I think there is a good chance that they will, Henry's not playing the best, they looked very tired in the 2nd half tonight. Two big games coming up on Friday and Monday...

No, they'd have to lose at least 3 (by my counting) to allow Chelsea a sniff and I can't see that happening.

Still, I did say there's no way United were going to win on saturday :D

not really, they only need to draw 2 and lose one (of course Chelsea need to win theres) and thats 7 points dropped (Which is the gap if arsenal win there game in hand.)

They don't even have to lose any! A few draws and the gap will be gone. (Again considering Chelsea can put a good run together)

Funny old game

Just in case the tide of public opinion was beginning to turn, Manchester United have pulled another gem out of the bag to alienate the man on the street.

United's players have been banned from signing autographs outside their Carrington Moss training ground in case they are sold on for a profit.

The club say they are concerned by the amount of dealers who congregate outside the ground, get merchandise signed and then sell it.

A sign on a fence outside the ground reads: "Due to dealers profiteering from the sale of signed memorabilia via the internet etc, the players will no longer sign footballs or shirts."

In a statement, United said: "This decision has not been taken lightly and we sincerely apologise to our genuine supporters."

Maybe they're just covering up the fact that some of their players can't actually write.

Link

Not good sport imo. :(

I remember collecting loads of autographs outside grounds etc.

That article is a bit misleading

Er no they haven't, they have only been banned from signing shirts, because people were getting the shirt signed and then sticking it straight onto ebay to flog - ie not genuine fans.

They will still sign a book or programme etc.....

Re: Football talk

Scholes content with United's approach

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has shrugged off criticism of the Red Devils' physical approach during their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger afterwards accused Scholes, who was booked for a foul on Jose Antonio Reyes, and his midfield colleague Roy Keane of making unacceptable challenges.
"There are always going to be tackles in big games like that," the England star told MUTV.

"We are not bothered about the stuff being said. The most important thing is that we won the game and we have a cup final to look forward to."

Blazin' Squad to Rap England to Victory?

Rumours abound that pop-rappers Blazin' Squad are to pen the official song for the England football team's Euro 2004 campaign.
The FA haven't made any confirmation as yet, but surely the tracksuited London scallys can't rap any worse than John Barnes? All together now... "You've got to move and kick, but do it at the right time..."

They've played some of the best football in year's in the premiership.. they've got a very tight squad as well, Like someone said the other day... Robbie savages Sir Alex - 'Man Utd Players No Better Than Average'

Quote:

Birmingham City midfielder Robbie Savage has stoked the Barclaycard Premiership clash with Manchester United by taking a swipe at Sir Alex Ferguson and some of his players.

And now, after an underachieving season by the Reds Devils by their own high standards, Savage has questioned Ferguson's decision to allow him, and most recently, David Beckham, to leave and then recruiting players "who are no better than average".

I see what you are saying Steve...

Will it be a situation where if a striker goes down in the area the ref will have only 2 choices..

Either punish the defender and award a penalty or book the attacker and award a free kick.

Will there also be trial by tv... where if the ref didn't see what happened the FA will take retrospective action?

Diving has to be stamped out though.

From the Manchester Evening News............and I quote

Quote:

Choose Arsenal. Choose overbearing arrogance. Choose systematic dirty play and calling it "competitiveness". Choose the most staged, contrived, celebrations ever witnessed. Choose winning two championships in eleven seasons and acting like you've won seven in nine. Choose to see yourselves as one of the giants of continental football when you've never even reached a European cup semi-final in your entire history. Choose having the quietest stadium in the world ("the library") as your home ground, and then having the cheek to slag Man Utd about their fans. Choose fancying yourselves as better than Real Madrid, then having Chelsea run rings around you at home. Choose turning the sports section of the Observer into a gunners fanzine. Choose getting away with light or delayed punishments at FA disciplinary hearings because you've had every possible string pulled by David Dein. Choose a persecution complex nonetheless and never shut up about it. Choose embarrassing yourselves in a Renault "va-va-voom" ad Choose George Graham grinding his way to the dullest championship win of all time. Choose picking Ray Parlour for over a decade. Choose 58 red cards in seven years. Choose bottling the treble despite having all the luck in the world. Choose Arsenal.
Excellent :D

No, I think he was trying to point out that consistency is needed to be the team that Arsenal think they are. Not winning the title one year then losing it the next.

