I believe that ITV have plans to convert ITV2, 3 and 4 into subscription channels eventually. It may be something to do with that.

Having said this, I can't see why they had to remove the '1' from their main channel. Seems fairly pointless to me. God knows what the cost of changing the logos was!

Bit of a waste. Then again, I've never liked ITV's offerings - they've always been the worst of the terrestrial bunch.

Maybe when they hit the point where advertising revenue has declined to a level where subscription income would exceed FTA advertising income.

Maybe the name change is just to differentiate between ITV as a part of ITV Network Limited and the other channels, being ITV Digital Channels Ltd. Maybe they just did it to get everyone asking why they had changed the name and generate some free publicity...

ITV2 & 3 are the 6th & 7th biggest channels in the UK so I'd imagine they're doing pretty good from those two.

I prefer ITV 3 and 4 to the main channel to be honest. Really struggling with the logo watching the match tonight though.

I'm intrigued by what's happening with Virgin - that's a lot of channels dropping down to lower tiers. Either xl is to become essentially the hd pack or something else is going on but I'm not sure I can immediately figure out what that is. What I do know is that I'm almost, but not quite, at the stage where I can access all of my favorite channels in the lower tiers, so I expect Virgin have something planned to make xl more attractive. The lower tiers are becoming excellent value.

How about all HD move upto XL & all " non" drop down . I would then drop down . On 32" tv HD is pointless. Never us them :erm:

It has ceased broadcasting on Sky, so possibly a case of VM losing the feed if they took the feed from Sky. The EPG still displays the Sunrise Radio programmes rather than a message that the channel has closed. Has it been confirmed that Sunrise Radio has been permanently removed, or are VM just awaiting an alternative feed?

I dont see why they can't just have the TiVo do it for you, have 101 default to BBC One HD if you have a HDTV and SD if you dont. Only problem would be the regional stuff but that shouldn't be an issue for too long.

But as a stop gap yeah, do what discovery have done and put the HD channel before the SD channel. Or even better, downscale the HD stuff with the hardware so you dont even need SD channels in the future.

Not sure how Sky do it, but I wouldn't want everything on BBC1 suddenly recording in HD! I would soon run out of recording space on my TIVO, and I've got a 1 TB box!

You'd need boxes that are much more technically advanced than they currently are to do that - meaning they'd be more expensive

Not really, they all have onboard hardware scalers (otherwise they would need a separate box for SD and the various specs of HDTV) so it's really just a case of making the software know what to do when it encounters a channel in a format it knows the TV can't support.

Suppose it depends on how you expect it to do it - if I remember correctly the V+ HD box could output HD in SD, but it would still record it in HD as it just records the channel feed.

What I meant was a box that would record HD in SD (going from OLD BOY's comment) depending on the settings.

Changes so far:

Comedy Central +1 has moved from 134 to 133
MTV has moved from 311 to 134
Comedy Central HD has moved from 133 to 181
Comedy Central Extra has moved from 185 to 182
MTV Live HD has moved from 310 to 311
MTV Hits has moved from 317 to 312
MTV Base has moved from 315 to 313
MTV Rocks has moved from 325 to 315
VH1 has moved from 320 to 316
VIVA has moved from 313 to 317

So a reshuffle with no extra channels added at this point. The lack of gaps in the new MTV channel range would appear to indicate that there are no plans to bring any of MTV's other channels to VM at the present time.

Says a lot about MTV when it's no longer part of the music channel group

MTV has been an Entertainment channel (as part of the Entertainment EPG on Astra) since the day Living was rebrand as Sky Living.

Thanks, actually it was one of the first in the sequence of the channel changes, I missed it from the copy / paste when I put them into channel number order.

I'm surprised they didn't move VIVA into the entertainment section, it only has music content during off-peak hours.

I'd be surprised if they moved these channels onto a new number only to move again after a short period of time. The channels have to update their on screen channel numbers and publicity material every time these changes occur, so moving around the EPG does mean an increase in promotional costs for the channels involved.

I meant moves by other channels, not the ones that moved this week, sorry I probably did not make myself clear :)

True, some areas of the EPG need tidying up.

Press red on BBC channels and see the extra option... just bringing Tivo the '301' stream as freeview users would call it.

Yeah I only spotted it on DS, rather than my box hence the late edit.
