Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

You should get asked which box you want the Sky Premium HD channels on, but they may just put it on the V+ HD box automatically

You can use whatever router you wish, but I would make sure it's going to be ok for 50Mbit

just another quick question, will i have to ask for the hd channels, or will they automatically put it on my v+ box.
Also when they install the new modem, do you have to use their router or can i use my current one?

if you use your current one and have any problems tech support will ask you go strauight to the modem

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Use their router - you can always change it over after the installer leaves, as long as (as has been said) your current router will handle 50Mb, i.e. is an "N" router.

As for the channels, the installer had to make a call (twice) whilst at my home to get this working, but it only took a couple of minutes and all was good.

Have a PC ready and booted up in the room where the modem and router are to be installed as there are some thing he/she will need to do to activate and test the system - also make sure you get the wireless USB key as you are entitled to it (I don't need it, at the moment, but may do in the future so made sure i got it.

Incidentally, you might like to be aware that if your connection at home to your computer/s if like mine, a wired connection, then you can and likely will get 50Mb speeds. If however, you use a wireless connection, then expect speeds of around 30Mb, still good, but not AS good.....

Not true. The engineers are supposed to get one PC hooked up appropriately to the connection and leave the customer sitting at the activation screen

steveg 24-10-2010 21:21

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

BenMcr is correct they did indeed leave me at the screen to enter some details, but most certainly DID use the computer himself to bring up the required speed and do a test download

They tried that with me, but I kept bringing them back to the website which describes the package and that VM insist they will treat existing customers the same as new customers, eventually insisted on a manager, who immediately agreed and booked a date for an engineer to replace the box

Quote from the offer email

'To make sure you get the most out of up to 50Mb, we’ll send an expert engineer round to set you up. He’ll even optimise your PC so you get the best possible performance, all for a one-off £20 fee.'

They carry a disclaimer form that you sign so that they can install 'tcp optimizer' on your machine. This may be required on some machines to allow 50Mb to function optimally. Assured my installer I wouldn't need it, however he insisted on a 'speedtest.net' test on my laptop to check.

Is 100Mb likely to be part of the VIP package - I have been holding off moving to VIP to see what would happen with 100Mb and TiVo. A package including both of these would certainly appeal, at the right price

here here have upgraded to vip50 from vip20, but would like to see 20 become 50 and 50 become 100 plus tivo a part of the package, but i am not holding my breath.

i might hold off on upgrading right now, because hopefully they might include the new tivo box when it is announced.

Any more announcements of when the new VIP package is out or what is included in it?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

VIP100 with TIVO would be awesome. You wouldn't get the upgrade for free though, I'd imagine it'd be expensive. You'll be paying £40.00 installation for the modem along with £30.00 activation then probably a high installation fee for TIVO, £150.00 would be plausible, plus an activation fee too. In total I'd expect to pay between £250.00 to £300.00 in fees and charges to get VIP100 with TIVO.

How much would you pay in upfront charges for VIP100 with TIVO?

jab1990 28-10-2010 00:35

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

the max i am willing to pay is £150 for the tivo and 100mb internet. If it is more then that. then i most probably wont get it until the price drop.
I just can't justify to pay more then that for a 'upgraded' box that does the same basic functions for tivo. It will also be interesting to see the new updated software to the box, because i may not bother at all if it preforms better.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I have read every post in this 55 page thread and I am still confused so I may as well just ask my question and get a straight answer.

I currently have the normal VIP bundle and I am paying £94.49.
If I were to upgrade to the 50Mb is that just £1 more?
If I do this will it trigger another 12 month contract?
Would I get the homehub thingy so I could upgrade to 100Mb and beyond if I wanted to as it seems the current 50Mb router is no good for 100Mb and higher?

Any clarification on this would be good.
Thanks guys

Thanks for the speedy reply.
In response to answer 2) The first one ;) If I go for this and I then wanted a Tivo box within that 12 months there's nothing stopping me just getting one of those and not having to wait for the 12 months to end I guess?

Got to be honest the answer to the 50Mb puts me off doing anything just yet though as forking out for a 50 option and then potentially shortly after 100 being available and forking out again is not worth it.
I'm not precious about my download speeds and can wait a bit longer for stuff it's just the potential upload speeds are tempting me as I use the painfully slow V Stuff.

