Nope. I believe that in some cases they go out of their way to act against cops when its not justified.

could the prosecution please clarify how he was in a wheelchair and also behind police lines with his wheel chair behind him .

Well Chris, I wasn't going to reply to your earlier rant as I didn't see much point as I assumed you were just letting off steam. But since you ask, here goes..

Who said right or wrong should be judged based on sincerity? It wasn't long ago you were implying I was deluded for thinking Jody was at the demo against his will, when I never said any such thing. I'm noticing a trend here, and we can hardly have a fair discussion when only one side is sticking to the facts.

He is sincerely deranged in my view, with a far too highly polished sense of self-importance. Even the strapline of his blog should set alarm bells ringing. "One man's journey on the path to revolution". He badly needs to get out from up himself.
Maybe he does, but repeatedly referring to his writings as "drivel" is a little OTT - don't you think? Whether his work is "drivel" or not, that isn't for YOU to decide. I think it best that you should make your case, and let others decide for themselves.

Quote:

His inane dribbling shows he has little understanding of what 'revolution' means, how the BBC is constituted and run, or how war reporting works (embedded or otherwise), just to take a couple of very recent examples.
So you are saying the BBC isn't state television? You could be right, but I'm leaning towards believing the BBC is more loyal to the government than to the public.

Quote:

Unfortunately McIntyre has, due to his recent notoriety, decided that the world is desperately interested in everything he has to say, and is pouring forth on a variety of subjects he simply hasn't read enough about to have anything revolutionary to say.
You clearly have decided that noone is interested in what he has to say, but actually people ARE interested in what he has to say, whether you like it or not. You may disagree on whether or not his views are revolutionary in nature, but why not give the guy his 15 minutes of fame and let him move on. At least he's worked for it, unlike these pop idol nobodies who've decided they have the right to fame but nothing to offer in return for it.

Oh I dunno, maybe dodging the lumps of concrete and snooker balls chucked at them.

This was taken BEFORE any of the containment was put on so any of the excuses that the police caused it are void.

Oh BTW given the hundreds of cameras about how come none captured Alfie Meadows being injured? Maybe the rumours of it being a protestor 'own goal' are true after all.

Sorry, but I fail to see how an Animal panicking and trampling it's own rider is in any way humourous.

You sir, are a sick man. Based upon the tone of your posts, you also seem to have decided that the Police are automatically in the wrong, if not downright evil yet oddly, seem happy to defend the actions of those who caused the trouble. This, in itself, makes me wonder about your agenda and whether you truly care about the student's plight or are happy to use any excuse to give the authorities a good kicking.

Let me ask you this. Bearing in mind that the Press (in particular) are quite happy to attack the police when they feel the police deserve it (see the G20 coverage, the coverage of that Brazillian guy being shot and even the coverage of the attack on Price Charles), why has there not been much coverage of how the police brutally attacked the students?

Of course they are in the wrong ! Hitting children and women is never justified unless they attack first.

No, the authorities haven't had a good kicking. Did you notice the street gangs that turned up to the demos? You think they don't have access to firearms? They all do, and if the police continue with their current strategy then someone's going to get killed. They need to stop instigating the violence before the situation escalates.
Also, there's no need to wonder about my agenda - I'm entirely open with my views on this subject. I may joke about the police horse rebelling against the establishment, but I'd never take any delight in seeing a fellow human being getting hurt, whether they be police or other.

My true colours as you put it, were quite clear in my first post in this thread :

Quote:

This is what the police have to say about the student protestors and the public in general:
http://inspectorgadget.wordpress.com...for-christmas/

Some of the comments made (by those we pay to protect us) are quite despicable. Usernames like "maniac cop", "Serpico" and "Rambo" should be no surprise and give some insight into what is going on in their minds.

It seems they don't want anyone protesting, even if it is peaceful. But if protestors do exercise their democratic right to protest, they want to make the experience so unpleasant for them that they'll think twice before demonstrating again. The police seem to see it as an "us vs them" issue, which I find rather disgusting if I can be quite honest.
A rather sobering reminder of what this country is turning into.

As for Jody McKintyre, the guy has cerebral palsy FFS ! He can't wheel himself, he has to be pushed around, so if he was rolling towards the police it was because he was being pushed. They pulled him our of his chair because of something he said, end of. Derek, he was no threat to anyone, and the fact that the officer(s) in question haven't been yet been sacked (let alone suspended) is shambolic !
The adage "The Law: Unto Themselves", springs to mind.

