Neither company will make it look like they backed down and will both likely say they won.

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
I see Dave HD and Gold HD are now in the Mix package - does that mean there's no longer a need for Gold SD to be carried on the platform?
It's an interesting development as it could signify a strategy-change away from putting HD channels in Full House. Time will tell. |

Well VM took a big risk but by getting 5x times the on demand content plus GOLD HD and DAVE HD on Mix I think most people (including me who was seriously cosidering moving elsewhere) that VM have played this well.
It might show other broadcasters that VM are no pushover. |

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
"Cable customers lost five free-to-air channels - Dave, Drama, Really and Yesterday - as well as the paid-for services Gold, Alibi, Eden, Good Food and W.
A Virgin Media spokesman said the paid-for channels, which took longer to restore for "technical reasons", would reappear over the next few days. The new agreement increases the number of catch-up hours available, with customers on the top-tier Full House plan gaining access to "significantly more" boxsets, the company said. It also adds access to HD versions of Dave and Gold for customers on the cheaper Virgin Mix plans" https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45154707 |

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
Everything seems to be up and running my end. Why are they saying everything will be back monday? Seems everything is back already! Great news though. Classic Eastenders is on UKTV. Accompany that with classic coronation street on itv 3 and you have a wonderful combination of historic quality television. Much better than the dross both shows have these days

I wonder whether UKTV will show some catch ups for episodes missed for new TV series like Harrow. Episode 1 was recorded and episodes 2 and 3 were missed. Episode 4 is showing on Sunday but the Series Link has yet to decide to record it.

Anyone who got a discount for the loss of these channels are quids in. Or will there be another twist? Do they take the discount back.

To be fair I did for some time, even after I moved off net, and I only left when they closed their off net ADSL service. If I moved back to a cabled area I’d rejoin in a flash. They’re worth it for the fast internet alone, quite apart from whatever TV they carry. |

Looks like Dave SD and Gold SD will be disappearing, leaving only the HD versions. Which will be odd for those on Player, who seem to be getting Dave Ja Vu but not the non timeshift channel as a result..

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
Seems it all worked out in the end. Glad to see all the parties came to their senses.
Was looking like VM had scored a bit of an own goal and now they come out of it smelling of roses. Wonder how much these deals to keep customers happy has cost them though? Like Mr K and others this has worked out pretty well for me personally. I was on the Full House package with Sky Sports. Upgraded to VIP and saved myself £10 per month. Got a £50 credit to boot. Now got my UKTV channels back. Just need VM to get Premier Sports incorporated into the VIP bundle and if they can add Sky Atlantic while they're at it.............. |
Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
I'm glad we didn't fork out for another way to view these channels. :)

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
UKTV channels have adverts ?
If so I would imagine their advertisers told them to get the viewers back or they would reduce what they pay for advertising. |

I posted in this thread about how I was all but called a liar when I said that I would be losing programmes that I was in the middle of recording and how I was falsely told that all UKTV programming from the missing channels were available for free via the UKTV VOD app. It took me four times to get it to sink in that the programming from the pay channels was not available on this app. ---------- Post added at 21:59 ---------- Previous post was at 21:55 ---------- Quote:

Even those that haven't can still view the +1 SD channels where they exist, albeit an hour later! The offer of a free V6 was the carrot and the gradual loss of channels will be the stick to get people to upgrade. |

I didn't ask for compensation either simply because I very rarely find anything on these channels worth watching (either because of the nature of the content or because I saw it originally on the Beeb). So I wasn't inconvenienced sither. I dare say you will always get some who will jump on the bandwagon when even one obscure channel they never watch goes missing, helping to put up prices for the rest of us. |

So I do have an eye for the best deal, but I would not claim compensation if I did not suffer a loss. That is just plain dishonest. That's my opinion. |

And that's the thing, Gold is one of my most watched channels. I just love things like Dinnerladies, Men Behaving Badly, The Royle Family amongst many others and I just didn't bother ringing up for a compensation because of the same reason of it being dishonest simply because for everything I like is on Netflix and I also have them on DVD. For the person saying about petrol and getting the best deal, I use Shell V Power which is probably the most expensive. |

Anybody know best way to try and see episodes 2 and 3 of Harrow on Alibi? Managed to see episode 1 before the loss of UKTV and now its back can record/see episode 4 onwards, so have lost 2 episodes we would like to see? Checked on demand and catchup a few days ago and couldn't find anything so are there any alternatives?

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
Catch up and On Demand content will have to come from UKTV. VM can't conjure it up themselves.

Re: Virgin Media & UKTV+ITV Channels
Set up bookmarks for episodes 2 and 3 and they will appear in My Shows when they become available in Catch Up / On Demand.

When I called I simply asked what the situation was with regard to cancelling.Given that I had just signed a new contract .With a great discount. Without saying anything else £10 per month extra discount for 18 months was offered . Are you saying l should offer to increase my payment ? |

Bit perplexed by those moaning about people trying to get the best deal and calling them 'dishonest'. Will they call VM dishonest if the next impending price is higher than inflation, as they have been in the last few years ?! Think it's more to do with folks being peeved they didn't take the opportunity to get a good deal when VM were at a weak point. Don't worry VM will be clawing it back soon ! |
