Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
1st attempt : Option 2 : Upgrades arn't happening till 15th March..suppose this whole thread is a figment of my imagination.
2nd attempt : Option 5: Guy Asked for my postcode and name and responded with "there all done". Great I said. Still no upgrade. Can't use the online updater since NTL screwed up my account info when I first joined and issued me with a new user/pass which isn't recognised. Guess I'll just wait till my mac address comes through the system. Don't want to risk getting the angry Scottish woman again from the first call. |
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Im a newbie, got a question to ask, hope someone can help.
I've just updated my internet speed using the link given on this forum from 750kb to 2mb. I think my box (Terayon TJ210) can only download at 1mb, because when i use IRC and Bittorrent to download files, i can only download at max 135kb, which is the 1mbs speed, and my box is very old.. But when i download on Internet explorer, i can download at 250+kb, what does this mean? isit my box? |
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
I went to the autoregister website and selected the 2mb option, worked fine for me, however i've phoned a mate down the road who's on 1.5mb and the website tells him that there aren't any upgrades and to phone CS, which he did, they've told him he can't upgrade yet and that nobody at all should be on the new speeds yet.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
I just hope after the palava of my brush with NTL my bill comes out vaguely right :)
You're better off not messing with it really (if you have STB). Tends to cause more aggro than it is worth |
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Well with a little extra help - my connection has finally switched itself to 3M :D
|
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Done my upgrade (SACM, Langley) from 750k to 2mb, via the ntlworld tier change link. I had to reboot the modem though, to get it to pick up the new speed.
|
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
ive just been told that contractors will contact me to exchange my box and i will stay on 750k untill they contact me ( i asked when ) but was told it will be asap

Used the link and painlessly upped from 750 to 2mb. No reboot required.

Anyone know how to find the name that's associated with my cable modem? I tried the tier migration with ALL the names I have for my email accounts, and everyone brings the same response:

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Upgraded via the web site. As previously pointed out in this thread the site was updated to show the proper options, however once you get by the password state, on the 750k option it offers to give you a 1.5 X speed increase to 2 MB - someone buy NTL a calculator please!

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Been upgraded to 1mb whist I wait for a new samsung box on April 9th :(, still 1mb is better than the 750k I had this morning, so I guess it'll do til then.
The lady supposedly told my dad that we'd only pay £17:99 this month because they aren't currently able to offer us the full 2mb service until we get a new box, Anyone else had this??? |
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
After seeing the NTL tier migration site, i'm calling T/S and Im in the process of upgrading now, hopefully. Ill edit when I have the results.

Yep, easily. I still use a Terayon, & it's easily able to handle my new 2mb connection :) The *only* people who need a new bit of equipment are those who use a Pace set-top box (STB) for their broadband - if they want the 2mb or 3mb service, they need to have the Pace STB replaced with a Samsung STB. All of the standalone cable modems (SACMs) that ntl use (Terayon, Motorola, "ntl:home" badged Ambits, etc) can quite easily handle the new speeds. |

Are you sure you've been upgraded? I don't mean simply that you've done the online upgrade, but that you *know* it's actually been done? Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Wel, i know its picked up abit of speed. (My preditions are that its gone from 750kb to 1mb) And i have also checked the website that we all used to press upgrade, and it tells me im using 2mb internet. I can definitly tell that theres a slight difference in the speed but its not 2mb. Im downloading most files and the speed test at the 1mb speed, but the odd files at 250+kb. I'm stil not sure if its the box thats slowing my connection down.
Ps. how do you reboot manually the Terayon? Thanks in advance.. |

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Apologies for reposting, but I just want a bit of conformation before ntl T/S closes tonight :), the Q below is Ref a T/S phone call to upgrade from 1.5 meg to 3Mb
First result : I got told that it wont go through until midnight tonight (the last time I upgraded, from 600k>1Mb, admittedly a while back, was instant), but he did say it would be upgraded, is this normal? :) (This was, of course on NTL tech support line). |

Yep, as the news article says. No auto upgrade, as 300k users may want to stay on 300k & benefit from the old 1GB per day usage limit, rather than go up to 1meg, but have a 3GB per MONTH limit. EDIT: Oh, looks like you can upgrade online, according to ian@huth :tu: :) EDIT again: LOL, I'm a muppet. The news article does say 300k users can upgrade online anyway - only says they won't get done automatically. Quote:
Depends on how long the wait is ;) Just try the online thingy. Hopefully it will work for you :) |

You are presented at first only with an option to upgrade to 2Mb or 3Mb, but if you continue (ie by clicking 2Mb) after checking your connection it gives the option to upgrade to only 1Mb at the same price with thhe cap. |
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Does anyone know if the speeds will be upgraded anyway automatically to 3Mb or does the link have to be used?
|
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
speed upgrade only applies to new customers as of today unfortunately,as i understand exisiting 750 and 1 meg will be automatically upgraded at a later to be announced date,300 will have to request the upgrade as they will be capped at 3gb d/l's per month, this is what i have been led to believe anyways!
|
Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Upgraded to 3Mbit here. Wouldn't let me do it via the webpage (something about the username not being recognised as belonging to the modem), so I phoned up customer services. Waited for three minutes. Spoke to a lovely Scottish lady who took about a minute to upgrade there and then. Asked if I wanted anything else, and if I wanted anyone to ring back tomorrow to make sure everything was okay! Restarted the cable modem, and I just downloaded my first MP3 at 358k/sec :)
Excellent stuff NTL. I'm really really pleased. You've got my custom for as long as you want it :) |

I voted No on the poll there as I reboot CM and nothing. It was not until I went to Upgrade my Speed online thing that it went to 2mbit/200. Unlike the rest maybe I wont be downloading like a mad man just to see it come down faster, Ive done a broandband test and uploading some files to my Web Space (something I was going to do regardless of the upgrades).

Hi upgraded earlier to 2 meg and am very happy.....Done all the speedtests and everything seems fine, however web browsing has become much slower taking an initial 3-4 seconds before it decides to load up the page, and sometimes not loading at all. Now i understand there must be a hell of a lot more people using the web this evening but surely this shouldnt effect browsing. Anyone else experiencing these probs. Not having a moan up as am and have been very happy with NTL.