Not whinging about other teams getting an easy run in the treble winning year just days after there run went belly up.

Sorry mate, you play good football but your not a great team. A good team yes, but not great.

A great team successfully defends their title, they do something in europe.

And while yes Henry did very well tonight, it was against a very poor leeds side, where was he when it mattered?

Mal your points about us needing to retain the title i agree with but the others that have called arsenal cheats and just blasted them is stupid and pathitic, when arsenal lost last year i gave credit to united same with the fa cap. But United fans hhave called as cheats and lucky and bboring and so on. A coin was thrown at gray lewin during th cup game (btw spurs fans and chelsea fans do give us credit)

Arsenal have been amazing the football brilliant and it would be nice if people gave creddit instead of childish insults and trying to undermine arsenals progress

At the end of the day its about football, Great football is what we want to watch. I want to win titles but since when was a teams skill simply down to money and results.

And henry has been excellent before this match. He scored a hat-trick against liverpool last week remember? and scored a great goal against many teams. the goal from outside the area a few weeks ago? He is the toop scorer in the premership and nomited for players player of the year

Henry is a very good player, but he is not a Pele or a George Best, so he is not, and due to his less attractive attributes, will never be the greatest player ever.

And although Arsenal have played very good attacking football they have managed to score just one goal in three games against Man Utd this season.

Unlike pele or best henry is not retired and is still quite young if he continnues at this rate he will br remembered as a great as gray said during the match "i have seen many things in my 25 years but nothing like him"

Well you've got to see it from our point of view.

Everyone has had to put up Wenger being blind to the antics of certain Arsenal players, yet getting on his high horse over what other teams do.

I remember him in his first or second season there, having a go at Sir Fergie for asking for extra time at the end of the season to ease fixture congestion, then him saying exactlly the same thing the next when they won it in 1998.

Yes they have been good this year, but that's what we've been trying to say, but you've took umbrage (sp?).

As much as I hate Liverpool, they were a great team, as they went out and did it consistently and won a large amount of trophies. Though it's good to see where they are now. I couldn't give praise to the scousers without a having a pop :D

I don't doubt that, but as I've said before, when has it done it when it mattered, really mattered. Thats what makes a great player...

Best V Benfica

Keane V Juventis

Ronaldo V Germany

I'm too tired to think of anymore! I'm off to bed.

Let's put it like this: when Arsenal have managed to dominate a decade as United did through the 90s, then I'll start to take them seriously as a 'great' team.

Or Liverpool in the 70's/80's

Great should be detirmined by the quality of football. Thats what footballs about.

If Arsenal play like that all the time then I dont care what they win that performance was lovely to watch and for me is what football is about. Not the politics, not the money, nnot the comparing stats and teams.

Great football is all that matters

One other point worth considering, is that Pele and Best played at a time when defenders could actually tackle an opponent. There is no way that Henry would have scored the goal he did against Liverpool faced with Norman Hunter, Nobby Stiles, Ron (Chopper) Harris etc. As a former defender myself It irks me to see perfectly good, solid, hard tackles called as fouls.

PS. I cannot recall any time that Best, Pele or any other player I mentioned ever deliberately dived. And I include Van Nis in my list of divers as well.

Then again, I'd very much doubt those defenders would be able to deal with Arsenal's way of attacking at this present moment in time either :)

From that statement, it is obvious that you never saw, Norman (bites yer leg) Hunter, Nobby Stiles or Ron (Chopper) Harris play. ;) :D

PS. United were rubbish today but I am still a happy bunny. Oldham Athletic beat Plymouth 4-1 and in the 3rd Div, Rochdale won whilst York & Carlisle lost.
