Be interesting to see who sacks who, his length of contract doesn't fill me with optimism

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

My opinions on both.

Jurgen Klopp, wonderful for Liverpool, not so wonderful if they persist with this transfer committee lark. Absolutely pointless appointment if Liverpool are going to continue with stuff like this:

Quote:

There have also been times when Rodgers has been left to pick from a shortlist which didn’t include his initial targets. The best example of that was last summer when he was given a choice between Mario Balotelli and Samuel Eto’o at the end of the window
Sam Allardyce will take just about anything won't he? One dire north east team to the other.

He doesn't stand a chance, he's gone within the next year like every other hero they've claimed is a god, from Steve Bruce, Martin O'Neill, Gus Poyet and even Roy Keane. Most of those were responsible for their own downfall though.

Dick Advocaat was hung out to dry, persuaded by the fans into joining an empty shell, there's just no money, where is it? the bloke was promised quality first team signings and once again Sunderland either didn't buy anything or bought absolute crap. There's something much deeper occurring at Sunderland that will make it's way out eventually. You can't blame Advocaat for the dire state of the squad.

Allardyce has the task of getting that team right the way through till August with likely minimal signings (Loans and a few million pops)

People constantly ask why Sunderland and Newcastle are bad despite changing managers and spend a bucket load of money, it's simple, they're both rotten to the core and the majority of fans are fickle enough to accept the manager is at fault all the time. There's a few calling time on McClaren already. He had players he wanted and got most, why didn't he get the last few despite Newcastle having more than enough money available given they've also committed to make £50 million + any other available funds available in every window for the next 4 years. It's the inside of Newcastle yet again causing the problems.

Where's this Ellis Short bloke that should be standing up to be counted? Where's the money at?

Right, how about a joke instead?

Ivan Toney (Newcastle United youngster was asked this)

Question: Who do you look up to in the first team?
Toney: “The way Pa**** Cisse is so clinical in front of goal is something I admire. Err.. ok

Yep that's exactly my point and thus the quote given earlier. I'd like to assume Klopp could attract big names, but what's the point if they're simply going to say nah, pick from these instead. I'm sure Rodgers didn't want to sell Suarez and I'm sure Klopp wouldn't in the same position but they decided that £70 million was a better deal than potentially winning the league.

Rodgers and that committee have spent £300 million and I'm not showing bias but what do they actually have to show for it? Benteke  Sturridge?

That Sturridge season was 50% him and 50% Suarez making him.

Benteke is a Klopp type player, said it when he signed, it confirmed more than anything to me that Rogers days were numbered and it would only be a matter of when Klopp wanted to take the job rather than Rogers doing anything to save his job. One of the worst committee blunders was manquillo on loan for two years at gawd knows how many million per season, that's not even mentioning Lambert, Balotelli, Aspas etc etc etc. No one wastes money quite like Liverpool.

I have a nasty feeling he'll turn out to be the best manager Liverpool will have had in years, maybe even making them title contenders. Not winners, just contenders so on one or two occasions they'll be at the top of the league for a week or two then slipping back down Arsenal-style when it matters most.

The media will love him though, he's already given them the ready-made headline of "Klopp the Flop" when he's under pressure and Liverpool lose to some tin-pot bottom-of-the-league side.

Meh they should do away with friendlies affecting rankings. Could strip Pele of his Exhibition goals and the goals he scored in his sleep whilst they're at it.

Pointless bothering with anything FIFA do, you have to take it for granted now that everyone in any position of power is corrupt. Tear it down, it's getting ridiculous now.

Proven the voting system is a shame and both the Russian and Qatar world cups were rigged and yet Blatter was content on just leaving it at that. Even now though there's very little being done about it. Sends a very good message out.

Another one was something that popped up a year or two ago now, UEFA were apparently investigating match fixing in the champions league but refused to disclose when or who, it then just disappeared without any public release. Transparency at it's finest.

