 5th Dec (my One month period) Ill give them a call and go back to 2mbit I think, it was def faster overall then the 10mbit ever was - or will the 2mbit service now also be slow as hell as more people have 10mbit? |

Hi
Just upgraded to 10Mb from 2Mb. Done it online via tiermigration page. Modem rebooted and hey presto I'm on 10Mb. :D Well 5Mb actually, according to the speed test results :- Downstream 5179 Kbps (647.4 KB/sec) 5593 Kbps (inc. overheads) Upstream 493 Kbps (61.6 KB/sec) 532 Kbps (inc. overheads) By the way I'm in the WS15, Staffordshire area, with an ntl:250 modem going through a Linksys router with 2 PC's connected, 1 wired, 1 wireless. Anyone else in Staffordshire upgraded to 10Mb? ATB Ian PS. Just tried downloading a file and the connection is variying wildly from 600Kbs to 9500Kbs. Not steady at all. Lets hope that this will improve over the next few weeks. |

Am I on a 10 Meg service ?
Hi, Have been upgraded to a 10 meg service using a NTL 120 Modem. On running a speed test (Robin Walkers) I am getting the following results : 1st 128K took 100 ms = 1310720 Bytes/sec = approx 10905 kbits/sec 2nd 128K took 120 ms = 1092267 Bytes/sec = approx 9088 kbits/sec 3rd 128K took 140 ms = 936229 Bytes/sec = approx 7789 kbits/sec 4th 128K took 120 ms = 1092267 Bytes/sec = approx 9088 kbits/sec This averages to 9217.5 kbits/sec. To me that mean I am getting a 10 Meg service. The reason I am confused was because I was only expecting a maximum of 5 Meg download service from a NTL 120 modem. Am I missing something ? I am in Nottingham. Thanks Perm |

I didn't get it. Wonder if its because I have a Samsung STB? Hope we don't have the same 'STB wait' we had last time.
|
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I thought I was the only one who didn't receive the card, I'm also stupid enough to have DTV, and receive BB through an STB, we will probably have to wait months as we did in the previous two upgrades (the 1.5MB upgrade I received my samsung in June and had to wait until November to get 1.5MB), people who pay less by not having DTV, and receive their BB through a SACM always are upgraded first, well worth £1000+ per year for the past 3 years, and analog/dialup before that for 3 years, all I can say is if the 75GB cap is enforced I will be of to adsl/ Sky (with a more realistic cap), which I put off for the hassle of switching companys, canceling and setting up DD's.
|
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Samsung STB 3mb here as well and no card, looks like a pattern, guess we will be last yet again :(
|
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
You will probably find with the pace of the competition in the broadband market that Ntl will ditch the caps next year or will increase them to a more competitive level, this would make sense to keep up with other providers that will be receiving tv etc by broadband. There is also the fact that they have dropped the price of the top tier to the same level as telewest & as they both come under the same umbrella now an equalisation of prices/packages would seem logical too

Do you think they got misbalanced routers AGAIN? |

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I have 2 mbit on a Samsung,i phoned them earlier to upgrade to the 3mbit.The guy told me i could not have 3mbit because my Samsung can`t do 10mbit.I said so the reason is because it is so close to the 10mbit launch i can`t have the 3mbit?I don`t think he new what he was doing,i said about the 10mbit page on the net,and mentioned monday the fifth, the line went quiet.I said so basically i will have to wait until monday and order 10mbit and i will then get a SACM,he said yes.
It seemed to me that i was telling him.The guys above with Samsungs will probaly be the last to get it. |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Paul on this websites speedtest and the adsl guide one i get maximum of 5.6meg tried all different times.
At parents house they have Ambit 100 as well getting roughly same figures as mine. i wonder with all the work that has gone in Leicester in the past 6 weeks whether still bit more catching up to bring network up to standard. I've noticed we seem to have been singled out for work every week night for 6 weeks so obviously has been quite a bit wrong compared to other areas. |

I don't think the ntl 100 will run at full speed even with a firmware upgrade - I'm sure our original information was that it won't. |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I got the 7mb figure from Robin Walkers test but I have since read the one on this site is better to test the connection and just tried again 5.8meg. Do you think I will see any increase once the official launch has taken place ?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
The news item on the front page says we will get a price reduction from January
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/...rice-reduction Is this correct, as the card just says "early in 2006"? |
