Nope SKY and BT are the bad guys i hope Fox do buy sky tbh.

Yep, there are huge differences between the UK assets controlled by John Malone at the time of the LG/VM takeover and what Murdoch stands to control assuming this deal goes through - which it seems all but certain to do.

Fox News will be on Virgin one way or another in the coming years.

LG don't operate newspapers or a network of radio stations and didn't acquire control of a major TV news channel in their take over of VM. There is genuine concern over the Murdoch empire's control of the media.

You're meaning, I think, that you reckon Sky News will be converted into "fair and balanced" "news".

I hope NOT.

By all means have Fox News on VM, I'd welcome that, but Sky News shouldn't be changed into Fox News UK.

But still they have the monopoly over cable.
But yeah i can see what you mean given what pies Murdoch has his fingers in there is indeed a concern over his monopoly in media.

Eurosport 4k when launched will be included in the XL pack.

They have a monopoly over their own infrastructure which has been funded by VM and its predecessors rather than by the taxpayer. A monopoly which is becoming less significant as other companies build their own fibre optic infrastructure.

So SKY was funded by taxpayers then?
I know BTs network was i remember back when the big players were Mercury telecoms, BT and cable and wireless.

Not at all, Sky doesn't even own the satellites, they use space on the SES Astra fleet. BT, however, is another matter, originally being publicly owned as a part of the GPO.

Indeed.

As mentioned previously, the concern with the Sky takeover is the Murdoch empire's control of and influence over the media. Bearing in mind the reasons for the fate of the Murdoch controlled newspaper "News of The World", the concerns are well founded.

I agree and think it's unlikely, certainly in the short term. However, News Corporation pledged safeguards for the autonomy of Sky News in the event of a successful takeover. I don't recall seeing anything of the sort from 21st Century Fox.

I would not think that any safeguards offered by Murdoch would be worth the paper they were (n't) written on. Sky/Murdoch/News Corp are far too powerful already & need to be stopped.

It is disappointing that VM haven't pursued Wurl TV yet - this would be a further indication that it was taking its TV content deficiencies more seriously.

Surely, for VM this should be a no brainer. There are no affiliate fees or upfront costs for cable operators to carry any channels offered through the Wurl Network, and these channels are not currently available on Sky.

Wurl’s TV Channel Line-Up looks like this:

Streaming News Network – 24-hour news covering domestic and international news, politics, sports, entertainment, business and tech. Streaming News Network brings together content from many of the world’s top digital news producers.

The Sports Feed – Wurl’s 24-hour sports news, covering teams, players and scores in all major sports from around the world.

The Alt Channel – Millennial-targeted programming covering a wide range of topics and interests from leading digital media producers.

Baeble Music TV –The inside scoop on bands, artists and music. Exclusive Concerts, Sessions and Interviews give you a front row seat to some of the best music and bands of today. Mumford & Sons, Bloc Party, Chvrches and hundreds more.

Popcornflix – a 24-hour movie channel, produced in partnership with Screen Media, the largest independent distributor of motion pictures to the TV industry. Popcornflix features popular movies for all age groups, from major studios and independent producers, covering all genres including family, kids, comedy, horror and documentary.

This would indeed be a good addition to vms line up, the only tv service i've heard coming to vm v6 boxes only was pluto tv but that rumour seems to have gone quiet for now.

I agree - like him or loathe him, Rupert should be allowed to have control of the company he founded.

He deserves credit for transforming the TV industry in this country - without him, I dare say we would have been a five channel country for at least another decade.

If you feel strongly about it one way or the other you have a small window of opportunity to express your love or hate for the man: 30 March.

However, as the result is a foregone conclusion, I wouldn't waste my time if I were you.

Now, what's coming soon to Virgin Media TV? Any more Virgin exclusives, anyone?....

........ changing the subject but just to note I think we have a first this weekend.

3 premier League games are being shown via the XL/Full house pack this weekend. 2 on BT and 1 on Mix.

With the 42 BT games and Mix having shown 5 games so far and 3 more confirmed to come (and maybe more in May) that's a minimum of 50 this season via XL.

Apparently, all Motors TV feeds are now in HD.

I wonder what's happening with this channel on VM, they haven't even changed it to the new name, let alone started to broadcast it in HD. They must be downscaling an HD feed to put it out in SD

On Sky, the new owners failed to tell Sky that they were going HD, so it's looking like mid April after the compulsory off EPG tests are complete.

Perhaps they failed to tell VM too, so this is what's causing these problems??

Maybe the new owners aren't familiar with running TV channels and are just expected things to fall into place. I guess they are on a learning curve.

That's what I was thinking. You'd think that they'd have taken advice from the former owners or hired a consultant.

