Long Run has the John Smith's Grand National as a possible back-up plan if he is unable to contest the Gold Cup next March.

The Nicky Henderson-trained seven-year-old is due to reappear in the Betfair Chase at Haydock next month, after which all roads will again lead to the Cheltenham Festival. He won the Gold Cup two seasons ago but could only finish third to Synchronised in March.

Should he suffer a setback, however, connections could instead point Long Run towards Aintree.

Despite having been saddled with joint-top weight, the Mikel Delzangles-trained six-year-old overcame an outside draw to power half a length clear of Alcopop under Craig Williams.

All roads for Dunaden will again lead to Melbourne for the Flemington highlight on November 6.

Paul Webber is favouring a crack at the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby over a trip to Ascot for his stable star Time For Rupert this weekend.

The eight-year-old finished a fine second in the race 12 months ago to Donald McCain's Weird Al and the two could clash again.

Having finished fifth, beaten less than 10 lengths, in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March, Webber feels he could be an even better horse this season.