I mean it's crap like this that makes me avoid international football, I'll still watch England in the cups but my caring days are disappearing and it started with that disgusting Lampard no goal in South Africa. A mix of FIFA dogcrap balanced with just how overhyped and poor the England team are and you get a cruise control effect.

As much as we rant about the FA it's still a whole load better than the stuff FIFA pull out. I and many others are content with club league football. Gone for the moment are the great English Champions league nights. My last memory of a great night being Chelsea beating Barca at the Nou camp with 10 men and following it up by winning the trophy against Bayern in Germany on penalties. That's not a UEFA fault though it's our own.

My last piece then and something I've never been vocal about before. I'm not a rugby fan. I can't stand it and I don't wish to explain why, I just don't. It was a world cup and I just found myself sticking the England-Aussie game on in the background. The first thing I noticed was the ability to hear the ref and their conviction along with the respect the players had for him. No one back chatted and no one argued. The second I've heard before was the way they used a video to confirm a decision. I.e you could hear someone saying you may award a try or so on. Football is absolutely desperate for this even if just for big decisions. Someone has to make it happen. Eradication of so many dodgy decision. The likely end of diving and whatever else.

I assume Newcastle will be keeping Wijnaldum in a Nuclear bunker for the week. This is exactly what McClaren needed, a chance at a game with your entire attacking options available against a normal team to get things started. Keegan football worked and Newcastle's attack has looked dangerous since Mitrovic returned, today showed why. He's got Alan Shearer written all over him, an absolute bully on the ball, his ability to hold up play is flawless and his control and finishing was on show for all today. Perez once again showing why he's special.

Olympiakos and Zagreb game is going Arsenal's way so far. A win for either and a loss here would be pretty much devastating. Arsenal always seem to pull off a stunner against Bayern when it doesn't matter... it does matter right now however.

Arsenal right back in the group stage as it stand here and elsewhere. A sneaky win at the Allianz could leave Bayern in that mess. Now that would be something.

Considering some of the things that happen on and off the pitch it's pathetic. I'm certain I've heard plenty of fans booing it over the years as well.

Never knew it was that much short of a full house. Our European crowds are always reduced cos we have to supply room at the ground for all the media vehicles that follow the circus, which apparently means the crowd can't move about safely so health and safety reduce the capacity. Then advertising boards round the pitch are larger as well, so the first couple of rows of seats ain't used. So as silly as all that sounds UEFA seem to be doing a good job for the fans... :erm:

Capacity is now supposed to be around 55,000 with the new stand extension, gate was 45,000. Most of the top tier of new stand was empty which you don't always see on TV.

Personally I think that booing that anthem should become de rigueur for all fans from now on.

I'm expecting to see plenty of gaps at OT next Wednesday, I have got my seat but keep getting emails offering me the chance to purchase up to four more.

To be fair you'll probably have a game in the group stages that might not be as attractive as the others, so I can understand if it's not always a sell out. But although Sevilla might not currently be doing well in their league I wouldn't really class them as unattractive. The booing would be great, though UEFA would probably find a way to charge everyone.

Chelsea have imploded. Mourinho won't be sacked naturally but if things continue the way they are on the pitch as well as continuously himself being involved in some form of controversy then I can see him resigning as Chelsea manager.

The thing is Chelsea if they sack him will have one almighty big compensation bill and l am not sure they will want to do that at the moment.

Plus who would take over? Roman doesn't exactly have the best track record with managers does he? Only one I could have seen them appointing has gone to Liverpool. Although Guardiola seems to be struggling in Germany. Maybe he will come to Chelsea soon?

I said somewhere on here that it would cost a fortune to sack him cos he's recently signed til 2019. We never added what we really needed to the squad in the summer, and that's where our problems started, along with a late and awful pre-season. We're too predictable and don't have any really dynamic central midfielders to use, which was a problem at times in the second half of last season. I still don't think he'll go, and I'm sure you all agree with that seeing the fun he's giving you all lol.

denphone 25-10-2015 10:55

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Yes l quite agree in that Chelsea really did sod all in the summer to become less predictable as teams quickly suss sides out in the PS.