Good find. There have been anecdotal reports of officers wearing false numbers so as not to arouse too much suspicion. It worries me that they would wish to hide their ID at all.

Yep the cop lying injured in the road was instigating loads of violence.

The Police have gone out their way to avoid confrontation in previous incidents, resisting putting on full public order gear until the hail of misiles gets ridiculous.

Yes street gangs have access to firearms. If you think they would use the demo as an excuse to shoot at cops then you really are as stupid as you are coming across in this thread.

One officer out of several thousand and it's already been explained away. Her epaulettes were on her hi-viz which officers had to change out of due to the petrol bombs being thrown their way.

Flammable Hi-Viz jackets + petrol bombs = a very bad mixture. Thats why they reverted to the flame retardant overalls later in the day.

Why do you have to be so ignorant? I've no intention of stooping to your level so please for once say something sensible or I'll ignore you.

Everything you've said is biased in favour of the police, everyone can see it but you. The police can hide their name tags, drag someone from a wheelchair, attack without provocation, joke about shooting people, and you will just gloss over those details like nothing happened - and still defend the riot thugs in uniform.
I say anyone who is so biased on an issue that they have made up their minds whilst blatantly ignoring the hard facts is a fool, and there's no fool like an old fool. ;)

99% of the cops I've seen on video have their shoulder numbers clearly visible.

I've already covered the 'treatment' of the professional protestor who seems to play on his disability when it suits him. I don't see any problem with the way he was dealt with under the circumstances. Being in a wheelchair doesn't automatically exempt you from being removed from an area.

1) Who on earth would take children to a protest? Even assuming the protest was meant to be peaceful, there is always the chance it will turn violent.

2) Why assume the Police hit first.

I know they do have access to firearms. I know they would also be perfectly willing to use these firearms in a protest without giving a rats about the actual purpose of the protest. This is why I condemn them. I don't actually condemn the students as a whole, nor do I condemn the Police.

The thing is, you did post a video of a Police officer (presumably) being injured, under a heading that described it as humorous, with no indication that you were being anything other than serious.
Quote:

You appear to be saying that the Police are the the root cause of the trouble. I have cited examples where actions taken by the Police were found to have caused injury or death to others (well, the attack on the Prince's car didn't cause injury or death, but it is serious). In all those instances, we've had several days with most of the press (and other media ) reporting the story. So far, we've had that in none of the student protests. Why? The Sun and The Mail in particular are not known to be fans of the Police.

You can train any animal as well as possible, but there will come a point where it believes it's life to be in danger and it will panic. Regardless of the training it receives.

I don't know the training they give their horses, but the Met so use them regularly in riots, so I am fairly certain they are trained to deal with riot situations as well.

Well, I heard there was least five thousand police officers there, that would mean at least fifty of them hid their identification. I can't see why that doesn't worry anyone.

So, he is considered to be a bit of an irritant and that makes it okay to treat him like that. It may not make him exempt, but it does mean he should be treated in a way according to training. Is that how the police are trained to move someone along, who is in a wheelchair? What is the correct and authorised way to move someone in wheelchair?

If the commons select committee accepted that reason then I'll accept it as well. During that evidence it stated she was the only example, surely with the professional protestors itching to show that all cops are thugs then there would be more than one example.

It all depends on the circumstances. As I mentioned previously if it was me having to move a hostile, apparently disabled person, who wasn't being compliant then I'd separate them from their chair as well.

Is it official Police guidelines? Nope, it's some people with a very stressful job letting off steam. They deal with stuff professionally on-duty but off duty as long as it's not illegal have a life as well.

Nope. I gave a hypothetical percentage and you leaped on it. As I've said only one video or photo has come to light, surely if there were more it would be out in public with the five second video clips that are enough for some people to make their minds up.

What select committee, I wasn't aware of any evidence given to a select committee yet, regarding this, or any other police officer, hiding their identity. Did I miss something?

So, when it comes to someone writing a blog about his political activities, it is incitement to violent resistance. But when "off-duty" police officers (you have no idea if they were off-duty or not, when they were writing their posts) suggesting they should be allowed to blow the brains out of protesters, that's is just "blowing off steam." Can't you see the absurdity in that? Would it ever be seen as bringing the name of the force into disrepute?

I don't think it matters how long the video clips are for, this officer still hid their shoulder number. Using the, "I left it on my other jacket" excuse, is not an acceptable reason, especially in light of what happened at the G20 protests.

