But it can be attributed to an employee of the company, who, at this time, may be in negotiations with the company.
And, if they are like most companies when they undertake due diligence, a web search using matching terms is usually part of the process. Search on "VM" and "Arise TV", and see what comes up. Your contact obviously doesn't understand OpSec.... |

Who needs who more? Lovefilm can already be accessed via PC, iPad, Kindle Fire HD, XBOX 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Sony Smart TV, Samsung Smart TV, LG Smart TV, Cello Smart TV, Samsung Smart Blu-Ray Player, Sony Smart Blu-Ray Player, LG Smart Blu-Ray Player, Sony Home Cinema, Sony Network Media Player and SONY Network Media Player. Oh and a YouView launch has been strongly rumoured for a couple of months. Personally I have 6 of the above listed devices. I'd imagine most customers with TiVo will have at least one of the above. I can only assume it's not financially beneficial for Lovefilm to be on TiVo. Clearly Lovefilm are happy to have their product available as widely as possible. Virgin launched their TiVo box 26 months ago. If there was a real strong desire to have top quality apps like Lovefilm or Netflix they would have been added ages ago. The apps I have on my LG Smart TV put the TiVo selection to shame. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
Have a WDTV as well as a pc hooked up to my LG smart tv, with all three being able to use premium services like lovefilm/netflix etc. Fully expect to go the way of just broadband and use on demand streaming as most viewing here is time-shifted anyway.
Netflix is on android too although im not sure if they block the hdmi port on phones of block the network sharing of video to the tv (which is awesome btw). Fully expect to see HDMI android sticks with built in wireless to get more popular as they are a very cheap way of making any tv a smart tv and at the same time providing a platform for premium streaming. |

I dont think Sky will let us have Atlantic anytime soon, its doing just a little better than 5 USA+1! Its still a healthy 1.29% of the audience share, which is enough for them to find it viable. |

http://cadm.sky.com/pisa/ A basic thing to know about Sky is that the majority of our revenue comes from subscription not advertising, which means we don’t need people to watch every minute of every day - but what we do need shows that prompt people to subscribe and keep them with us once they’ve subscribed. So noisy shows that we can promote heavily that people will obsess about. As a given, these need to adhere to our brand values of Incredible Quality, being Effortlessly Innovative, having warm and friendly Family Values, being Best In Class, Optimistic and Authentic. We need our experts and people on screen to know what they are on about. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
Sky reckon Atlantic drives a quarter of all their new subscribers. On the basis of Chad's post, that means you could argue that Atlantic is responsible for 25% of the majority of its revenue-potential advertising revenue from Virgin customers is an irrelevance. You can argue all you want about whether or not it's actually any good, about whether Virgin are being tight or whether Sky are playing fair, but the truth is available from the horses mouth. It provides them with more revenue than possibly any other part of their business, and no company would ever give that up lightly. It simply won't be coming to Sky's biggest competitor any time soon.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.

From experience, I have discovered that my viewing comes from a whole range of different channels, although BBC1, ITV1 and Channel 4 predominate. It follows that the more channels you can access, the more viewing choice of programmes you have. However, if you are expecting any of the individual non terrestrial channels to be a 'big draw', you are going to be disappointed. To my mind, if there are one or two programmes shown only on one channel during the course of the year that you or your family like to watch, then it is worth having. Sky Atlantic exceeds that expectation. There are quite a few series they have shown over the course of the last couple of years that are well worth seeing. That is my personal reason for wanting the channel. I'm certainly not saying that if we got the channel, we'd be glued to it every night. That might be the old way of viewing, before multi channel television, but it's not how digital TV works. 2 hours per week to watch a digital channel is actually quite good, given the total choice available. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
^I understand what you are saying & I am not arguing the point. I just wonder if getting SA would be the sole reason to either change from Virgin or Smallworld etc to Sky, & how much bearing it has if the choice to get Virgin or Sky was to be made when thinking of moving from Freeview ( I leave out Freesat - as clearly you are part way there - dish etc I am guessing on that point)
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
It would be interesting to know how many customers actually joined Sky from other providers when Sky Atlantic launched. There may well be some that moved since too, but personally I can't see it being a big enough deal to move, as many of the programmes can be viewed by other means, legal and illegally.
For example, I'm hoping to buy Game of Thrones soon on Blu Ray. It'll be better quality than Sky's HD, I'll have a copy forever that I can watch anytime and not worry about having to remove it from my DVR. And it will work out cheaper than paying Sky's subscription for the duration of 2 series, IF that was the sole reason for having it. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 1.
We had Virgin for a few years, and were very happy with it until a couple of years ago. Losing MTV Classics led me to writing a letter of complaint to Virgin, not that I ever knew it would do any good. When new channel after new channel launched on Sky, (some of which were actually quite decent), but failed to appear on Virgin, I got a little more annoyed, and then when Diva closed down, and they proudly proclaimed their best programmes had simply moved to The Style Network, which Virgin didn't have, nor would get It was the final straw.
I was exceptionally Naive when Sky announced in 2010 their recently purchased channels of Bravo and Virgin 1 would close, but the void would be filled with Sky Atlantic.. I actually believed that this would go for Virgin viewers too, and when people started to fuss about not getting it on here and DS I laughed, believing it was obvious we would be given something to pacify us after the loss of two decent channels, and Atlantic was the obvious choice... but in the end we got nothing. CBS came, and nothing, Sony came, and still silence, MTV Classic disappeared overnight despite the fact it continued pretty much everywhere else, Diva TV went without replacement, and then I was out of the door too. Sure some of the channels have made a very belated appearance on Virgin, but its not what I expected of a large multi channel operator by any means. I now have Sky, and miss the Virgin on demand offering, but I do have all of the major broadcasters available. I have MTV Classics back too, which is great news for me, but I have also become attached to Vintage TV... an excellent offering on Sky, but another reason I can never see me returning to Virgin. |

2 "reality" programmes seem to be taking over her life. Giuliana and Bill is very popular as is Tia & Tamera. SKY's line-up of on demand and catch up is getting stronger and stronger. Whilst not as varied as Virgin, there is plenty available to keep me occupied. Virgin seem to be making the right moves in terms of adding new channels. It will be interesting to see what Virgin, SKY and BT offer by this time next year. |
