FA Cup interactive

What time’s it on?
The Interactive service launches Saturday 23rd Jan at 7.18pm

It’s accessible from the ITV Interactive Service Menu via the red button 103/114/116/117 and then select FA Cup extra from the menu

Possibly the ITV channels are moving to make way for more HD content

My media friend told me ITV were in talks with VM to carry the ITV HD channels he said the rumour was November possibly around the launch of ITV 2 & 3 HD on Sky but as Media Boy has stated they aren't testing as.of yet so maybe this won't happen , but who knows.

That webpage is from last year, 23 January 2011 is a Sunday. They are the old channel numbers for ITV2/3/4.

I confirm that unfortunately there are no tests for any new ITV channels currently broadcasting on VM.

There's no need to apologise, Hiroki. It was obvioulsy not meant a slight to Christianity.

bamav, I'd much prefer peoples Religious beliefs (or otherwise) not to start making a impact on what can or cannot be said on a board about Virgin televison...there was no need whatsoever to start throwing words like blasphemy about. You have your opinion, fine, but in the context of this thread it's irrelevent.

The intent of this thread is to discuss Virgin Media, not religion. You had no right to bring it up here in the first place.

Will be nice if we get more HD channels before xmas. But we got a good amount now and VM have come a long way in regards to adding HD channels. It's just a shame the V HD + boxes have such small HDD drives, you can't record much on them especially HD recordings.

My SA V+ box ([EDIT: Swearing removed]) is almost full with not much recorded on it, you got to watch stuff soon after recording it so you can delete it.

The V+ box is generally quite good, so if yours is playing up, maybe you should ring Customer Services and get a replacement. The only complaints I have with mine is that channel changes are a bit slow and the memory is only just enough to cope with all that is required of it, which can slow down the performance (particularly after midnight!).

I can understand if you just want to hold on until the new boxes become available, but you may have to wait a few months yet until you can actually get hold of one.

Media Boy EXCLUSIVE: Global Radio to close Galaxy Radio on Digital TV tomorrow.

I have been told today that Global Radio will remove Galaxy Radio from all Digital Television Platforms (Not just Virgin Media) on Monday November 15th.

But here is the good news Global Radio will launch LBC News 1152 on Virgin Channel 919.

NOTE: LBC News 1152 is a rolling news radio station aiming to provide more in-depth coverage of the day’s news stories as well as travel and weather reports.

Gave in last night and ordered Sky Sports and HD Premium , I watched the Bears vs Vikings game and have to say the PQ knocked the arse off ESPN HD Monday night football. Is it unusual for the Sunday night NFL games to be on Sky Sports HD 2 as I thought it was normally Sky Sports 3. What channel do the Thursday night games come on as I see the Bears vs Dolphins on this Thursday is Sky Sports 2 HD. Will Virgin ever get 3 and 4 in HD ?

Just buy Five/Channel 5 off the pervert. Its cheaper, doesn't mess up EPG's and gets rid of the rubbish shown on there.

But really in the day of Digital TV 'Channel 6' seems more marketing apposed to being actually useful.

Not really. They want a unified service first.

I agree, if it's legit it looks good - more up-to-date and professional that the current UI. Looks better than what Sky have too....

Don't be such a fool. VM need to get the tv platform unified across ex-ntl and ex-telewest as much as they need to add new channels.

We checked this yesterday on the Sky website and Sky had said it was on at 2am too.

We advised customers on our community Forum to do a manual record as a safeguard. We can only publish the EPG data that Sky submit.

Why can't VM update there epg on the fly DF, and have they any plans to introduce such an improvement?

EPG updates can be done, but they take a while to update at the moment. we have highlighted and fixed EPG problems when we've spotted them, but we need a little time to impliment the changes.

This is something VM are looking to improve on. We'll know when TiVo take over the EPG software.

Thanks. That's good to hear. In fairness I've never been caught by an epg change but it would be an improvement if they were to introduce a dynamic epg.

This is what I don't understand what happens to V+ users as I believe the current deal for EPG software ends in Jan 11 and TIVO won't work on V+.

