Well tonight is the absolute worse it has ever been here speed tests indicate that i am on 300k, pings are timing out and packet loss all over the place. just rung tech support and to be honest it was a waste of time and was politely told that it is going to be like this a lot more due to the 10mb upgrades. |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Well, i'm in Darlington, County Durham, and i am getting 10mb through my NTL:Home 100 no problem, except between the ours of 19:00 and 22:00, where it drops of to around 6mb :(
I contacted CS, and they said that their engineers are carrying out tests etc and everything should be sorted by the end of the year. Lets hope so |

Unless you are paying for 10Mbit 100% of the time you can't really complain too much. |

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Well engineer fitted me a cable modem. Took as while as he went to the box at the endof the road as the signal level was too high or something. Neway i now get a great speed of 7-800k and upload of 90k.
So need to get on the phone again :( Edit: Seems they registered me for the 1mb account when switching accoount. Upgraded online and now getting about 7.7mb atm |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Today I recieved my NTL "Xmas" card, for being a long standing premium member. The letter is really too much to write here . But contrary to some remarks on this forum, I would point you to the registration link to make an appointment to upgrade your STB/Modem where you can arrange the change over. I have 3M/bits STB, and they say the later Samsung box which was changed from Pace quite some time ago only supports up to 5M/bits.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Speeds seem to definitly be varying around the country. However, i have only got my max speed so far on usenet, with about 4 threads at once, then i can get 1250kb/s, most other places aren't dishing stuff out to me that fast, so you should post where you're trying to download from so others can compare.
If you know how, try to start a few downloads on a newsgroup, then you know for sure what the max your connection can go. Other FTP, Speed Tests, etc can be unaccurate, it's known for sure that newsgroups go your Max Conn speed so try that out. |
Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Im in bromley and have just had cable modem installed by an engineer as my set top box didnt support it . I have the 250 modem . I started to get 10mb for about 30 mins but now it has dropped to slower than when i had my 3mb connection is there anything i can be doing do get my connection speeds back up or is this due to the problems with upgrades in bromley area in general. im using the follwing router Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Broadband Router.

Too true :) After initial problems with my Ambit 120 rebooting I got a Ambit 250. Like everyone else my speeds have been fluctuating since the 10Mb upgrade. That is, until this morning when things improved remarkably. Got up at 5.30am to find my net was down, checked again before 6am and it was back up and performing better than ever.I checked and there was planned maintenance in my area so hopefully :o: whatever they did they can maintain it.PLEASE :o: I've been testing my connection on Usenet today using a few large experimental :o: ISOs and it's holding up well.:) |

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
I know this is the 10MB thread, but, in fact, there are now 4 tiers - up to 1MB, up to 2MB, up to 5MB (stb customers only) and up to 10MB. Two things which are strange about this:-
1) The cost of the 5MB tier is the same as that of the 10MB tier. 2) All upgrades from one tier to another are free of charge EXCEPT 5MB to 10MB, which is subject to a £50 upgrade fee. Anyone else think this is strange? |