BenMcr 01-11-2010 15:53

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Indeed not, Virgin are always happy for people to upgrade within the minimum term!

As yet we haven't had full details of all the 100Mbit upgrade pricing options so it may be worth waiting if you are concerned about cost of going to 50 and then to 100Mbit

Quick question (may have been covered earlier, not had time to trawl the whole thread):

Currently have VIP20 + extra box upgraded to V+ box (i.e. a total of 2 V+ boxes). How much extra would it be to go to VIP50 and get sky HD channels on both boxes?

Ta.

VIP50 is £96.50 then add £10 for V+ instead of V then add £7 for second V+ HD premiums = £113.50, I think.

I was on VIP20 from the outset until a few months ago and I downgraded to XL due to redundancy.

I'm now back up and running so I'll be ringing up tomorrow to see if I can swing VIP50 without the install and activation fees. I hope they come up with something seeing as I have been with them for over 10 years now.

Anyone else managed to get away with the activation fee?

I had VIP50 installed yesterday, left the SD stb as the 2nd STB, told me it wasn't down on the work order to swap it out, and to call up to get it sorted.

Called up twice today and both times they're telling me £49 activation, and either £20 self install or £40 engineer install.

Ummm not very good actually - I "think" that price is just a slight bit ABOVE the price for VIP50 let alone 20!

Think you need to call them and have a little chat with them - Oh, and the box upstairs should be a VHD box not a plain V box

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

That the big question.

when wil lthe new VIP packages be rolled out, if they are rolling them out in the new year, we should have heard something about them by now. We have already been told that Neil Birkett signed off the new packages months ago, so why no news ??? On VIP 20, not much more for VIP 50, but do not want to have to pay the costs for the new boxes.

Guess I will still have to wait.

dazed&confused 22-11-2010 16:18

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Just called CS:

I was quoted £ 109.50 for VIP50 + £ 20.00 activation fee and free install.

The only differences to the standard package are
1. Caller Display £2.00

2. My additional box is V+HD. I currently pay £ 15.00 less £ 9.50 discount
for that so...................

Basic £ 97.50 + £ 2.00 + £ 5.50 = £ 105.00
As sky Premium increased by £ 2.00 this month it could be £ 107.00

Therefore should I be paying £ 105.00 £ 107.00 £ 109.50.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Now you know why I'm called dazed&confused

:confused::confused:

BenMcr 22-11-2010 17:24

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Assuming you mean you have got two V+ HD boxes and nothing else

VIP 50 is £96.50
+ £2 for Caller Display is £2
+ extra V+HD £10 (pricing for extra V+ HD boxes is different on the VIP bundles)
= £108.50

---------- Post added at 16:24 ---------- Previous post was at 16:22 ----------

P.S thats with VAT at 17.5%, it would be more once the VAT goes to 20%

I'm in this same boat right now.
I see the benefits for only £1 more but then it's the activation and install costs etc. Then Tivo could be launched the following day and I am well up for that and then the following month 100Mb could come along.
Seems at present if I went to 50Mb the kit would not be good enough to upgrade to 100Mb so would need another visit etc.

I'm going to bite the bullet when Tivo is launched and go to 50Mb at the same time along with the second HD box. Don't want to be forking out install and activation costs left, right and centre.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Well I rang CS today as I noticed I was paying £94.49 for my VIP package (which I have had for years now!). They explained I was overpaying by £2.99 a month. I asked for how long and they came back and informed me I had been overpaying for 44 months! So a credit of £131.56 will be hitting my account shortly!
One happy chappy!

BenMcr 24-11-2010 22:35

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Well that's nice, considering you have probably only been paying £2.99 more than the new customer price for the VIP 20 since April (which is when the price went up for existing customers but not new customers)

Don't want to be forking out install and activation costs left, right and centre.

the 50mb modem suports up to 200mb but i think virgin wont llow oyu ot use it they want you to have the stupid superhub

Perhaps someone can help me...

I just installed VIP50 after being a long standing customer on VIP20.

Should i get SKY HD channels on the Second V-HD box or are these supposed to be additional 7 squids? I am paying 97.40 per month.