I think you've missed a great deal. There was evidence given to a Parliament committee a few days after the riot where the ONE officer missing shoulder numbers was explained and accepted.

I think there is a huge difference between an obvious joke and urging violent resistance. Still you have previous for being able to understand jokes so I'll let it slip for now.

I saw a video clip of ONE officer out of several thousand not wearing shoulder epaulettes. I'll let you into a secret, not every item of clothing issued to police officers has numbers attached to it. Officers typically have two or three sets to be moved between jackets.

If the order was given to change quickly from hi-viz to flame retardant than I think it's entirely possible an officer might not switch their numbers over if they are distracted by petrol bombs being chucked in their general direction by some jolly students.

Come on now, that's really stretching the limits of probability! It's all in a days work for the police and why on earth would they need flame retardent gear when protesters were so considerately spraying around all that urine around??

Not that I disbelieve you, but could you tell me when and which select committee it was (or, if possible, could you post a link, it might save some time), so that I can have a look at the conclusions, it might give further insight.

Then the officer had plenty of opportunity to dress properly.

Is that what happened? I suppose a look at the select committee's report will confirm this. But then, apparently every other single officer who was there, was able to comply with their obligations, all except this one single lone, perhaps, dare I say, "rogue" officer.

A quick question for you; does a police officer have an obligation to identify themselves, if asked by a member of the public?

I am just trying figure out why apparently this one solitary officer was the only one to have not worn their shoulder number, when seemingly all the others were able to do it. If it is so easy to forget to change the epaulettes when changing clothes, I am struggling to undertsand why more didn't manage it.

Do you know, I am staggered. I have not seen one of the members who have criticised the police actually criticise those rioters who committed violence. This makes me think that they aren't (despite Sparkle's protestations to the contrary earlier) really that interested in the plight of any current or future students, more in using it the students plight as an excuse to criticise the Police.

I am no massive fan of the Police (I believe that when the Police do wrong they should be punished), but I am sickened by this hijaking of a legitimate reason for protest by various people to further their own ends.

I am pretty sure that is not the case. However, why should it be that any criticism of the police has to be accompanied by criticism of the protesters? I have not supported any violence. All I have done is question the behavior of some, not all, officers. But going by the post of some you'd think that anyone who highlights their failings must be in support of violent protest. For me, I prefer non-violent resistance, it has more of an impact. But it is often turned into rioting, by those who are being resisted and those who accept all rubbish they get told to believe.

Who's "they"?
Are you genuinely implying that my only involvment with this movement (despite the many years I've already been involved in peaceful protest on this issue, and only this issue) is to attack the police ?
Is that honestly the conclusion you've come to, despite everything that's been said? :erm:
Please tell me I've misunderstood.

---------- Post added at 13:03 ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 ----------

Actually, on second thought - it doesn't really matter. Its clear where I stand on this issue, and my interests do not lie with the police. They are a non-entity as far as I'm conderned. The politicians make the rules, the police just enforce them. No philosophy and no thinking required from them. They're just uniformed henchmen of the aristocracy, paid to follow orders.
So naturally, I'm more interested in seeing some common sense in parliament (for once) - which would do this country wonders.

Regardless of which side of the fence any of you find yourselves, the fact remains that there WILL be more protests.
There WILL be more violence, and it looks like this is indeed turning into a winter of discontent. If the trade unions get involved (as it looks they might) this is really going to kick off to a magnitude not seen in this country for at least a generation.

So assuming the above, what next? If this is the reality, how do we best adjust to it? Moan about it?
I suggest lets make some good of it. Teach these lying politicians a lesson they won't forget for a long time. For instance, we could implement a revolutionary change to the government system that will ensure ministers are accountable (to the public) for their actions even AFTER election time.
Its clear our system of government is dated, and need of change.
Change that will not come from within the government itself, they cannot be trusted to "self regulate". Perhaps the power is almost in reach to finally turn this country into the democracy is was always destined to become.

I don't wish to see anyone get hurt, but I think it's pertinent to remember that people's lives are being ruined under the current system, and that's what must stop. So, to achieve that goal - what is the price worth paying?

I was thinking more of widespread rioting, damage, and people injured - mind you, for a class warrior, I suppose anarchy is the end-game in itself...

Re: Students Rioting in London.

I'm hoping the unions come on board, then its possible that there won't necessarily be any rioting. Just protests in every major city - which should get the message across nicely.
Then the big question will be whether or not the politicians take any notice. If not, then yes I agree anarchy (ine one form or another) will be in the pipeline unfortunately.

