If the channel is closing on both platforms, surely it can be mentioned as they can't stop it from leaving the platform.

Also what is the point of posting a channel might leave if you won't post what it is.

its possible that the idea was posted by the broadcaster to gain feedback on the decision and only if the feedback is positive will they decide to make the change.

In this case the person asked for feedback would have been given the information and been given a DNP which must be what has happened here to MB.

"Reality TV" wasn't owned by them anyway, it's just the name of a Cellcast channel carrying CBS Reality during the day and "Psychic Today" in the evening.

l always thought that a History channel should present programmes about actual history but sadly in the last few years they have filled up the schedules with programmes that have no relation to history at all.

Are the days of the VIP Collection numbered?

Got the latest Virgin Media mailshot today. Again no VIP package in the booklet at all.

In the new booklet they are pushing the Premier Collection and the Essential Family Collection. Interestingly there's yet another new package. It's bascially the Premier Collection but instead of 60mb broadband and talk weekends the new package has 120mb broadband with talk unlimited for £67.50 per month plus £15.99 line rental.

What's happening to VIP? Are Virgin planning to phase it out?

Interesting news about small world cable. Weren't they taking a hit on Sky Sports when Virgin readily passed the increases on? I guess their customers might end up with the odd rise, but also presumably now get TiVo etc. Shame, I liked their owner, very open with his customers.

Only £16 for SKY Sports 1 & 2 on Smallworld. That would suit me perfectly in terms of the sports I watch.

If it were cheap, everyone would subscribe to Now TV rather than Sky Sports and a base TV service. The service has to tread the line between competing with Sky Sports and being tempting to one-off viewers who may just want to see a few events a year. Rather than pursuing illegal services, such viewers can now see an event or match reliably for a tenner.

They may well do so. It would not entice me though, if someone was to watch just three days of sport over a one month period I.E. 3 days of a golf tournament, 3 days of a test match, 3 Super Sundays or 3 ODI's, 3 rugby matches, some tennis or darts or if they choose any 3 individual matches of the many different sports available they would be paying £29.97.

The basic sports package is £27.25 on VM, so people may as well take the entire (over-priced) sports package, and enjoy the vast amounts of sports available.

Sky really know how to make easy money off of people with their sports offering.

What would be interesting would be a move towards having a Now TV app on Tivo as an alternative to the existing wholesaling/subscription model.

Is there even 43 channels that Virgin are missing or does this include the likes of shopping, music, radio and +1?

Also does VM have the capacity?

Have to say I'm impressed with the quantity of channel additions that Virgin has been making of late both before and after the Liberty takeover. They really seem to have got the message on the channels front.

Because UPC operate in other markets.

You may see a gradual convergence as contracts come up for renewal, but don't expect a total alignment.

Is your optimism still based on media reports OB?

Last year, I think there were some media reports that did lead to encouraging signs, but such reports now seem to have disappeared.

I would think Sky launching Atlantic on Now TV will mean that any launch is way into the future (if it ever does launch) as Sky will want to milk now TV based Atlantic subscriptions for as long as they can.

I think there may have been reason for hope last year, but that hope seems 'straw clutchingly' faint now.

I don't think the fact that they have extended the contract with HBO helps. Sky have obviously seen it as a USP draw to their service and wish to continue using that draw. I know there is an argument that they could benefit from selling it to help pay for it, but they have survived a good few years without needing to do that, so I don't see why they can't survive a few more.

I'm not like Dave42 who says it will never come; I just think the chances are extremely small in the near to mid future. I hope I am wrong.

The £9.99 day pass for Sky Sports might seem expensive, but I get one Sunday off every three weeks so there's not any real value for me in subscribing to Sky Sports on a monthly basis, but give me a Sunday off with an exclusively live Grand Prix and two decent Premier League matches for a tenner and I'd have to consider it worthwhile. All depends on your circumstances.

Remember, there are several versions of Now TV including:
- Now TV Films on-demand. Similar to Netflix. £8.99 per month all-you-can-view. This is the implementation on YouView.
- Now TV Films on-demand and Sky Movies live. Now TV Entertainment, Now TV Sports. Live channels This is the implementation on Roku and most other devices.

It is quite possible that the Now TV implementation will just be the same as the standard YouView implementation so just films on-demand so more of a Netflix offering than competing against live channels.

I have never really looked at Now TV Film on Demand, for £8.99 a month it is not far of Love film price. I love Netflix for TV but find their movie choice a bit lacking. Might have to look into this.