On the website no where does it say that you cannot get the premium HD channels on the second V HD box included in the bundle. Surely this is misleading!

Please let me know.

I don't mind not getting SkyHD through the second box but surely BBC HD and ITV HD should be available;)

Your second box should be a VHd with hd enabled

if i've added it up right you're currently paying £105.49. If so, upgrading to vip50 should get you the box you want, and a price reduction to £96.50...check back through this thread. And, welcome to the forum

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Just cancelled my VIP pack after two years, I no longer thing it is the bargain that it one was. Instead of adding the top tier services to it they just created a new one and charged more for it.

so got rid of all the telephone gubbins except a basic line, kept TV XL, the second STB (VHD), V+ and 20MB.

The girl on the line was trying to charge me £15 for my two boxes and it took about five minutes for her to register that there should be no cost form my V+ on XLTV. Along with the Asia pack that comes to £71, if I had not questioned the STB prices that would have cost me £81.

For the first time in 13 years we have no Sky Movies or Sports at home.

Will wait and see what new VIP packs come out next year.

Whats the chances of this going smoothly and not losing my HD channels?

Hi first post. I'm on VIP 20 and 6 months into contact. Can I upgrade yo VIP50. Is it worth it? Also can I exchange my 2nd sd box for a standard v hd box and modem for media superhub at no extra cost. Please advise.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Wonder if anyone can offer any advice. I am currently on the VIP 50 package which costs £96.50 per month. When I got it installed I hd my 2nd box (standard box) replaced witha V HD box. All I had to pay extra at that time was a £20 activation fee for the 50Mb Broadband. Since then I have replaced the non-HD TV which was connected to the V HD box with a shiny new HD TV. I phoned Virgin Media to get the V HD box activated and was shocked when I was asked to pay a £49 activation fee for the basic HD channels. Is that correct or should that have been free.

Any help would be appreciated.

Point them in the direction of this

http://shop.virginmedia.com/help/ins...n-charges.html

1. All customers ordering our VIP (Very Impressive Package) or VIP 50Mb bundles will receive V HD and V+ HD activations for free.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Thanks Ben. I will give them a phone back and point them in that direction. Seems very odd that I was passed from Customer Services to Retentions then back to Customer Services and none of them seemed to know this.

I will report back after I phone. Many Thanks.

if you upgrade to vip50 from vip 20 are you tied in for 12 months or can you down grade some things?

My understanding is that you are tied in for 12 months to that package.

No is the basic answer.
I think once Tivo is properly launched then we may see something happen then.

Trouble is that the 6 months of free HD channels for those of us who complained last summer is just about up - guess we'll have to sign up for VIP50 in the meantime to avoid a £7 rise in the monthly cost

I'm one of those also but if that charge comes on before the announcement of the new package I will be making contact again as it was in place to give them time to come up with a new package/deal

well hopefully virgin will tell us this month what the new packages will be or if they are going to hold of until the launch of tivo in march they will be a few unhappy customers who took out the 6 month HD subscription.

Please check your bill for this month as I did not receive the £7 discount for this month
A quick call to Customer services sorted that out and they credited it back immediately by changing the direct debit request for this month.

Sent an email to Diane, received a reply back from Heather saying that as they had not yet finalised the new VIP packages would I like the sales department to ring me so that I could sort it out before next month, replied saying yes please but still waiting.

lost $7 discount as well
Phone CS and couldn't help - discount was ended!
emailed Diane and recevied reply from Heather

Hi Ian

Diane is no longer working in this office so I have been asked to take a look at your email.

Unfortunately the new packages have yet to be finalised, if you'd like to contact our Customer Services Team on 150 from a Virgin phone they will be happy to outline your options and look at alternative packages for you, however, this discount will not be extended as this was offered only for 6 months as a gesture of goodwill.

Kind regards

Heather

Any suggestions ?

Ian

Ian

you could take off the Sky Prem HD pack until they finalise, if the cost is an issue?

The CEO's office is as high as you can go, so if they say no... sorry. I take it you are in a new contract still?

I'm sure the new packages are very close, especially with the launch of TiVo to regular customers about to happen.
