The trouble with some of these young English players is they don't want to fight for their place at the bigger clubs thus that's why he has joined Southampton with a view to making it permanent after next season.

No disrespect to Southampton Julian ;) who are a lovely club and who also have a excellent youth system but the fact remains that top English players need to play for the biggest clubs at a rarified level if England are ever to punch their weight in international football again.

So benchwarming at a "Big" club is the way forward for England?

Players haven't left Southampton to further their England careers.
They have left to earn more money, that is all that matters to them.

The abject performances by England in the recent past are a sad testament to that.

I think the players need to move to where they can play football rather than think they've made it and sit on the bench at a big club. You only have a certain amount of years as a footballer and you need to take each one. The lack of ambition (in terms of achievement rather than money) is a problem. Too many players are happy to play bit-roles at a bigger club for bigger money then actually play football elsewhere, especially abroad.

Baloney, it's a recent phenomenon that players had to be playing for a top club, it didn't matter in '66 or '90 who people played for and both those teams did a lot better than this rabble.

If that is the case, why would they choose Liverpool? One season does not a swallow make (ok..paraphrased, but someone is swallowing a lot, to believe Liverpool is top club)

And youth? Is that why Liverpool took lambert? To give youth a chance? My granny (if alive bless her) would happily play for liverpool, if your team views "youth"with such a wide range of age :D

Indeed one swallow does not make a summer as does not winning the PL for two of the last three years does not make Man City the equal of their bigger neighbours.;):D

Liverpool have given youth far more of a chance then that non English side called Man City.:)

Maybe Cazorla is leaving but something has to happen because spending £18 million or whatever on our strongest position and the position in which we already have the most depth would be mad.

I really just want a defensive midfielder. Maybe a centre back or striker. However this summer would be complete with a defensive-minded midfielder. Just someone who'll stay back a bit.

Wenger has denied it.

& in other news Verm could leave. Wenger also says he's happy with business so far and is still open to do more. Fitness is a real interest for AW this season which is no doubt linked to Shad Forsythe joining Arsenal.

AW expects the transfer window to become busy 15th August onwards...

Personally I don't know why he bothers answering questions. Football fans are the most offended people in history and get upset about everything. He was asked a question and answered it with his opinion. You may not agree but it's harsh to say he is 'moaning again'.
