The connection died early this morning, with the modem-connection light on the STB not showing. It connected surprisingly quickly after a reboot and after different test I can confirm the upgrade :) |

is NTL having issues with there servers and this new bandwith? :dozey: |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I have checked my bandwidth speed with the website link posted afew pages back and it confirms that I have been upgraded to 750k. However, when downloading from Newsgroups, Du Meter is saying that I am still only getting about 60-65kb/s. This is strange because if I view webpages as well as downloading it goes up to 85-90 kb/s. Surely the DL speed from newsgroups should be quicker? I use Free Agent Newsreader and connect to Claranets servers. Any ideas? :) |

Hmm, the speed test suggests I've been upgraded. Odd though, web page loading is at a real crawl, and often times out. That's despite a reboot of the PC and STB. If this keeps up I'm not gonna be happy and it'll mean another phone call to ntl faults.

I got my upgrade but since then my DSL router has been a bit flakey... Ok it might be coincidental with the humid weather, but something strange going on. Tonight I've been trying to get onto this thread by clicking on the link at the bottom of here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/74/ However, 5 times in a row, when I clicked on the link, my DSL router froze, so half a dozen reboots later it seems to be working. what the frOOt is that all about !? |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I've been using proxies since a few hours after the upgrade, and i've noticed that less and less of them are useful! Today i'm back to using my normal Belfast cache, seems to be working ok. But i only changed because the other proxies were going really slowly. I think the network as a whole is suffering from the new speeds. I've just read threw the last few pages of this thread and a few people are complaining about slow speeds.
Just hold with it, they're probably having to shift a few things and twiddle a few dials. Belfast seems to be fixed now, so i'm sure your area will be too. In the mean time get the list of proxies off this site, and find ones that work best for you. |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I got the letter saying someone from NTL would be in touch to replace my set top box with the new Samsung one, the only problem is I already have the new Samsung box, I only joined NTL a few months back and got it from day 1 !!
Will the speed increase just happen for me, or do NTL think I have the old style STB and won't do me ? I suppose I'm asking is it automatically done if you have the Samsung box already ? The postcode checker has me down for August, but I'm still on 1mb currently. Thanks Ian |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Samsung and Pace boxes use the same file, so don't worry.
|
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
I currently have a pace box, which is not in use for tv (just bieng used as a rather large cable modem).
I asked NTL if i could swap to a modem but they said i would lose my email address!!!. I am just wondering if my pace box will get the faster speed or will i have to wait till I get a new samsung?? Has any one with a Pace box got 1.5 MB ??? Cheers |
Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Daft question I know, but....
I have a motorola Surfboard CM, will I need to re-set in order to get the new config file, of will NTL remote reboot when they have done the upgrade ? Also - can I check on the CM as to whether it has been changed, or just by using the speed checker. (My wife is often using the connection when I am home, so the speed test is not necessarily a reliable guide.) Oh - in Bracknell -RG12 - apparently going to be done in august... :D |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Worth pointing out that just because you have or haven't been done doesn't mean your entire area hasn't been done. Some areas are being done later because of capacity work or resegmentations. Hence the postcode checker, although this appears to be working on a random date principle at the moment.
No Paces or Samsungs will have 1.5Mb yet, incidentally. |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Looks like Leeds had been done. I had HUGE problems uploading in the early hours of the morning (various times between 4 and 9am) - browsing and downloading was fine but as soon as I started an upload my connection dropped (sorted by a reboot.) Just now I noticed the speed increase when I downloaded something. Maybe my upload problem was a side effect of the upgrade in progress? (It's fine now.)

Knowing you modem is easy stuff, look at it, if its silver and says NTL home, its an ambit, if not then they are all branded, look at the back, then see how to diagnose it on the website I shown you (Btw the reason why, is because the modems are capped to certain speeds, they shouldnt go above them, not by much at least) Im not taking sides here, but this IS a community, and openness is a step on joining it, be friendly and make friends, right? so your attitude doesnt suit, please, treat people with of tact, and you'll find a much better welcome. |

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades
Hi
I'm a nooby I am in swindon and the postcode checker says i am upgraded but i am still only on 1mb. could this be my problem about 1 week after i setup my broadband i decided that i didnt like my email address so i created a new one and deleted my old one which was my setting up email address. i know it said i couldnt delete that one but i did anyway and seeing as my newly created one worked i didnt see the problem with, however, when i click on tthe upgrade my spped section of ntls website, it tells me that my email address isnt the one associated with my modem, and when i put my original setup email address in it says it cannot find it. so, i thought i would just recreate it but ntl says the email address is already in use. Could this be why my modem hasnt increased in speed. Cobbler |

Swindon, as a few other users have stated, hasnt been upgraded yet.