The full TiVo experience won't, no. I'm guessing there will be a "TiVo-esque" upgrade to V+ to make it more attractive, but nothing has been confirmed regarding this.

Hello. I've read CF for years, but only just signed up to post :) I have an EPG glitch to report. On weekdays mornings on channel five there's missing programme information. I only know this because I used to record Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends for my son, but I'm having to do a manual recording at the moment which is a bit of a pain because I can't make them repeat.. It's on around 8:30am.

I can't wait to get the new TIVO box, I wish it was out next week! The software on the V+ box is sooooo outdated. As is the box and it's hideously small HDD.

Wow, looks like my mockup from March was close.

Infact, looking at it I would put money on that being a mockup just with some more time spent on it (mine was about 15mins worth).

Look at the "now playing window" in the top right, same as mine!

That screen shot looks identical to the actual US TiVo service so I would think its probably pretty much what the VM service will also end up looking like rather than just a mock up.

What I should have said is that's not a live shot from a box, It's been built from TiVo's static assets.

If you look a the "Now Playing" shot from the top right of the new image and the same section in my mock-up from March they are identical.
Also it's the same as two of the shots from TiVo's site:

http://www.tivo.com/products/tivo-premiere/index.html

So what I guess we have here is a shot "built" by TiVo as a target. That or they REALLY like that one frame from MDB.

Yep that's my point, all these shots using the same assets. (My mockup is using their assets too)

---------- Post added at 16:43 ---------- Previous post was at 16:37 ----------

Thinking about it seeing as the whole UI is built in flash it's probable a shot taken from a "Design" build of the flash front end, one that streams in static assets in solely for design purposes. So technically still not off a live box.

Eh?

Firstly I don't think it's going to be selected like that. Secondly, either customers will pay what it costs or they won't. If one customer doesn't want to, I'm sure there are plenty of others that will

Tivo's own information states 150 hours of HD or 1350 SD on a 1TB disc.

Where lies the truth I wonder?

Can I be first to say "Can I put a larger HDD in my VM Tivo box"?

1 terabyte will certainly be enough storage for me and most other people forever now (especially if Virgin switch from MPEG2 to MPEG4 which means they'll take up less space on the disk) for the current HD standard, unless somehow my viewing habits dramatically change or we switch to SuperHiVisionDef3DXtraMax, which by then we'll have another new box (hopefully).

I think they may be pulling a "marketing fast one" here. By not sating all the facts, they would like you to believe that you can store 500 hours of HD or 3D content on a 1TB HDD - clearly there is some amazing magic in the VM version of the Tivo system to achieve this.;)

Tivo's own information states 150 hours of HD or 1350 SD on a 1TB disc.

Where lies the truth I wonder?

Can I be first to say "Can I put a larger HDD in my VM Tivo box"?

Well based on the current 160Gb V+ being able to store 80 hours SD or 20 hours HD, then a Terrabyte box would be able to store 500 hours SD or 125 hours HD. There's no reason to expect the TIVO box to have any effect on the amount that can be stored, as the data streams being recorded will still be the same size. The US figures may be based on MPEG4 at a guess?

Yeah 1TB should be enough i'd imagine. But would be cool if they did the option of having a 1TB or 2TB versions.

The inclusion of web content/YouTube would point to there being a hardware h264 decoder in that box and I wonder if that will mean a move away from MPEG2 to H264/AVC is on the cards (finally). If so then program space estimates on that hard drive might not be as far off as they first look.

bit of info for you

In addition to new deployments it is hoped the TiVo software will be downloaded into a part of the existing installed base. “The current V+ HD, ie non-DVR boxes that we are sourcing from Cisco, are compatible with TiVo, so we could drop TiVo onto those, but the Samsung DVRs are not, so we would probably launch DVRs that we would source from Cisco initially and they would be new to requirements,” said Berkett.

Yeah I've seen that before. I've seen a ticket raised for it too, but it was a while back.

I'll get it looked at again when I'm in the office next. :tu:

EDIT: replicated here at home too... no EPG data between 8:30am - 9am weekdays. same on 855

It's a known issue. At the moment setting manual recordings is the only way round it.