If you like recent films, it's not a bad option. I had a six month special offer of £2.50p/m, but at £8.99 it's not too bad, providing it's selection appeals to you. Recent films aren't that much of a draw to me so quit it at the end of the b6 months.

Vi a PC, it is only SD quality, and not very good SD in my opinion and only stereo. I believe some devices stream at 720p but still only stereo.

If they made it 1080p and 5.1 it would be pretty good value IMHO.

However, Lovefilm for £9.99 with 2 bluray discs at home at any one time plus their streaming is perhaps a better option?

Here's a site which is useful for seeing what's on each service. Unfortunately, Netflix does not permit its content to be listed but it shows most of the others. Clicking on Life of Pi shows it's available as part of the Now TV subscription, on iTunes to rent and available from other sites to buy. http://movies.tanktop.tv/filmlist/?page=0

There's also a £5pm six-month student deal available for Now TV at the moment but I understand it's open to all. http://www.nowtv.com/promo/studentof...V_studentoffer

No over xmas lots of codes were given away for free. Mainly on large packs of beers. People bought the beers and sold on the codes to off set the beer costs. The codes were going for £6 but as more came on the prices tumbled to £3.

Codes were also given away as part of a Now TV Groupon deal. 6 months movies and 6 codes was about £15

I bought a series of codes to use when a football match took my eye on a Sunday as i don't subscribe to Sky Sports. All you do is load them on your account and you can choose when to use them.

It's on YouView more generally, not only Talk Talk. I think that one of the main reasons for NOW TVs existence was to fight Netflix and Lovefilm on that new platform. The fact that so many people who were given a box, have since put them on eBay must be a disappointment. :D

I don't see it as a threat. Customers to Virgin are already paying Virgin the likelihood of them wanting channels they could already get from Virgin is slim. If Virgin customers cancelled they would lose the box and the access to Now TV.

This also maybe a way of Virgin bartering with Sky to get Atlantic or SS3 and 4 HD

But where is this information based on? One story that is highly speculative,

I can appreciate speculation/theory on channels VM consumers would like to acquire like SA
I can understand on ones that have been announced as intended to launch like ITV encore

But speculation on a channel that doesn't exist I.e. Sky bravo is just plain daft, if anything if such a channel was planned I suspect ITV encore is now this said channel, which will be a sky exclusive for given period.

Why would sky want to do a deal for sky bravo with VM when they have proven in the above two examples of doing it alone (SA), if anything this proves they want to do deal with producers like HBO and ITV and not direct competitors, BT and VM

Why would sky want to do a deal for sky bravo with VM when they have proven in the above two examples of doing it alone (SA), if anything this proves they want to do deal with producers like HBO and ITV and not direct competitors, BT and VM

I'm going by this http://www.tvforum.co.uk/tvhome/brav...92/#post884759 and like you i suspect the channel was indeed ITV encore, only time will tell if Sky Bravo does launch or not.

That's impressive. They've only been offering TV for 16 months and are set to hit 1 million TV customer by the end of next month. The fastest growing pay TV provider in the UK.

If they wouldn't give a provider they don't see as a big rival access to their prized American drama channel, when agreeing the new SKY basics carriage deal earlier this week, then Virgin Media have no chance.

Purely as devil's advocate, surely giving VM access to SA would give VM an edge over Sky due to their superior broadband speeds and any possible triple pay package deals that VM could offer to new customers coming over from Sky?

With fibre optic broadband launching across the uk now the tables may be turned on VM regarding fastest broadband. Still a long way to go ofcourse but it can't be denied broadband and tv is changing. VMs problem is traffic management many companies don't throttle speeds nowadays so say for example you're on skys upto 78mb package then you are going to get that speed no matter how much you use, vm throttle speeds i think VM will get rid of tm in due course though.

Thanks for a link, however that kind of sadly confirms what I think; this is a forum making reference to another link to what I call the infamous broadcast now website; the same website that suggested SA was back in discussion (pre BT) which some have used as concrete evidence that it was coming this autumn.

We really need to stop doing this to ourselves we do us no favours

And that's something good old Sky won't allow at the moment Harry but things could change very quickly as we all know.:)

I think you've got to be careful with those figures Chad. Are they customers who are actually paying extra for YouView Pay-TV services or just those that have been issued with a free YouView box?

The evidence on eBay seems to suggest that there are lots and lots of people who have been issued with a YouView box by TT in particular, who are not using them. Note the number that are listed as unopened.
