It has been wildly inaccurate for some people yes, but it looks like it may well be accurate for you!

Either way-it's coming, so be patient (I thought parts of Bedfordshire were being trialled for the upgrades early, but perhaps someone like BBKing can shed some more light on it?)

I'm in Leeds (Bromley) and am now up to 750k :D

The connection died early this morning, with the modem-connection light on the STB not showing. It connected surprisingly quickly after a reboot and after different test I can confirm the upgrade :)

Can't/won't happen-areas are franchise specific, if you can get ntl you can't get Telewest-simple. :)

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I have checked my bandwidth speed with the website link posted afew pages back and it confirms that I have been upgraded to 750k.

However, when downloading from Newsgroups, Du Meter is saying that I am still only getting about 60-65kb/s. This is strange because if I view webpages as well as downloading it goes up to 85-90 kb/s.

Surely the DL speed from newsgroups should be quicker? I use Free Agent Newsreader and connect to Claranets servers.

Any ideas?

:)

Try making more connections to newsgroups servers. Some are limited to 60KB/s per channel.

Anything off of the Luton DHCP as far as I know.

I will check tomorrow to give you a definate answer though.

and the reseg work will be done soon we hope we have provisional dates but these have changed and changed again so many times we just cannot give customers dates although believe me we understand how frustrating it is for you, its just well out of our hands.

Hmm, the speed test suggests I've been upgraded. Odd though, web page loading is at a real crawl, and often times out. That's despite a reboot of the PC and STB. If this keeps up I'm not gonna be happy and it'll mean another phone call to ntl faults.

Try changing your proxys.. Most of Belfast was using Manchester proxys coz theirs ground to a halt.

Finally got onto the Cable Forum !

I got my upgrade but since then my DSL router has been a bit flakey... Ok it might be coincidental with the humid weather, but something strange going on.

Tonight I've been trying to get onto this thread by clicking on the link at the bottom of here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/article/74/

However, 5 times in a row, when I clicked on the link, my DSL router froze, so half a dozen reboots later it seems to be working. what the frOOt is that all about !?

Hmm, upgrades... Hertfords done, needed to reboot the SACM.

speedtest at http://www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest.php gives the speed of Your Connection as:
1.39 mbps which equates to 178.49 Kb/s
For the connection you selected, the optimum speed is around: 178.56 Kb/s

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I've been using proxies since a few hours after the upgrade, and i've noticed that less and less of them are useful! Today i'm back to using my normal Belfast cache, seems to be working ok. But i only changed because the other proxies were going really slowly. I think the network as a whole is suffering from the new speeds. I've just read threw the last few pages of this thread and a few people are complaining about slow speeds.

Just hold with it, they're probably having to shift a few things and twiddle a few dials. Belfast seems to be fixed now, so i'm sure your area will be too. In the mean time get the list of proxies off this site, and find ones that work best for you.

I got the letter saying someone from NTL would be in touch to replace my set top box with the new Samsung one, the only problem is I already have the new Samsung box, I only joined NTL a few months back and got it from day 1 !!

Will the speed increase just happen for me, or do NTL think I have the old style STB and won't do me ?

I suppose I'm asking is it automatically done if you have the Samsung box already ?

The postcode checker has me down for August, but I'm still on 1mb currently.

Thanks

I currently have a pace box, which is not in use for tv (just bieng used as a rather large cable modem).

I asked NTL if i could swap to a modem but they said i would lose my email address!!!.

I am just wondering if my pace box will get the faster speed or will i have to wait till I get a new samsung??

Has any one with a Pace box got 1.5 MB ???

Cheers

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

Daft question I know, but....

I have a motorola Surfboard CM, will I need to re-set in order to get the new config file, of will NTL remote reboot when they have done the upgrade ?

Also - can I check on the CM as to whether it has been changed, or just by using the speed checker. (My wife is often using the connection when I am home, so the speed test is not necessarily a reliable guide.)

Oh - in Bracknell -RG12 - apparently going to be done in august... :D

Some areas are meant to be october as the network is not ready for the speed increase yet. I think parts of Clydebank are where it is down as october, but as you see from looking through the thread many areas have been upgraded already even though they say october and november. I am in Castlemilk and was done on monday.

Worth pointing out that just because you have or haven't been done doesn't mean your entire area hasn't been done. Some areas are being done later because of capacity work or resegmentations. Hence the postcode checker, although this appears to be working on a random date principle at the moment.

No Paces or Samsungs will have 1.5Mb yet, incidentally.