None of the satellite scanning sites are yet reporting an HD feed appearing on any of the Astra birds at 28E. There are 3 (encrypted) HD varients up on Eutelsat carrrying the service for mainland Europe, but they have been around since last year.

Looks like a selection of E! programming will be on channel 100 from 6am to 01:23am on Sunday 26/3/17.

The programmes are Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Summer House, Revenge Body With Khloe Kardashian, The Real Housewives of Sydney and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Not sure which packs this will benefit.

-That’s Surrey

The last time I checked That's TV didn't have any active entries in the Network Information Table of any region. Not even for the supposed tests of "That's Solent". So, basically, it isn't being carried on VM.

One suspects its a temporary offer for a short period Vince as remember nothing is for free at the end of the day.

In all seriousness, maybe it will appear in Wrexham when comes it online as part of Project Lightening - I'm guessing that's quite some way off yet though.

With all the money being thrown into these channels, that hardly anyone actually watches, perhaps they have acquired sufficient funding to expand the cable network into North Wales. :p:

Then again, they could just be joining the Fox News Channel on one of VM's internal networks, never to be seen by regular viewers...

I'm guessing the press office at Made Television are just duplicating the content of press releases issued for existing regions, without realising that cable hasn't yet reached North Wales.

I don't know the actual arrangement but would have thought that the That's TV channels would be carried if there was a 'must carry' status.

True, also if it was free carriage they would all be on VM.

I can't imagine that these channels have a lot of money, so it must be relatively cheap though.

As I understand it, Comux handles the distribution of all local tv stations, so if some are carried on VM and others aren't, I would assume that final decision rests with the local tv company or, more likely, its parent company.

Did you have to phone to start it or did the channels automatically come on? If they automatically came on and they then try to charge you for not cancelling, I think they'd be on dodgy ground.

If it's one of those free trials where you have to phone up to start it and are worried that you'll forget, why not cancel at the same time ;). That's what I did when I got a free upgrade to the Family Pack years ago.

I think that these promotions work on the idea that people won't cancel due to forgetfulness or inertia as much as showcasing what's on offer to tempt customers to subscribe.

I'd be very surprised if Sky wasn't behind and funding this initiative. The take up of Sky Moves is very low on VM.

think they might surprise me but putting my VIP bill of £150PLUS back to the equivalent top package cost without me incurring a new contract?

I am hoping to move house sometime in the next year but incase the house we find is in a non vm area I will not sign a new contract which I was told I would need to.

How come you are paying £150+, the VIP package is £120?

Do you have extra boxes/services?

no extra - just two boxes as in the package one V+ and one VHD. I know it is only £120 now which is why I rang retentions in the first place. Seems I am being penalized for being on the VIP package from the beginning. Not to mention they had never informed me the price was now lower. If I hadn't look at the package out of curiosity...

It would certainly be worth calling back after the 30th once the new bundles and broadband speeds are available - I'd be surprised if there isn't a new VIP bundle.

I was on the old VIP until recently - I found out I was being charged £11.50 per multiroom box instead of £7.50 because I had a V+HD box and a Tivo. I've now swapped the V+HD box for a 500GB Tivo, signed a new contract and managed to keep my Loyalty Discount going which was sweet.

Giving them a call and talking to them definitely helps.

I thought they recently improved the VIP bundle to include 2 V6s, or is there something else on the horizon, Ben? Are you able to share anything?

They did - but it currently comes with VIVID 200 as the top tier broadband (VIVID 200 Gamer is a 'bolt on').

Usually VIP is the top of everything available at the time you take it out - from next week VIVID 300 is the top broadband tier.

I do want to be clear though, that I don't know for definite it'll be changed. It is also possible that VIP will stay with VIVID 200 for now, with VIVID 300 a paid upgrade where available, as VIVID 300 isn't yet available everywhere.

Ah yes, that is the rub.

Even if you were paying the best VIP but had 2 x TiVo, just changing them to the V6 would be a new contract.

I did hear about VIVID 300 coming soon. I assumed it was a bolt-on too and didn't expect VIP customers to be bumped up. Maybe that will come further along the line, but definitely wasn't expecting it now.

For any family household that watches a lot of different things, has lots of devices on WIFI, the VIP package is definitely worth having.

It's probably more to do with the amount of devices people have connected. You don't really realise until you have a new router and start changing passwords on everything :-). To go with the devices, with the increase of 4K streaming via Netflix and Amazon etc, it will also help to keep things running smoothly.

If you've just been moved to VIP you should have been offered 2 x V6 boxes - although there would have been a one off £49.95 to do this on top of the £14.95 activation fee.

That doesn't hugely surprise me.

Friends of ours who are massively into their DVDs, but otherwise in no position to pay Sky subscriptions, mentioned the other day they've got a 6month offer on Sky Cinema but will not be keeping it beyond then.

I guess ongoing problems with the HD-On Demand library can't be helping.
