In the end its US that will end up paying for it.

I am a football fan, but I've not been on to VM day in and day out because I know how business works and that talks are confidential.

OF course we will have to pay if we want to watch....again, its how broadcast companies make some money to enable them to buy the rights to the football that football fans want to see. Again, thats how it works. But no matter how many posts you make, how many emails you send, how many phone calls YOU make...will not make VM/BT tell anyone, any time sooner than when a deal is done and announced to the relative Stock Market first.

Business deals aren't conducted on a 'relatively' unimportant Internet Forum where a tiny tiny % of its customer base actually frequents.

VM are trying to tget BT Sport free, to cusromers on the XL pakage. So that we do not have to pay any extra - this is what the stumbling is.

I said to them that in the end we will be paying for it, l said that over the last 18 months our prices have gone up three times compared to ONCE a year for Sky, she apologised for this. But still insisted that when they are disappointed that its not on despite talks.

So l wouldn't hold your breath about Saturday, l am bitterly disappointed

Arthur, I don't think this is anything we didn't already know. The talks are on-going. I fail to understand why you are disappointed. It's looking good for Saturday but they can't tell us just yet because this is going to the wire.

I know and have been recieving 5.1 on the channel for years but at the moment there are none. BBC 2 HD works fine.

Noted that BBC1 HD is not transmitting in Dolby. It's just stereo all programmes but not Dolby.

Just listened to Howardmicks and the radio prog, l have actually found a company that worse than VM - its BT Sports.

IF, BT Sports customers are having trouble getting there channel despite subscribing, what will it be like on VM, we have trouble getting anything from them.

I give up - l will go watch the games, or will just watch them on Sky.

If only that were true..simple BT are using BT Sport to drive their broadband..they want to destroy VM's Broadband offering, so by forcing VM viewers over they blackmail people into taking out their broadband..

Sadly from what l have been told via the CEO's office, l have accepted the worst and cannot be bothered anymore.

VM will commit suicide on a business sense, they won't get a deal, and its the customers that will suffer, and will move over to Sky.

Again, VM want a deal that is not going to cost anything, there office told me that they dont want a deal that will cost US extra money.

What l think VM are doing is trying to get a deal that will MAKE them money, and then pass on the any extra cost to us in the long run - like hidden price increases.

There won't be any SA either. I will just watch football on Sky and listen to Soccer Saturday with Stelling - much more entertaining.

I have been played the fool for too long by VM, I cannot believe this has happened. They must be the only company that doesn't go out of there way to attract customers to the big event.

Well its turning into one hell of a soap opera !!!
Are bt witholding ? Don't think so the getting on the cheap is rearing its wearer head again, problem is sky have said it about Atlantic, universal have said it about universal hd and now bt not outright but all comments certainly mean the same.thats 3 different companies they can't all be lying.
I have always Said it was a mistake selling there channels they lost there bargaining tool and now solely rely on channel operators supply them with channels, this is only one company but they could be the start of future events vm think they need to put them on there service for advertising and because the amount of customer subscription.trouble is that is soon sadly gonna drop and more than likely after Saturday, someone on here commented days ago that vm expected to lose some customers but currently no where near what they expected.Basically they can afford to lose a few because they have the money which they are saving from not paying espn that is total arrogance and a disgrace,Interesting times ahead and who knows there may be another turn of events before weekend but I'm starting to doubt it .The 9 year deal is slowly going down and will be up before we know it and I can seriously see the loss of sky channels again if there not carefull thankfully that is along way off at the minute,by then vm could just be a phone and broadband provider anyway

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

Virgin are probably holding out thinking that BT will give in and accept their poor offer due to the advertising revenue drop from not having their customers. With the amount of customers leaving VM over this, will they actually come out worse than if they had accepted a higher price earlier?

The maths are not so straightforward and the short term gains over long term gains have to be considered too. A majority of customers don't want the hassle of switching providers so stay with a provider for a long time so maybe this is something BT is hoping on.

I don't think any other platform has added so many channels in 2013. Virgin have led the way.

They also added Ginx which is a 24 hour gaming channel which I absolutely love.

I forgot that one. They also launched a few more foreign subscription channels not in my list too. In total Virgin are up to around 42 new channels on their platform, which works out at roughly a new channel launch every 5 days so far in 2013!