I dont suppose you know if all 1MB thru the STB will be done together do you? The checker for me says August , however I think that may be referring to 150/600/SACMs.

Or are you notified when a particular areas' Pace boxes have been swapped over to the Samsung ones ?

Cheers BBK

Looks like Leeds had been done. I had HUGE problems uploading in the early hours of the morning (various times between 4 and 9am) - browsing and downloading was fine but as soon as I started an upload my connection dropped (sorted by a reboot.) Just now I noticed the speed increase when I downloaded something. Maybe my upload problem was a side effect of the upgrade in progress? (It's fine now.)

Ooooh in that case, mind nipping into http://192.168.100.1 , username/password will be "root" , and seeing what it says ? It'll be around network access or something like that.

P.S. Why do I have to prove myself to you?
Are you chief adjudicator?
What do I care if you believe me?

What on earth would I gain by lying

My connection is between 1.47 mbps & 1.80 mbps. I don't know how long or if it will last but it's been like this all day.

The reason he thinks you are lying *COULD BE* because of the identical test results, I for one havent seen that done either, so do it again and paste them again, prove they werent fluke.

Oh, and what modem are you on? the 192.etc IP only works on certain modems, Otherwise check http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...ps/signal.html
to check how to do it.

That sounds daft. Why would you lose your email address!? Such things are not tied to the modem you use (STB or SACM).

Sounds more like they told you a porky to discourage you from going for a standalone modem.

Actually, earlier i got 1534kbps for every one of the tests..so its possible, though maybe not 1.9mb every single time..

I'm sorry mate but most of that went over my head.......

I don't know what modem or any of this IP stuff and I aint jumping through hoops to learn so I can satisfy people I don't even know

I posted the info as I though people may like to know, it's no bull and I do know what speed my connection is  working at.

Take it or leave it, it's happening and totally up to you what you believe...

Either way I don't mind :)

Anybody else going faster than they should?

Ill explain better, Look at your test results, they show each speed as exactly the same...
Quote:

1st 128K took 561 ms = 233640 Bytes/sec = approx 1944 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 561 ms = 233640 Bytes/sec = approx 1944 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 561 ms = 233640 Bytes/sec = approx 1944 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 561 ms = 233640 Bytes/sec = approx 1944 kbits/sec
And basically, thats rare, and all I asked is for you to do it again, if its conistantly like that you have nothing to hide. If not, it was a fluke (Im not suggesting you are lying btw)

Knowing you modem is easy stuff, look at it, if its silver and says NTL home, its an ambit, if not then they are all branded, look at the back, then see how to diagnose it on the website I shown you (Btw the reason why, is because the modems are capped to certain speeds, they shouldnt go above them, not by much at least)

Im not taking sides here, but this IS a community, and openness is a step on joining it, be friendly and make friends, right? so your attitude doesnt suit, please, treat people with of tact, and you'll find a much better welcome.

Hi

I'm a nooby

I am in swindon and the postcode checker says i am upgraded but i am still only on 1mb.
could this be my problem

about 1 week after i setup my broadband i decided that i didnt like my email address so i created a new one and deleted my old one which was my setting up email address. i know it said i couldnt delete that one but i did anyway and seeing as my newly created one worked i didnt see the problem with, however, when i click on tthe upgrade my spped section of ntls website, it tells me that my email address isnt the one associated with my modem, and when i put my original setup email address in it says it cannot find it. so, i thought i would just recreate it but ntl says the email address is already in use.
Could this be why my modem hasnt increased in speed.

Hello Cobbler, :welcome: to the site, hope you find it to be helpful and a nice place overall, now onto your problem.

Swindon, as a few other users have stated, hasnt been upgraded yet.

Im starting to think someone messed up big time on the postcode checker, come on NTL, first you take far to long to communicate about this upgrade, now our means of finding our time for upgrade is either out of date or scarily wrong, not good PR...

as far as the headend tech knows Luton has not been done, although areas served by the Luton DHCP may have been done.

meh how many people is that connection shared by? ;)

Anyway, for whoever thinks that getting the same results on robin walkers speed test is very rare, ive got the same results 3 times over yesterday + today.

Every time it was always 1534...:erm:

Then it seems that you are very rare! :dozey:

Actually I find it quite suprising that the NTL webserver(s) in fact have enough bandwidth to host a speedtest...

P.S. Robin Walker (the guy who made the speedtest) uses this same connection to read his emails ;)

I find the test from work comes up with very inconsistent speeds, guess thats the result of many sharing the pipe.