Well if Klopp quickly starts to perform his miracles we might just even pip you to 4th place Mr P.;)

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Being honest, it might be good for us all if another team breaks into the top four and has a go at it. Leicester and West Ham are deservedly up there now and they'd certainly give the rest of Europe a shock if they stay there. Anyway, a couple of good results go your way and the table's still close enough to change, so the quadruple's still on for us.... :erm:

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Oh dear, that's a pretty horrendous penalty decision. He's then somehow found a way to send him off too. Derby ruined by a shocker. Given that Gini Wijnaldum went down under the same circumstances less than 3 minutes earlier just makes it that much more worse. An undeserved lead and an undeserved red card. Penalty and a red card for a shoulder barge 3 minutes after Lee Cattermole plays it with his arm and then blocks off Wijnaldum, you'd think it was scripted. Seen this exact thing happen on a wing more time than I can remember, but because it's in the box it's a penalty and a red? Give over.

Edit: Surely now that one ref has managed to get himself into the headlines, you can't get another daft one for the 2pm kick off :D

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Now that's deserved.

Allardyce talk says it all really. Nothing to be done though, rather move on that moan for the rest of days. Waiting for Stevie's mandatory FA Ban for criticizing the ref now. After that absolute howler of a decision for vertonghen last year I thought we'd see a quality increase for refereeing, it instead just keeps getting worse.

There's a much better derby on now, today's questionable decision has already been used so we've got a nice game here.
Those staple guns are horrible, first hand experience, I missed what happened though?

Wasn't the best of games, looked like City had settled for a point at half time, both sets of forwards poor TBH. Good atmosphere though all the same.

The best way is to get rid of some of the players who simply can't cope is to get rid of them in time and bring in players who simply don't bottle it every time the going gets tough.

I think a big sacking this season will be Mourinho. No matter how big he is. Abramowich wont put up with Chelsea being in the bottom half of the table - l think they are about 6th from bottom.

Unthinkable, and l don't support them. I can see Chelsea offering him a way out - and after the farce at the weekend, with NO managership on the bench - unheard of

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Newcastle United’s appeal against Fabricio Coloccini’s dismissal during Sunday’s derby fixture at Sunderland has been successful.

Quote:

His decision to send off Fabricio Coloccini and award a penalty in first half stoppage time was absolutely staggering and completely changed the course of the game that seemingly had only one conclusion.

Rob Elliot was slow off his line and Coloccini's shoulder charge was unnecessary but how the officials managed to decide that the diving Steven Fletcher had been denied a goalscoring opportunity was scandalous.
Yet somehow Robert Madley escapes again. Chris Foy rings a bell too, Spurs offside goal last year. How can you expect the standard of refereeing to go up if you just rescind red cards? You're basically saying the referee is wrong but leaving it at that.

Fabricio Coloccini will not serve a one-match suspension after his wrongful dismissal claim was successful.
An Independent Regulatory Commission found that the match referee had made an obvious error in dismissing the Newcastle United defender for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity during the game against sunderland on Sunday 25 October 2015.

Newcastle United have been charged for failing to control their players in relation to their reaction to the match referee’s decision.

The club have until 6pm on 30 October 2015 to respond to the charge.

So let's just get this straight, the referee drops an almighty b*ll*ck drastically altering the course of the game and the FA take exception to the Newcastle players for rightfully suggesting that he's wrong.

Surely the extent of Madley's error excuses whatever reaction that follows, due to extreme provocation? One follows the other and the ferocity of our response merely mirrors the stupidity of the original decision?

Newcastle's correct response to the FA should be of no more than four words
Couldn't make it up :erm:

Well that was a waste of several hours of my life. :( didn't wait for the penalty shoot out at OT, only just caught the last tram and arrived home well after midnight.

Question, if you have five Englishmen and five foreigners in your team, which of them do you trust with penalties?

English international footballers taking pens.