It's currently showing 'Britains Best', which looks more like a historical programme than drama

Interestingly, they have just advertised themselves as being on Sky and Freeview, with no mention of VM.

Still, it isn't contracted to start until 6am, so I'll go to bed before I get into trouble :D

Would that be by the Chadgorian calendar? Are days longer? Or does the year start on a different date?

Perhaps it is a Chad-fiscal year, where the year starts when money is in your pocket, and ends when it refills? :D

That's it Now Arthur has given up that must mean BT Sport is not coming to Virgin I mean he must be in the know as the CEO's office rings him everyday to give a personal update :rofl:
Personally for me I love my sport especially football but their is no way in this world I would sign up to Sky or BT just because I couldn't get their sports channel as I would have to get BB from Virgin everyone else in my area offers BB at a staggering 0.5mb's

I'm the same. Which, incidentally, means I'd regularly have a speed which would preclude me from streaming Bt Sport, even if I had their broadband. Jat.

Can someone please explain to me why it appears ESPN is back on Virgin as of Saturday two weeks after it closed down ?

I assume it is back from the comments here, and also from the TV Guides which are now showing a single HD channel for it.

I'm not reading anything into it, I am just curious

My next door neighbour has Sky and Sky ADSL+2 24mb BB and he barely gets 0.7mb on a good day and as low as 0.4mb is regularly seen, I spoke with BT on the BT instant chat service and they said that my area wouldn't be able to get BT vision until 2015

Sounds familiar ;)

We actually had 23 new channels by the start of March and 27 by the end. Media Boy's "unlikely rumour" was probably his most accurate post ever.

l am not complaining about the channels we have received SP but alas there are still quite a few must have channels which we have been patiently waiting for a considerable while and alas we are still waiting for them but our next price rise l see we don't have to wait that long for nor the one after either judging by the last couple of years.

So other than BT Sport and Sky Atlantic are we missing anything else really? Excluding HD channels that is.

Only channel i can think of which i'd like is Fox News because it seems absolutely comical and hilarious to watch (for the wrong reasons)

Just a shame that two prime channels everyone wants are BT sport and sky atlantic so people do look past all the improvements they have made.

Virgin offer a great selection of channels. There may be a few HD channels missing but many are being withheld from Virgin. With 10 new HD channels reportedly launching on Freeview in the next 10 months, and channels like More4 HD losing their exclusivity to SKY real soon, Virgin might not be a million miles away from offering 60 HD channels.

In terms of other channels, your not missing anything major. SKY offer a wider selection of music and news channels but Virgins music on demand and 11 news channels should be enough to keep fans of music and news busy.

I'm inclined to agree. They've certainly done well this year adding some of the missing HD channels, but that's against the terrible previous year and the fact they were lagging so far behind. Still channels such as Nat Geo Wild HD and Universal HD that have been around for ages now. Hopefully they are working on these too.

I quite like filler channels to be honest as i always end up watching france 24 drunk on a friday night for some bizarre and frightening reason. no idea why. so i quite like filler channels to watch once when it launches and never to watch again.

This is an extract from Routers news:
Separately, a person familiar with the situation said the group was close to agreeing a wholesale deal with cable operator Virgin Media (LBTYA.O). Any wholesale deal would increase the number of viewers watching the channels, and allow BT to charge more to advertisers.

you can read the whole news report here http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/0...97B0KG20130812

I'd still like to know where reuters got this information from?? it just sounds as if someone in reuters as heard VM and BT are in talks. They've then gone "hmm those talks have gone on for a while...they must be close now" and then shoved that at the bottom of a report.

why on earth would that update the tv anywhere app with these placeholders if no deal had been done?! The mystery continues!

Was bomberAF right all along? A deal was always done but would only ever be announced or signed (so they wouldnt need to announce due to stock exchange). This could be a brilliant twist. bomberAF could win!

This was also the same VM that accidently put up a news slant saying BT was coming and quickly pulled it down way back a couple of months ago.

dont get me wrong this is all looking very, very promising but once bitten twice shy

and unless bomberAF is a modern day nostradamus no deal like what he stated could ever been in place like that between two companies, if there is a deal in place is only happened/ing last 48 hours