Also, the HMIC report states (Chapter 6)
Quote:

Following the G20 protests, instances of officers failing to display their police numerals became the subject of intense media speculation
after a number of pictures and video clips emerged where no identifying numerals were visible on officers’ uniform......

.....it was the responsibility of individual supervising officers to ensure their officers were suitably attired and aside from the well publicised examples, having examined hours of CCTV and press footage, it is clear that the overwhelming majority of officers on the same video footage can be seen displaying their identification correctly.

Not at all .What makes the unions think that there working membership have the willing to go on strike losing hundreds if not thousands of pounds in wages ,losing their houses or getting in areas with the mortgage ,not having the annual getaway all for students who arguably don't have a case anyway

Ah yes 14:04 going by the time code on the video, not 14 minutes in. It's right at the very end of the session.

We won't be needing biased history books to explain what happened because we'll be living it during our lifetime, kapish?

By your smug tone, you sound like you're hoping the politicians win this one, is that right?

Hardly concrete evidence really. He doesn't seem to know for sure, then changes his mind.

Whats appalling about that ? all i see is a heavily edited poor quality video of rioters in a kettle .What the students need to realise i sthat measures such as these would not be needed if they could be trusted to act like mature adults and not smash the place up

Assumption is the mother of all frakk-ups.....;)

"Biased history books" - those that don't agree with your viewpoint (and it's actually "capisce").:D

I actually work in the Higher Education sector, have two offspring undertaking HE (one 1st year and one post-grad) and I think what the Government is doing is detrimental, but I also think that the ongoing expansion is unaffordable, so it is a bit of a quandary:confused:

But what I do hope is that the rioters don't win this one - there we do differ.

I am not sure if there is a "win" - just less losing.....

Sometimes, in life, we don't all get what we want (or feel we deserve) - we get what we can afford.

As I said, I am in a quandary, as I don't think it is simple as either "side" make out - the present expansion is unaffordable (imho), but I think the raising of fees will discourage some students who before would have taken part in the widening participation of HE.

i feel sad for the younger generation and frustrated that i am powerless to help them ,this situation that we find ourselves in is not of their doing but they will have to suffer for the mistakes of their elders ,the very people who are supposed to protect and care for them - your right when you say
" in life, we don't all get what we want (or feel we deserve)"
we live in interesting times .

When was the riot? I didn't see a riot. I think you are believing far too much of what you are being told. If that was the riot, things weren't as bad as has been made out.

Irony, thy name is FB.......:D

I see - you can interpret something from a shaky fuzzy cameraphone recording, but that option is not available to others.....

There was no riot, I don't think that the video needed to be any clearer.

Well. What an emotive 'collection of clips' of video.

Heavily edited and biassed. The only people i heard being aggressive and swearing in that were the students, sorry rioters.

I mean, come on! These people should be used to 'kettling' have the not been to Glasto ffs?

Why is it that some people cannot just accept the fact that some, probably most people went down there expecting trouble, it kicked off and they got what they deserved?

They will live, life goes on and they learn that politicians change thier minds. That's life.

Move on.

Again I ask, where was the riot in that video? If that is an example of the riots that went on in London, I can't see what all the fuss is all about.

Do you think that video is indicative of what happened that day? Hang on why am i asking that? Of course you do.

But reality check - no it isn't.

Who were the people swearing?

The Police asking them to move back or the rioters replying with F words etc

So you haven't seen any of the other videos? The ones where fencing is pulled down, windows are smashed, fireworks, flares and petrol bombs thrown at police lines, fires set on parliament square.

You've seen none of them and decide to base your opinion of what happened on one heavily edited shaky-cam video from later on in the night.

So students lifting steel fence panels to use as weapons along with anything else they can lay their hands and destroying public property or daubing paint on everything in sight does not constitute a riot, then please explain what the students were doing as that does not come under their right to protest under any law in any country on this planet.

Maybe you are using these.

That doesn't make any sense, you said before that the history books are written by the "winners". That implies the history books are written based on merit of victory, rather than right or wrong. That has nothing to do with my viewpoint, per se.

The rioters are a minority. You'd rather the politicians win so the minority of rioters "don't win" as you put it ?
Geez Hugh, talk about cutting your nose to spite your face.

Very true. The naysayers should look to the Greeks to see what a real riot looks like.
