We once worked out that, from the time it opened in 1982 to when it closed in 1997, each punter through the door cost us £10. We wasted that much through bad management and sheer stupidity. As far as we were concerned it was history we were making, not money. But if I'm ever skint I'll walk around Manchester asking everyone to give me my tenner back.

Just finished Dean Koontz, key to midnight which he originally wrote under the name of Leigh Nichols, although shorter than the original its still quite gripping and dramatic cold war guy gets girl love story'ish type of book, not his normal fare but very good.

Yeah, I'm with you there - his old school horror/thrillers were great. Whispers is the one with the writer, right?

Haven't bothered with most of his new stuff since about 'From the corner of his eye'.

What are you currently reading?

I didn’t see a post anywhere on the first page for this or when I searched, so I figured I would start a thread of my own!

What book are you currently reading? Or what was the most recent book that you have read? I myself have just started reading a book called Drylor The First Artifact. It is an Action/Fantasy book created by Ryan Tomasella. So far it is actually damn good, it is a story about a man that suffers amnesia and struggles to regain his memory. As his memory starts to come back to him he realizes that his brother is an evil S.o.b and he makes it his mission to stop him.

It seems like a fairly generic story line but the author makes it his own. There are tons of twists and turns in the story (mainly when the main character thinks he remembers something from his past he realizes that it was only an illusion that his brother wanted him to think was true.) I must say I am really impressed with this book, then again I read almost anything that involved sword and sorcery. Below is the cover of the book and what the back of the book reads.

http://almarsguides.com/Almar's%20Stuff/Drylor.jpg

When a man wakes up inside a cage that is being carried through
an underground city, he has no idea where he is or what has
happened to him. As Von, a victim of amnesia, is taken to a jail
cell to await his fate amongst elves, humans, dwarfs, gnomes, and
halflings, he is told he is a member of the Royal Guard of Genisus.
It is not long before he is transported to the palace where he
meets an impatient king who eventually returns him to his jail
cell while deciding his destiny.

As Von’s memory slowly returns, he discovers that he is the only
one who can protect Drylor—a world that abandoned him—
from its greatest evil, his own brother. Through his journey to the
truth, Von meets an unlikely group of friends who are willing
to sacrifice everything to help him stop his brother Scarlet
from annihilating the only world they have ever known.

As Von’s past becomes clear and reveals his future, he soon
realizes the only way he can end his brother’s heartless
massacres is to find him and kill him.

The book is for sale through all major online retailers, so you can buy a copy from Amazon, Barnes and Nobles or any other book retailers. If you're too lazy to look it up then here is a link to the barnes and nobles website where you can place an order:

Re: What are you reading?

I've just finished reading Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine.

Nothing in it is all that surprising, given capitalists' attitudes today, but believe me, it's one hell of an eye-opener. It certainly gives one a new perspective on the Iraq war, 9/11, the "War on Terror", Katrina and other crises. I wonder if the World Bank, the US Treasury and/or the International Monetary Fund are going to try shock therapy in Japan, and what'll happen if they do. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes in the countries where it was applied but the people have since recovered from the shock. But I doubt it.

Diving Into The Wreck - Kristine Kathryn Rusch

1st book in the Diving Universe series.

And no, it's not it's not an undersea adventure. :)

Boss loves to dive historical ships, derelict spacecraft found adrift in the blackness between the stars. Sometimes she salvages for money, but mostly she's an active historian. She wants to know about the past - to experience it firsthand. Once she's dived the ship, she'll either leave it for others to find or file a claim so that she can bring tourists to dive it as well. It's a good life for a tough loner, with more interest in artifacts than people.

Then one day, Boss finds the claim of a lifetime: an enormous spacecraft, incredibly old, and apparently Earth-made. It's impossible for something so old, built in the days before Faster Than Light travel, to have journeyed this far from Earth. It shouldn't be here. It can't be here. And yet, it is. Boss's curiosity is up, and she's determined to investigate. She hires a group of divers to explore the wreck with her, the best team she can assemble.

But some secrets are best kept hidden, and the past won't give up its treasures without exacting a price in blood. What Boss finds could rewrite history, cost lives, and start an intergalactic war.

Just finished "A Dance With Dragons" by George RR Martin, and so have read all five books so far in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series - approx 4,600 pages in just over five weeks, and it was worth it; never predictable and always enjoyable.

Only problem is that, going on the last book's delivery time, I've got six years to wait until the next one comes out....

Now reading "Hammered" by Elizabeth Bear, and "The Departure" by Neal Asher.

Just finished "A Storm of Swords" (book 3 in the Song of Ice and Fire series) absolutely loved it, had to re-read some sections thinking I'd misread it.

Really compelling.. About to start book 4!
