A better choice for an ellipsis would be ALT+0133 on Windows or Option+; on a Mac, which gives "…".

It would imagine it would be impractical for them all to have their own 3D channel at this early stage so ESPN showing a match dosen't seem all that odd to me. It isn't as odd as Sky Sports News sometimes telling you when games are on ESPN but I tend to agree that Sky and ESPN appear to be on very good terms. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
ESPN and Sky might appear pals at the moment but there are no friends in business. They are probably both trying to suss each other out.
It would be awesome if Sky lost some Premier league rights but it probably won't happen. They need the live football rights and they know it. If ESPN think they can make money by being the main player and not just being second fiddle, they will go for it. But if they think they can make more by just being the second player, then that is what they'll be. It's all about the money. |

Is there any news about ESPN2 and ESPN News launching soon? I remember an interesting post about 6 months ago hinting both channels are in the works. Also on a side note, does anyone else here regularly take part in the ESPN customer feedback forums?
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
It is understandable that some custromers would like ESPN to obtain more packages of EPL football. However if ESPN were to say get 3 packages do we honestly think they would continue to offer their service as part of XL?, furthermore do you think Sky would cut their subscription prices either substantially or even at all if they lost a few packages?
I think it is in our interest to have one junior player and another who mops up the majority of the packages as otherwise it is probably going to cost us punters more. In my opinion. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
Whilst I personally still don't see the value of needing 2 separate subscriptions if I want to watch all televised Premiership games, ESPN on it's own is a good channel which offers a wide range of sports for a decent price. It means people with a tight budget still have the chance to enjoy live English football at a price they can afford. If ESPN won the rights to 69 live Premiership games you'd quickly see their subscription fee jump up to about £20 per month, and it would swiftly be removed from the XL package.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
Why aren't there more games shown? I mean there's only 3/4 games per week which leaves 6/7 that aren't shown yet they are in other countries, it's pretty ridiculous imo.
I hope ESPN try for a couple even if it does mean it being removed from XL, it's not fair that there's only one main sports provider making them able to act & charge whatever they like. --- Anyway back on topic, any news on Ginx TV? |

It would be good if ESPN would pick up more NFL games from Sky. That would make more people subscribe ESPN and bigger income.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
I think the main reason for not enough games being shown is down to the PL and FL. and that some of them games won't have a 'large viewer content'.
I sent an email to Sky and ESPN on the same subject, and each broadcastor came back with 1) only allowed to show certain amount of games 2) Viewer content. This is why Blue Square games went down hill on Setanta, no one watched them, I did, l thought that some of them were brilliant games to watch, the games are now shown on Premier Tv l think. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.

In my opinion ESPN should secure two of the six packs which I believe they will , go head to head with Sky and take NFL and then add more sports like Rugby League etc instead of all foreign football. The Super League have said they are looking to make more Rugby League games available at the next rights. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
Nothing would happen to attendances, with all PL/FL games being televised.
ALL football fans would get to the games whatever the weather, l used to travel miles to watch Spurs play home and away, l even travelled to Hearts in Scotland for a friendly, and to Crewe when they played them in the Cup, ITS for the fans who cannot get to the games ie cost of travel or work commitments. When l was a kid, the only game on Tv was The Big Match on a Sunday or MOTD but these were all recorded games. Now we pay a hefty price for Live games, and all PL games are on Football First, so why can't they show the games live, Football on tv won't effect attendances whatsoever. Prime example, my two sons paid paid nearly £200.00 to see Spurs play in a cup tie, knowing full well it was Live on Tv, it is the atmosphere thats important. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. II.
ESPN need sky because of all their millions of customers. I do believe ESPN will compete strongly for Premier league games but sky will still get the better deal. You have to remember ESPN are still working with the old `watered down` contract from Setanta. Also, I seem to remember Sky were told/asked to help ESPN get up and running. Not sure if that`s still the case? As for ESPN coming off the xl package, that would be a disaster for them as I don`t believe many would pay subs for both sky sports and ESPN,I certainly wouldn`t. Virgin could of course offer both sky sports and ESPN as a joint package as sky do now. It`s all `ifs and buts` of course.
